Anthony Hopkins has real talent. Too many actors/actresses are branded as talented these days when all they are really capable of is playing themselves. Anthony becomes the character that he's portraying and is so believable that quite often I forget that it's actually him. I've loved his films since I was very young and his voice is so eloquent. Thank you Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Is it bad that I like when actors play themselves? (The Rock, for example). I know that actors who play a character in each movie, like Leo and Meryl are on a completely different level, but I don’t mind when actors are fun to watch just being themselves in every movie

I'm glad you recognized his ingenious performance as Dr. Robert Ford. Many people don't give Anthony Hopkins enough credit for that role, they don't believe the show's success is mainly attributed to him, but it most certainly is. No other actor can play a highly intelligent character who's both reserved and intimidating more convincingly.
Couldn´t agree more, including that magical mix between complexity , initial repulsion, charisma and even unexpected empathy form us the audience in the ending scene of the fisrt season´s finale.

Fun fact: Hopkins' total screen time in The Silence of the Lambs, is only 24 minutes. He won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and the movie itself had more than 60 awards and 50 nominations. What a legend! Him and Denzel Washington are my all time favorite actors
He certainly deserves an Oscar for The Father, which means he probably won't win it. The Academy doesn't seem to be too concerned with rewarding the true "best" anymore. The Father is certainly in the running for Hopkins' best performance ever, which is really saying something.
His portrayal of the doctor in the Elephant Man was a big reason he was offered the part in Silence of the Lambs, even though the 2 doctors are quite different from each other!
He truly was something else in Silence of the Lambs. He wanted Hanibal to come across as "a tarantula in a bottle", and he actually pulled it off. Remarkable actor.

Hannibal Lecter is the kind of person I would never like to run into a dark alley. Hopkins performance as the highly-educated cannibal is indeed legendary and impossible to be represented by another actor. Hannibal Lecter is Anthony Hopkins as the Joker is Heath Ledger.
One of my favourites is A Bridge Too Far as the paratroop regiment Colonel - very quintessentially English and understated ... but flashes of genius acting. His close-ups are where his craft shines through.
The professional acumen of the acclaimed actor is the ability to be absorbed into character, portray all that the script, producer, scene, music score and director wish and ....extract himself or herself completely from the character before being typecast. That is a surreal skill and ability and transcends taught method acting.
C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest theologians in the last 200 years as well. His book, "A Grief Observed", is his heartbreaking journal of his deep grief over losing his beloved wife. It's all the more poignant as the same disease took his mother from him when he was a boy. That grief made him an atheist until he attended Oxford and met his mentor and spiritual guide, JRR Tolkien.
