  • This is the first video in a series I plan to do called "Fish I'll Never Buy Again". In this video I'll talk about why I'll never buy another Chinese Algae Eater (C.A.E.) Keep in mind that just because I'll never buy another one doesn't mean they are bad fish. These make great tank cleaners and are fantastic aufwuchs grazers.

Had 4 tanks and one Chinese algae eater that was rotated monthly to a different tank, all the tanks had a shared filter system so the water was the same across all the tanks. If we had an algae spike in one he was caught and sent to work, he left my angels alone with the exception of running into them if he was in a hurry. People said it was stressful to do that to it but oddly this thing would swim into the net and let you catch it, almost like it knew it was going to get a big meal hehe.

I do NOT blame you. These big suckers are quite agressive when not fed protein. Great series, Dan, and I am glad that someone has finally decided to do something like this 😁

I like your idea of periodically doing a video on fish you'd never buy again. Looking forward to future videos!

Thank You, Dan, I'll steer clear of those. I'm having much better success with a trio of rubber lips I'd purchased a few months ago thanks to your vids & comments. My method of adding 2-3 Northfin kelp wafers after lights out in my aquariums is doing the trick. Thank You so much Dan; all your educational and informative vids have truly helped me succeed. Next, GOURAMI HABITAT...SOMEDAY.

Is is probably one of the prettiest tank I've seen, those tetras just give so much contract with the plants, all your tanks are amazing

Am very much with you on this one. Don't have any plans to own one of these again. Love the idea for the video series! Can't wait to see more episodes!

For me its tiger barbs. Unless you have a large school of them, they will bully one another until one rules them all.

I have a golden algae eater that has killed a: Rainbow Shark, Other smaller Golden Algae Eaters, two Roseline Sharks and a variety of other fish. It took me a long time to realize who was killing my fish as I "never" suspected my Algae Eater was a "Serial Killer". No joking. Thanks for posting this.

To other people: Don't blame the fish. Is your responsibility to study carefully before buying one. Once bought it, is your responsibility to take care of it and make sure it well fed until it dies. Period.

Thanks man. This was very informative. I've been trying to narrow down a good algae eater for our little 2.5 gallon tank and I think this just saved me a little bit of trouble, because this is usually the first fish most people think of for the job. Thumbs up

Excellent video. I personally think he looks kinda cool. I would like to see more videos of fish you'll never buy again. Maybe you'll save me and other viewers from making bad purchases in the future. Also, that tank looks really nice. Those red tetras are very pretty.

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm doing research on possibly making a video for things people dont think about when getting into the hobby and I think addressing algae eaters and plecos diet and size. Very good information.
