  • An in-box review of Corel's 1:98 scale wooden ship HMS Victory kit.
The kit's produced as a faithful reproduction of Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. #corel, #hmsvictory, #woodenships, #scale

I have the Billings boats HMS Victory and have just started building the Caldercraft Victory so always find it fascinating to see the difference between manufacturers kits. The Corel kit looks to be of a decent quality.

Great in depth Unboxing review of this kit John. Like yourself I haven't yet built a Corel kit but I do have their "Hms Bellona" kit in my stash. Like your Victory kit, the wood in my Bellona kit is very good. It's a pity about your Victory's Stern details being made from "pressed wood" rather than cnc cut or photo etch, the Bellona kit has photo etch for the Stern and quarter gallery details. I was suprised you said the detailed parts weren't great within the kit, as I thought the ones within the Bellona kit were very good, maybe something to do with the year of release between the 2 kits ? Looking forward to maybe an update on your build once you start.
    All the best
    Rob.

Cheers Rob. Watching it back, this review is full of errors. In retrospect, I should have opened the fittings tray. What I mean is… the crest, lanterns and gun ports would be better nowadays. Not vague renditions plated gold but possibly CNC milled and/or 3D printed. The Bellona looks like a wonderful kit, too.
      Kind regards.

Peter, on page 22 of the instruction booklet, it mentions the “list number” is a catalogue number for obtaining parts possibly damaged by the modeller. Using the Google translate camera function, it translates as “ the model catalogue number for the purchase of any parts damaged during manufacture”.
