  • ‪@Copwatchtv‬ obtained body and dash camera footage of the Acworth Police Department pulling over a Dodge Charger that was fully outfitted with lights on a traffic stop.
The person inside was Jerardson Mackey. The Acworth Police Chief saw the Charger using it's lights in traffic and the Chief of Police called dispatch for a traffic stop. The marked on-duty officer made a traffic stop of Mackey. He was charged with felony impersonating an officer after an investigation.
    His trial is pending.

Like in the video here, he may have only used it to allow himself to pull into traffic. Maybe to run a stop sign here and there. The only reason he got caught this time was because an officer happened to see it.

He stopped at the QuikTrip on 41 which is not far from where he's at at the moment and got really pissed off because the woman wouldn't give him a free soda he went on a several minute rant about him being a public servant
Needless to say he didn't get his free drinks and he also gives any security officer hell when he sees them.

He had a permit for the lights. The funeral escort business is a lucrative business that will undoubtedly have these issues until laws are changed to require them to be clearly marked. The problem is that these escort businesses want to appear authoritative and professional which is exactly what police want to project. To be clear, funeral escorts have zero LE power, but are authorized under law to operate flashing lights while escorting funeral traffic. This is to promote safety by being visible just like a car with flashing amber lights in front of and behind a wide load. Obviously no one should be under the impression that they're police officers but security guys also operate in this arena of "rent-a-cop". Not to disparage their trade, they serve a legitimate function.

States can fix this problem easily, by mandating the following:
All vehicles used by these companies (for escorts or whatever) be painted “school bus yellow “ and the only color strobing lights they can use on the vehicles is green and amber.
The uniform shirt must be bright pink, or they must wear a HiVis pink vest (or coat) at all times while working.
Legitimate companies would follow these rules and it would scare away the want-a-be cops because nobody would mistake them for police if they were dressed in pink and driving a “school bus yellow” vehicle

I think there needs to be a law that explicitly forbids outfit (and behavior) that for a normal citizen would appear to be law enforcement. "This is my uniform. Nothing on here says police". That's bullcrap. It is obviously meant to resemble a police uniform. The large symbol on the patch looks official and would make any writing saying "police" very small if it was on there. I believe that is intentional. And what's with the badge he flashed? I'd wish the officer on the scene would ask him at the end of the traffic stop "now, tell me what the patch on my clothing says". I bet he couldn't because he'd just assume it said police, which is exactly why you can't just say that a uniform is permissible because the word "police" is not there.
I don't understand why amber and red are covered by the same law section. Amber just tells me to give a vehicle a bit more attention. Red would make me move out of the way.
