  • Just 25 minutes from Kansas City, the birthplace of Jesse James, the James Family Farm is a great day trip! See where he was buried and get a great view of what you can see if you come visit the James Farm & Museum! As the museum is doing maintenance and some renovations to the house you will get a RARE VIEW(possibly once in a lifetime view) of the original timber and bare bones of a section of the house! Don't miss the burn marks that are in the floor from where the Pinkertons tried to "smoke out the family" and ended up blowing off Jesse and Franks mother Zerelda. As no pictures are allowed inside the home you will just have to plan a visit to tour the part not being renovated!

We would love to have you visit our area! Liberty, Kearney, and St Joseph Missouri are all within about a 40 mile radius and all have neat history. The first daylight bank robbery in America was in Liberty (about 15 min from Kearney) The James Farm in Kearney, and about 25 min north on I35 is St. Joseph (The home of Jesse James where he was shot.) The Paddy House is also a neat place to visit while your in St. Joe! Come on up Texasmade!!!

@Seven is Enough - My Sevier line's farm was down from the James' one near Hallsville. It burned and that side of my family, Sevier Pope and Butts moved to Liberty, Clay, Missouri as well as Excelsior Springs and later on to Kansas City. Liberty certainly has some history. As well, there is a Rev. Jesse Jefferson James (not Frank and Jesse's father) born 1804-1856 Tennessee on my line. The home of my gr-grandmother Jennie L. BUTTS Pope was in Liberty, the whole town showed up. Services held at the school auditorium. We visited her quite often. Her yard was rather small by the 70s, big enough to have a garden but also enough to have a train go through it. No idea if it is still there. I'm sure it isn't the small town I remember but nice memories. Thanks for the post. I remember those "Birthplace of Frank & Jesse" signs on the way home from K.C. heading east along I think highway 50. Hope they are still there.

I visited the farm last week and I was very impressed with it. A lady called Mary gave me a tour outside the farm and she was very nice with me and too patient also because I just learning English (I am from Argentina) . I am very grateful with her. I enjoyed a lot that place and the entire history abput Jesse and Frank James. I visited also the Mt Olivet the same day. Weeks before I visited Hills Cemerery where Frank James' grave is amd last year I went to the Jail in Independence Mo. I'm planing to visit next week Jesse James'Home and Museum in St Joseph. I'm excited about it. Thanks for share this video. I will subscribe right now 😊

@@SevenisEnough l heard the man in the video wonder aloud, "Why did they call them samplers?" Perhaps in the era of mercantile & drygoods being few and far between, the womenfolk embroidered the ABC's& numerals for the little ones to learn before they ever started going to school.
This is my personal opinion, for my dad started me out at the age of three to start reading, learning my numbers vocally and sight and colors also.
Curious Sidenote: The date of Jesse's murder is an anniversary of sorts.Generally, moving picture stars Doris Day,Marlon Brando &Eddie Murphy are all born April 3rd.
Personally, l was born 80 years to the day of his murder. Also, my great grandfather on my Moms side took the oath to fight the bluebelly vandals, twenty years prior to Jesse's killing.
Have documented paper from Texas, which is where l'm from.
I apologize for being long winded, have a gift of gab kindly like my 'Ma. She was nicknamed Ratchet Jaw by a son of 'Ma's oldest friend.

I was at The James Farm& "The Murder House" in 1984, and it's great to see that both places have been well cared for & "Restored".
In 84 the Farm was a bit Run Down & the displays seen here weren't there yet.
It's a far different place now.....Quite A bit more "Touristy" but well cared for & that's the important part
    Great Job Missouri!

And my family the Milam's were actually the James family closest neighbor at the time and were actually friends with them. They even named their sons after them. The Milam's had a working dairy farm that they would bring the city kids out so they could see how a large farm ran. It was closed a long time ago! And we actually have some relic's that Zerelda gave the boys. The Milam's were southern sympathetic as well, that is all.

Called a sampler because it includes samples of all the stitches and embroidery techniques a young girl would need to know before she married and had to make, decorate and mend the home's clothes, linen, bedding etc.

Confused on the picture that Jesse James was hanging when shot. Saw a news report from a year ago that the original was stolen from his home in St. Joseph. So was that the original, or is it the one in this museum.

Ok, how is that the actual picture he was straightening when the actual picture is in the actual house that he was shot in? Lol, someone's telling stories. I just got done watching a video of the actual house that he was shot in that had the same picture. They moved the house in 1977. The actual pictue is sitting above a bullet hole from when he got shot.

I always have to laugh at the fictional story of Jesse's life. If you really want to know what happened, keep digging. It's out there. Check out Knights of the Golden Circle. Investigate the book Jesse James Was One of His Name's. Lots of info in there. Good luck. Nothing is ever as it seems.

No no no! the Youngers were played by the Carradine brothers not the Quaids, and you say you love this movie? the blasphemy! lol... the revisionist version of Cole Younger by David Carradine was what carried that movie, at the time of the Minnesota bank raid, actually Cole and Frank were the leaders, but the movie put Jesse and Cole at odds with each other being the leaders, however James Keach as Jesse James was really wooden, no depth or personality, the Quaids played the Miller brothers Clell and Ed, c'mon now Mr. Historian (lol, in the voice of Bob Younger)
