If you have any doubts about your bicarb yellowing because it has anti-caking agents just add a good squirt of a generic white acrylic paint into the mix and that prevents it yellowing.
Looks great! Also recommend for starting is visiting a craft store. Ones around here in TX has little discs or rectangles of MDF wood for less than $1.
Love the terrain video! More would be appreciated! I’m also planning on basing my Imperial Guard with winter bases going for a sort of Bastogne look so this tutorial was very helpful!
Great video, some simple tricks with great looking results! Would love to see some more videos like this for other sorts of climates - e.g. North Africa or the jungles of Southeast Asia and the Pacific :)
Considering how cheap this stuff is to mix up, I've started to use it on all sorts of things again. Just based an entire German army with it, after all! It goes nice and gritty once it's dried, too - it starts to look more like powder snow. I should try mixing in a little gloss varnish some time, see how that pans out!
Looks really nice. Since you are not really using baking but household cleaning soda, there are much larger packet sizes available as well for really a chump change. Something like 1,50 for half a kilo. My wife uses it for cleaning pots for example.
I JUST finished painting the minis of my Collection of cmon Nights Watch and was wondering how to do the bases, youre a champ Sonic 💪 (between you and terraintutor im golden 🤓 )
Simple and effective! I've thought about winter basing an army but never found a technique that looked quite right - this looks great! Would varnish add anything to the appearance or durability of the base, or do you find it unnecessary?
I've experimented with adding a little matt or gloss varnish into the mix. It doesn't take much, but you can quite significantly change the look of the dried product. Matt will make it look way more dry than you'd think, like very fresh powder, whereas gloss does what you'd think - mixing gloss into a slightly thinner paste will give you a wet, sludgy looking melting effect.

This is the way
Great looking Winter terrain! I never thought of the baking soda for snow but it looks very realistic. Thanks for sharing this,

Ooh, good shout!
Love the artillery shattered tree trunk. Very evocative of the Battle of the Bulge.
I should have done a few more at once on some smaller bases!

I would love to see a video like this but with thick mud instead of snow something that looks like no mans land or would bog down vehicles
Now is the winter of our discontent!
Made summer by the glorious sun of York!

Awesome video! Great terrain ideas. Would love to see more. Thanks for another brilliant and inspirational guide.
Very interesting, more terrain construction videos would definitely be appreciated
Just might have to bookmark this for when I do some Teutonic knights with the upcoming Victrix kits
I like that! I've always used a combo of Woodland Scenic's Flex Paste and snow flock, but honestly yours looks better!

Try using heather or privet for your sticks, they have a good scale for figures.
This was great to see and learn. ALso makes me excited for the new BA winter teams ;)

Pretzels!
Huh. They kinda do look like pretzel sticks!
Never eat yellow bicarbonate of soda
Why did you have so many german products and where did you get them?
Well, I live in Germany, so... 😅 I bought them in the stores around me like Müller.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio OK that explains much🤣
Once again, going outside proves you dont need to spend money to make good terrain
