It’s great to see you back, Emmie. I hope you continue to enjoy reading as most of us do here. It’s satisfying to unbox packages. It’s like you’re opening up Christmas presents in advance.
This week I've just received a little kitten too and i have a dog also which i was so afraid that he will hurts her because he's one year old and she is one month only but it appears that they are good together, they play all the time and make me with my daughter have so much fun watching them playing. At least they put a smile on our faces during this hard times that we are facing here in Lebanon. 🐕❤ 🐈
Watching you unpack all of the Rilke volumes got ME emotional too!! I love seeing such open passion and appreciation for writing and authors and poetry :,) Also I’m jealous wth, I want someone to send me gorgeous early editions of my favorite works
Ahh I'm so glad you got my books Emma! This is the first time I've ever sent books to a youtuber so I was a little nervous that they would get lost or something, but they didn't and I'm so excited for you to read them! I hope you like them a lot :) Also, I believe Alexandra Bracken also wrote The Darkest Minds series, which I actually haven't read yet, funnily enough. (Evelyn)
So so so happy to hear the meeting with evie went well 😊 we have two crazy dogs and were nervous bringing home a kitten but had the same experience! She was fearless and the boys were more timid but they love each other now. She thinks she’s a dog and chases and plays with them. It’s wild but the dogs somehow know to be gentle with her? ❤ just a big spot of joy. Our kitty also loves outside time. She doesn’t go out at night but has free roam during the day. I know letting cats outside is controversial but she just loves it so much. Also I don’t know how we managed this but she doesn’t ever leave our yard so that has been a huge blessing. 🙌🏼 I bet calcifer+evie will be best friends by the time you get back.
you mentioned that calcifer struggled with the car journey - one of my cats had the same problem and cat sickness tablets work wonders. sometimes cats have motion sickness and you can have pills prescribed by a vet for them, i would definitely recommend this if he was salivating a lot on the journey, they're easily hidden in food. if it was just anxiety there's also medication for that, and also feliway (not sure if it has the same name in canada) is super helpful if you spray it on a blanket for them. hope this helps so that you and calcifer can travel more comfortably :)
This was a wonderful video, Emma. Your joy as you unboxed everything was contagious. I felt a little emotional as I saw you get emotional. You have built a great community here. I have been having a really tough month and this video was like a safe place I could retreat to!

War with the newts is by a czech author who actually used the word 'robot' for the first time (it comes from the word robota, not sure how to translate into english) in his other work. It's a play called R.U.R . He's one of our few czech authors who are translated into english and other languages :)

That edition of The Prophet with the handwritten notes almost made me cry, it's so beautiful! ❤ Also Rilke's notebook! The Ghibli postcards! Amazing. This video made me so happy.
I was gonna say … it’s pretty famously NOT a non-fiction book, although the author falsely claimed it was. It made me feel old to see someone who had never heard of it 😂
I started watching your video a year ago and I never really commented any of the video I've watched but seeing this video and reading the comments made me so emotional 🥲 this is adorable how you connect with your followers and how much they LOVE every video from you and I start getting it honestly you're literally adorable, smart and so caring ♥️ so congratulations for running such an amazing channel and I hope you'll be able to keep on doing this for as long as you want ! Lot of love from France 💗💗
Love the video as usual 💕 Raymond Queneau is a french author pretty famous in France. « Zazie dans le métro » is its most famous book. Enjoy this mountain of books!
Ive had a really bad mental health day today, so this video is really saving my day right now :) thank you Emma for never failing to make me smile and feel comforted
Your channel brings so many people joy,I love seeing you open up all these amazing things from amazing people.Hope you enjoy Iceland, safe travels! can't wait for the next vlog. 🥰
Queneau is well loved in my corner. He gave us Zazie, and she has a very special place in my heart. He is phenomenal, and one of my favourite French authors to date. Timeless! You'll love him.. I think :) 'The Flight of Icarus' is a good one. I would say Queneau is at least slightly more than a quarter of Borges', or equivalent to 6.5 of Borges' limbs. Queneau is quintessentially French, peppered with a pinch of Borges here and there. Borges stands alone :) Happy reading!
Tip for Calcifer travelling in the car. Here in Australia we have something called Feliway spray, which is a copy of a hormone that makes cats feel more safe, calm and secure in their environment. You can apply it to his carrier.
Hi Emma, Wow ! That's a lot of love from your viewers, such gorgeous, and thoughtful gift books. Yes, please do talk about your "panic attacks". I wake up in the middle of the night, almost daily with these unprovoked feelings. Have a safe trip, and I love all your cinematography in all your outdoor videos ! That chipmunk was so adorable !
I’m rereading the game of thrones books too i just started the second one my favourite characters are Sansa, bran, Robb, Jon, Arya, Rickon (i adore all of the stark kids) Tyrion, Jamie, Brienne, Davos and Theon
Hi Emma, about Raymond Queneau (prononcer Keno ;), à la française) you should read his book "la disparition". I suggest to read it in french because the "thing" which disappear in this book (don't want to spoil) is so specific in french language that i really don't know how it is translated in another language. thanks for making such pleasant videos. have a nice travel ! love. Sylvette
Emma, first of all I want to say how much I love your channel, your calm personality and especially how you manage to make every sentence imaginable sound poetic 🥰 Your love of Rilke made me want to start reading his works, and most importantly, it makes me so grateful to be able to speak/read German. And it makes me appreciate parts of our culture, which is something I struggle with sometimes. So thank you!! 💕 much love! P.S.: I wish you the best of luck on your German journey and hope that’s you’ll be able to read the original Rilke very soon! P.P.S.: I love your accent :)
I don't know if anyone has commented this yet, but George R. R. Martin wrote a post on his blog supposedly hinting that the next book is coming next November!
Thank you Michael! And yes I wish I age a friend like you too! Also, emmie, you're really lucky to havr them! ❤ May God bless you got making these vids! These make my day! ☺️
Soooo excited for you to have War with the Newts in your collection! Karel Čapek is one of the most valued (modern) classic Czech authors and has been nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature number of times but sadly never got it. He is a pioneer of sci-fi and speculative fiction and together with his brother (Josef Čapek, a famous artist) invented the term "robot". It comes from a play called R.U.R. which I LOVED and highly recommend. I'll be looking forward to watching you reading this book one day for your world lit challenge! Greetings from an avid subscriber from Prague!
Omg I'm so excited for you to read Toby Alone !!! As a French, I grew up reading this, and it is so good. The writing is so whimsical and beautiful, I think you'll love it. I didn't even know it had been translated and I never heard any non-french-speaking person read this so I am very interested to know how it can be seen in other countries. 😁 Hope you have a great time in Iceland! 😊
Oh my god, The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner! I've never seen anyone talk about this! This is an incredibly interesting book, but if you read it, I would highly recommend looking into the background of the author and how the work came to be, because it adds a layer to it that makes it even better! I had to read it for a British romanticism class in college and it was one of most interesting research projects I had to do.
38:15 omg Flann O'Brien is a blast. He's an Irish author who dwells a lot in surrealism, and The Third Policeman is one of his most well known surrealist works, possible behind At Swim-two-birds, a personal favorite of mine. His books are just so fun because they have absolutely *zero* rules
Emma, you need to read A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles!!! It is set in a hotel in Russia, I think you would really enjoy it!!! And The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society if you haven't read it!!!!!! The narrator's humour reminds me a lot of you!
Absolutely gorgeous books and gifts, and how kind those who gifted them! The meeting of Eevee and Calcifer has to rival that of Saints Peter and Paul!😁❤️
Fellow GOT Stan here!! My favs are probably Tyrion and Arya. Martin talked a little bit about the next book on his blog (worth checking out for updates), he says he has already written quite a bit of it but also said it will still be a long time before it's released since he's also working on other stuff.
Your instinctive reaction to the James Frey book asking "is this fiction ?" was so interesting -- that question was a huge controversy in the news at the time.
I was gonna say this too. I would honesty Google it before reading it because it was a huge scandal after Oprah featured it and the it came out that it was not really a non fiction. Might be a good book but don’t deceive your readers.
I remember studying "Exercices de style" by Raymond Queneau in school, which was fun, but I have never read a novel by him. "Zazie dans le métro" is maybe his best known title ? I would love to read more of his work for sure!
Your video helped me take advantage of the cozy fall vibes today. I have both my kitties snuggling me with the fireplace lit and we are watching your video. I love how all our bookish people are such kind souls. I will be sending you a book or two this holiday season! I also NEED to get my hands on that edition of the "Selected Poems by Emily Dickinson" because it is BEAUTIFUL! Much love
Emma, how amazing books and gifts! As a brazilian, i love to see a book of Machado de Assis on the haul. I also love to see Eevee and Calcifer get along well. Ciao! 💖
Wonderful vlog! I'm so excited you're going to explore more of the world! Discussion posts are the bane of my existence too, the class I'm taking now the professor is making us use a new site for discussion and I don't like :( but some discussion can be fun. George Shrinks! I remember that show! Years ago I tried to remember the name of it but couldn't ahh! Thank you again Emma for sharing your life with us, your courage and love gives me strength; my husband and I are moving soon and I'm anxious about it, but glad to know you and your vlogs will always be here. ❤
I'm so sorry to hear about the panic attacks! I wish I could give you a hug, I can only hope that they ease soon, and that Califer gives you lots of snuggles!!
Regarding A Million Little Pieces, it is not a memoir : the author later admitted having fabricated this story. It was a whole literary controversy back in 2006.
Wonderful video Emma! I had some books on my window sill for a couple of years and the pages became brown from facing the sun. Just wanted to warn you not to keep the books there for too long!❤
Under your influence, Emma, I recently used my birthday gift card to buy a new and prettier copy of my favorite book, "Watership Down" because my old edition has lost both its covers, lol. Beautiful to look at books are extremely underrated--thanks for showing me that again! :-) Good luck with that last course and have a wonderful week! 🙂 P.S. With the ongoing affinity to small forest animals, the connections to Snow White are growing!
Like Tania, I found tour channel during covid times and they gave me SO MUCH COMFORT. However I usually don’t comment. I’m now going to rectify that because it’s so precious to be recognized by you hahah
I just found The Third Policeman a few months ago and I've been waiting for the perfect time to read it! It sounds like my perfect novel tbh. Very excited to see what you think about it!
As for panic attacks, I haven't much experience so I can't offer any help beyond they seem to be more common in people thankful for what they have and frightened of losing some of it.
I really want you to read vampire books this year because I really want you to read it because it's a style of books that fascinates and captivates you? You should never miss it❤️And for that, would you please do a reading marathon?♡

Had to read justified sinner for a course on the devil in Scottish literature and hosted a discussion round on it. It’s honestly pretty fun and supposedly inspired by the monk (I know you’re reading/ interested in that as well)
BOOK REC FROM SWEDEN!! Idk if you’ve already decided on what to read from Sweden, but you absolutely HAVE to check out ”Don’t ever wipe tears without gloves ” by Jonas Gardell, achingly beautiful series about the aids-crisis in the 70/80s!! It’s def a modern swedish classic at this point! Love❤️
Emma, please, if you haven't already heard of it, check out Ice by Anna Kavan. I literally read the synopsis and some reviews, and it sounds so much like a book you'd enjoy. It's another book to add to your winter collection :)
Emma, I think you would love a book called 'The carpet people' by an English Author called Terry Pratchett, you may have heard of him. He was the amazing author of the fantasy world called 'The Discworld'. The carpet people is one of his young adult books. Please look him up. I would love to see your reactions to his writing. x Sending love from England x

It was neat to see how patient she was with him. I'm glad they got along.
That chipmunk was so adorable !
omg tanya's wrapping skills are on pointe!
I’m rereading the game of thrones books too i just started the second one my favourite characters are Sansa, bran, Robb, Jon, Arya, Rickon (i adore all of the stark kids) Tyrion, Jamie, Brienne, Davos and Theon
Thank you Michael! 🌟
Hi Emma, about Raymond Queneau (prononcer Keno ;), à la française) you should read his book "la disparition". I suggest to read it in french because the "thing" which disappear in this book (don't want to spoil) is so specific in french language that i really don't know how it is translated in another language. thanks for making such pleasant videos. have a nice travel ! love. Sylvette
Emma, first of all I want to say how much I love your channel, your calm personality and especially how you manage to make every sentence imaginable sound poetic 🥰
Your love of Rilke made me want to start reading his works, and most importantly, it makes me so grateful to be able to speak/read German.
Hope you have a great time in Iceland!
His books are just so fun because they have absolutely *zero* rules
i am a simple person: i see an emmie video, i click
Same
Emma, you need to read A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles!!!
I need a friend like Michael 😂 that was so nice of him :)
:’) aw! Dang reading comments like this is crazy-I literally just threw a bunch of books in a box and wrote an address 😫
Same😭😭😭
Fellow GOT Stan here!! My favs are probably Tyrion and Arya. Martin talked a little bit about the next book on his blog (worth checking out for updates), he says he has already written quite a bit of it but also said it will still be a long time before it's released since he's also working on other stuff.
Oh be careful about sunshine! When I put my books against the window the pages got sunburnt and orange
This video is.... SO PURE. Seriously gave me the energy to carry on ugh Emma, you are so sweet and genuine!!
I remember studying "Exercices de style" by Raymond Queneau in school, which was fun, but I have never read a novel by him. "Zazie dans le métro" is maybe his best known title ? I would love to read more of his work for sure!
soo many new books on my TBR now, also my favorite GoT characters are Daenerys, Ygritte and Arya. I also love Tyrion and Brienne
I didn't know Paprika was a book, I only know of the animated movie by the late Kon Satoshi. It's one of my favorite non-Ghibli films.
I wish I knew how to find such gorgeous editions and fun extras of my favorite authors! I wouldn’t even know where to begin
WOW micheal is a real one so many amazing copies
that was so sweet, it's so nice seeing you so happy and excited... i hope you're having a great time in Iceland!
I'm so sorry to hear about the panic attacks! I wish I could give you a hug, I can only hope that they ease soon, and that Califer gives you lots of snuggles!!
Oh! If you want something lovely and cosy to watch when you're having a difficult time, might I recommend Over the Garden Wall, it's incredible
Regarding A Million Little Pieces, it is not a memoir : the author later admitted having fabricated this story. It was a whole literary controversy back in 2006.
The interviews with Oprah are a must watch!
how's my favorite youtuber? it's so nice to have the opportunity to watch one of your videos again. i've been living on the streets.
yesss George Shrinks was my fave show as a kid too, I dunno if it wasn't shown much in Scotland but nobody ever knows what I'm on about!
For anyone’s wondering, Tanya’s Chanel is: Bookish Topics. She’s such lovely soul! ❤
Wonderful video Emma!
I had some books on my window sill for a couple of years and the pages became brown from facing the sun. Just wanted to warn you not to keep the books there for too long!❤
I'm currently reading ice palace by tarjei vesaas and I can't stop thinking about Emma the whole time
So happy you’re liking it!! Still one of my faves of the year❄️
@@emmiereads I literally hunted it down after all your recommendation. It's amazing so far🤗thank you Emma
🙂 P.S. With the ongoing affinity to small forest animals, the connections to Snow White are growing!
good going! happy bday💕
Thank you Michael! Can't wait to see Emma her reactions when she reads all of these ☺️
Me. Neither. !!! :)
I really want you to read vampire books this year because I really want you to read it because it's a style of books that fascinates and captivates you? You should never miss it❤️And for that, would you please do a reading marathon?♡
the squirrel is so cute 😭😭😭
I'm reading and watching Game of Thrones for the 1st time and I'm loving it!! Thank you for sharing your reread 🥰
I read Fevre Dream and loved the beginning but didn't like the rest of it 😅
I just read The Third Policeman this year, my boyfriend gave it to me as a birthday present. So excited to see what you think of it!
I love Blake Crouch, and I haven't read much of science fiction. Recursion was great! I hope you enjoy it. If you haven't read it, Dark Matter also by Blake Crouch is great too!
I've been studying all day and this video has just helped me to relax. Thank you so much!
Thank You Michael 😁
Hi Emma! Hope you're having a great time in Iceland 🤩. I discovered your channel not long ago and I absolutely love and admire you. Watching your videos give me peace. You seem like such a sweet and humble person, and you are so inspiring... 🥰 I wish I could meet you someday!
Had to read justified sinner for a course on the devil in Scottish literature and hosted a discussion round on it. It’s honestly pretty fun and supposedly inspired by the monk (I know you’re reading/ interested in that as well)
Love this video! Seeing your reaction to book gifts almost brought tears to my eyes! Hope you love
Iceland!
Loved the way Calcifer followed Spider-Man on the television screen. So sweet…😊
He’s obsessed with any game we play on it😂
@@emmiereads Forgot to wish you a great trip to Iceland. ❤
what a cutie
Michael, you're kind-of a badass.
Tonya (hope that's spelled right) your packages are so fun and beautiful!
Oh lord, we all need a Michael in our lives!😂
omgggggg Toby Alonr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved it when I first read it in middle school
Love❤️
michael's love language is definitely gift giving. THANK YOU, MICHAEL!
Classic Emma vlog - way to knock it out of the park Michael : )
Emma, please, if you haven't already heard of it, check out Ice by Anna Kavan. I literally read the synopsis and some reviews, and it sounds so much like a book you'd enjoy. It's another book to add to your winter collection :)
Emma, I think you would love a book called 'The carpet people' by an English Author called Terry Pratchett, you may have heard of him. He was the amazing author of the fantasy world called 'The Discworld'. The carpet people is one of his young adult books. Please look him up. I would love to see your reactions to his writing. x Sending love from England x
Michael coming thru!!!!❤
Gaaaah my schedule is so busy lately I never get to Emma's videos when they come out anymore 😢 they continue to keep me sane though and that's really all that matters
Also this is one of those videos that I really have to watch in private because the perpetual grin on my face while I'm watching it is so goofy nobody who saw it would ever take me seriously again.
When ur done Paprika, i would HIGHLY rec watching the animated movie ver. directed by Satoshi Kon. The animation is brilliant just like all his other films >:D
You make Sunday mornings the best with your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Soo if you closed your London PO box, do you have plans for another place to send you little treasures?
I actually found something I wanted to share with you from the desert I think you'd enjoy and appreciate. I'm glad I haven't sent it yet now knowing your PO box is closed.
I'm so excited to hear about Iceland!! I will get there one day. Another friend of mine just got back from there.
Oh my ❤️
I would like to send a book as well! I wasn’t able to find a PO Box :(
I sometimes read the ASOIAF series out loud to my roomate omg. I love Tyrion, Arya, Bran, and Sansa. Idk what it is about the stark kids but i wanna protec.
I looked up that Pizza Projekt place because I'm always looking for good pizza where I live. It doesn't exist in BC either, I checked their website and it looks like they only have one location and it's in London Ontario.
*cries when seeing the little squirrel stuffs peanuts into its mouth on emma's lap😭
Omg I love the ghibli post cards 🥺🥺🥺
