One thing to keep in mind is that unique harbours like the Cothon all count as different harbours, meaning you can have one of each per territory. It can be quite silly going as the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and the Norsemen because then you have so many harbours littered throughout your coastline, all of which gain adjacency bonuses from each other. Then add in the Dutch building that gives +20 gold per harbour and you'll be rolling in so much gold.

They are much more effective in the Early Modern era onwards. Not so much for pitched naval battles, but because the ships can fire in during land battles. That extra fire support makes a massive impact. Even more so when you get battleships and aircraft carriers which can assist battles from very long ranges.

As for the "you can win basically any battle by having more units than your opponent" while true, I had a fight with a single Spearman, mine, against two archers and I think a horse scout. My Spearman killed an archer, the horseman, and wounded the last archer before he died.

Even with potatoes tips, battles feel a bit all over the pace for me. In one game I got attacked by a much bigger army and some save scumming got me widely different results. Even when doing the same basic moves with the same units, small things and RNG make a huge difference. Tbh, I actually don't really like the combat in this game. Sure, it is great that there are way more concepts to use then for example in civ but it feels not very streamlined into a consistent gameplay where you win because you did the correct things. Also, the AI is quite inconsistent in their performance in my experience.
Edit: especially when multiple units are low on health one roll of the dice makes huge differences between winning and loosing.

What really irks me is how weak the crossbowmen and gunners feel in Medieval and Early Modern compared to Archers when it comes to attacking ranged. With how vision works on steep maps, it's difficult to be able to effectively position my ranged units to actually hit enemies without having to resort being at melee range because they "cant see the enemy". Like FFS either shoot them or i'm going to delete you.

    • @Author_Paluthor

Archers fire at an arc over obstacles and your own units. Crossbows and firearms do not. I don't know about crossbows irl (I would guess they can arc fire them), but you cannot shoot through your own troops with firearms. Firing at targets who are above you is difficult with firearms, since the target can simply drop down and the shooter can not see or possibly hit the target.

Use district adjacentcy : makers, research quarters 70 %; the rest into food, common, trade, garrisons. Build all relevant infrastructure as soon as possible. I sat on 3 cities 3 outposts till about turn 200 then I expanded into some neutral territory. Egypt, egypt, Khmer, Joseon?, siamese, Egypt. Production & science for easy win. Tip : dont over expand.

Took out green Huns they are now my vassal, pink is attacking me with Celts, the war for the first city they attacked has gone on for over 5 turns, I am just pushing in more and more troops. My third pick was Khmer and there war elephant will be joining the fight for the city.
Production in my cities are crazy the Khmer district is giving 20 -40 production and if you have two attached outpost to a city that 60 - 120 production in each city.

I think it could be a genuine strat to expand fast in the early game to 4 cities, getting 4 production ques aswell as the yields from 4 cities. yes you will go into the negative for influence but just switch to a science/influnce culture in the medieval era, then youll soon get the city cap techs and you will start snowballing very quickly.

human kind has a bunch of bugs, and issues. for one I played and entire game and throughout the entire world there was no oil at all. but I really think that it could be good. reminds me of civ V's Launch which was absolutely terrible but turned out into a really solid game.

what even is an "emblematic district"? This is why the wiki is useless, stuff like this does not get explained. Or what are "calm cities"? and how can a city change its status?

If you want to play a peaceful city builder who's looking for a science victory with an occasional skirmish this is your game. If you want to win by military domination go play the competition. This game clearly does not want you to play that way. You'll end up fighting every mechanic to do so and surrendering to your vanquished enemies even though you're surrounding their last city with superior armies.

Hunnic Horde is literally broken and need to be patched honestly. More than that, they seem to have some kind of hidden stat that causes them to almost always take the low end damage when you attack them, and every fight ends up taking forever since they don't hit very hard. So you get into a fight, spend all your attacks taking one down to half strength (unless you have pikemen specifically to counter them), then wait 5 minutes for the rotating door of Huns to stop killing you. It's not fun in any way.
