Thanks for your video. I've seen others put meat in a Kong and then freeze it, but my dog just isn't interested in that. Now I get it, starting with something that hard might make him lose interest and confidence right away. I've decided to go buy a jar of peanut butter today!
Think of Kongs as a puzzle. Start easy with lots of quick success for your dog. GRADUALLY, make it more challenging. Be sure he/she likes peanutbutter. (Not all dogs do!) Also, you can use cream cheese, wet dog food, anything that will stick inside. Let me know how it goes.
I have a new rescue dog that I'm desperately trying to keep entertained. She bores quickly and is really innovative at finding new "toys" around the house (e.g. remote control, laundry items, books, her bed ...) I love the ideas you have provided here to keep her interested in her Kong over time. Thank you! 😊
I still love listening to/watching your videos. Thank you so much for singing one of my favorites. You Always bring a smile to my face. I am so grateful that I’ve had the pleasure of having you in my life. I love you so much, lady! ❤ 🤗
Has anyone ever created an insert that you can stuff and put in the freezer then pull out and put in the kong. I would think you could make a dozen of them and only need 1 or 2 kongs.
This is a great video! I loved how you walked us through the different tiers of difficulty. I'm excited to try this with my dog and can now be mindful of how to approach stuffing the Kong :)
Hey Roger, that's great. Some dogs believe it or not do not like peanut butter! Spray cheese, baby food, cream cheese, and canned dog food all work great. Thanks for sharing.
Yes you can start with frozen kong, our Willow took to it right away. We soak her food in water, fill the kong with it, top with peanut butter then freeze it. SHE LOVES IT.
Great video. I always love learning more about becoming a better dog owner. I recently got two pups and they're great and tire eachother out. Thanks for the Kong advice.
I used to freeze peanut butter in two Kongs the night before I had to go to work. We had two young Labs that were otherwise very busy searching for things to destroy😃. They loved having them in the morning
Glad you found it helpful. Have you seen the video on Home Alone Training? th-cam.com/video/HabVbzKCSlI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=b362Eh3ccZpHdFlL You may find it helpful. Good luck.
After having problems with my dogs having kidney failure and liver problems, I would stick to dog food only to put in the Kong. You have some great ideas but having had problems, I will shy away from people food of any kind. Thanks so much for your ideas !
Makes perfect sense when you've had a dog with health issues. My lab can only eat Pork as a protein and no dog treats! So he gets the Kong stuffed with food he can have.
Thanks for this. My grandmother found a stray puppy in the park last weekend and we need to keep him preoccupied tomorrow while I’m working from home. Luckily, I have two kongs to use.
Great video thank you! My puppy just turned 8 weeks today and I been wanting a Kong, now I know how to try it, he’s small, he’s a beat but he’s smart! Had him 6 days and he can already sit, paw, leave it is hit or miss, started him crate training yesterday and leash training today, he doesn’t like the leash much yet but loves the crate to play in with some positive reinforcement! Ima try a Long to keep him busy as he’s hyper and a biter!
Congratulations on your puppy! What an exciting time. You can start to feed him from the Kong. Just put his dry food in it and let it fall out when he hits it or moves it. Have fun with it and your new puppy!
Thank you for this video. Very informative about the kongs. I bought the largest ones as I have great Pyrenees. Never knew about the easy to more difficult steps. Thank you.
My dog goes crazy over his stuffed frozen Kongs. He gets one after dinner and heaven help me if I don’t have one. Peanut butter is the best way to get things to stick in the Kong.
This is a great video. 😀 I have a puppy who's a troublemaker when I'm at work. And I know he gets bored because my elder dog is not very playful... she's a grump, really. Trying the Kong for the first time and this has been very helpful in knowing the stages of play.
This video is a game-changer! 🐾 So many creative stuffing ideas to keep my dog entertained and happy. Thanks, Discountpetcare, for these awesome tips. Can't wait to try them all out!
Hello, great video thanks! Which size would you give to a 6yr old 13kgs french bulldog? He is quite a strong chewer I would say. I cant decide between M or L. Thanks for your help🙏🏽

Deb, cream cheese works well, as does canned dog food - not the stew kind - the pate type dog food. Or meat baby food. Spray cheese is fun too and you don't need very much.

People may say yeah but my dog chews the house up, then even an outdoor kennel or shed to go in for shelter if it rains is better in an enclosed secure gated or fenced back garden. great video mamn, i hace a 2 month okd german sheppard, will the kongo size large be good for him? the label says from 10 to 30 kgs in weight, can i start with this?
If your puppy can play with the Kong, the larger size should work for him. Be sure to keep it easy for your puppy to build up the positive experience. If you make it too hard too soon, he'll give up. Good luck.
Hi Pia. So glad you enjoyed the video. it's been a while, but the kongs were large and maybe larger! Regardless, get one bigger than you think you need for your pooch!
Hello, thanks for the video - are these two sizes in the video L and XL? For an 8 week Vizsla puppy I'm thinking of going straight to the Kong Extreme XL (despite the Kong website recommending an L according to full grown weight), but love to hear your recommendation! Thanks! :)
If you don't mind buying more than one, you could start with a medium size Kong that your pup migh learn to enjoy easier than a super chewer one. Remember, make it easy for your puppy to get the food out etc to create a positive association with the toy. Good luck.
The color of the kong determines how soft or hard it is. Puppy Kongs tend to be small (obviously) and light blue or pink and soft. You can certainly start with these, but as the puppy grows be sure to adjust the size of the kong.

@@EverythingDog THanks for replying i put kibble in she lick it out. I put yogurt and she wont go really deep in. She give up. She like to chew certain food. And is it just 8 weeks so is that too young?
@@EverythingDog But she giving up too quick so maybe when she older then. I still dont know what to put in cause if i put kibble be too easy. And as said she wont go right in. :(
Thank you for this informative video it was good to know how to introduce my puppy to a Kong. I have a GSD which will obviously need a large Kong eventually but for now he is only three months old - which size should I get for him to start him off?
You could get a medium now knowing you'll need the larger one as the pup gets bigger. Or you could just buy the larger one now. Your puppy may not be able to pick it up, but he can learn to roll it around. Have fun.
Laura, there is no set time, it really depends on your dog's ability to work for food. If he's easily frustrated introduce the peanutbutter (ore cream cheese) gradually. Once he's a champ, freeze them and/or put in other boxes. Have fun with it.
My puppy has been having a hard time eating his hard food once he came but at breeders house he ate it fine, do you think using a kong will help him to eat more? If i add peanut butter or something? I want him on a schedule also but he never eats when I put the food out. So i have been letting him approach his food whenever (which is not good)
Shanttal, depending on the age of your puppy, you'll have to be careful what you "stuff" it with. You don't want to upset the pup's tummy. Wet dog food works, whipped cream cheese used lightly. A kong adds a level of challenge because we are asking the dog/puppy to use his brain to solve the puzzle. I would leave the food availabel to the puppy for 15-20 mintes at the longest, then pick it up until the next feeding. Dogs will not starve themselves.
My dog is the same way. I let his hard food soak in water to get soft. I let it soak in a big mixing bowl. Then I drain it and smash it up with a potato smasher. Hard food makes my dog throw up. He's been doing fine with his food being soaked in water and made soft. I keep it in a big container or Ziploc bag in the fridge.
This will depend on your individual dog's personality. I always separate our dogs just so each dog can enoy their Kong without worry of competition and then I know how much each dog has eaten. Good for you for feeding out of a kong.
Love how your dog is watching you make them 😂
If you watch closer, he is drooling so much 🤤

Yes it can. If the dog doesn't clean it all out we also use a bottle brush to scrub as needed.
How do you handle Kong feeding if you have 2 dogs? Do they need to be separated or do you find if they each have their own that they focus on theirs?
This will depend on your individual dog's personality. I always separate our dogs just so each dog can enoy their Kong without worry of competition and then I know how much each dog has eaten. Good for you for feeding out of a kong.
