It’s great to hear the technical challenges a film studios face when converting movies to 4k. As customers we often overlook it and do not appreciate the effort. It is challenging work to restore a movie.
I recently watched “Looking For Mr. Goodbar” man this has to be one of the best first time watches for me this year. Not sure if you picked that one up. But would like to see your thoughts on the film and restoration. I thought it looked great. There is a replacement disc being issued for the Dolby Vision issue but that’s it.
Out of all of those I'd have to get the first Nightmare on Elm Street on 4k. I remember you showing it and those dark blue dream scenes were wonderful 👍. Thanks Chase.
@LanceThigpen honestly I had never really paid it that close of attention that it indicated freddy coming in dreams until this 4k and then I realized it was only happening at that time
Great list! My ordering would be a little different, but I think my only real discrepancies would be caused by releases I haven’t been able to check out yet.
@ahaubert80 thanks man! I am going to re-evaluate them all before the final list of the year once I get a few more in my hands so there may be some shifting in the final yearly rankings- especially when those from the first half of the year join the fray
Loved The Keep. Only thing keeping it from being high on my list would be the audio. I know they didn't have good source material and they could only do so much with it. But it had some shortcomings. I do agree that it shouldn't look that good considering it being a low budget horror movie. Very impressive.
Hey! Forgotten that The Thing has to be number one on every list? Even best RomCom… ok. Joking! Great list. I have not seen many but own all but three. So I have to catch up. Looking 🎉 to the full year list! Cheers!
Totally agree about the Friday the 13th remake. I love it. Congo, I am happy to have as well. Demolition Man is not being delivered till after Christmas
Just to keep your targets up to date, I sent “The Big Chill”, “Scanners” and “My Own Private Idaho” from your list. So you can remove them from your Criterion list. I was surprised by some of your choices. Your love of film as art shows through! That last target i sent you is HEAVY! Merry Christmas!
@LanceThigpen damn my friend you are too kind!!! That is an excellent trio of films!!! I am very excited to have those in my collection!!! I really do love all kinds of movies for different reasons and appreciate them in different ways! I am looking forward to starting my "Chase's Criterion Closet Critiques" where I watch, rank, and review the Criterion closet picks from some of my favorite episodes (maybe Gina Gershon, John Waters, etc) ...that will push us into some new film discussions here and get me to watch some others I love and find some new films outside of my comfort zone!
I didn't think that highly of Galaxy Quest. It does blow away the old DVD. So great upgrade. For for 4K standards, Paramount dropped the ball. It was a weak outing for them.
@@AVAPopCultureI can’t speak on the transfer for this but I will say paramount transfer ain’t as good as other studios. Ghost for example. Either way I just enjoy the movie and don’t focus too much on the transfer.
@@AVAPopCulture It didn't have the crispness that you come to expect from 4K IMO. Paramount is hit and miss with their 4Ks. I just think we are spoiled by other titles out there and expect everything to look like that. I'm not saying it was bad. Just expected more. But again miles ahead of the crappy DVD I've had for years. LOL. The audio track made up for it though.

it is very challenging and a labor of love for a lot of the people that do it so, I dont mind reminding everyone of that sometimes ;)
Great best of! Love Body Double!
@@hotguy1269 yeah it is is great one!! And thank you
Great list! Quite a few I do not have yet and will pick up eventually.
Great list Chase, you could probably have your top 10 in any order without any arguments... they're all fantastic releases
@davek3373 yeah I feel like depending on when I watch them and what Ia looking at specifically, it is splitting hairs
Great list chase btw i want to wish you a happy holidays. Before christmas gets here. I cant believe how fast this year has gone

yeah those scenes really popped! that is a release that is a must own!
So happy with that transfer, though I had not noticed that the blue scenes indicate dreams as you noted on your first review of it.

Lol I do love The Thing but it can't make every list even if it is obviously a great rom com 😂😂😂😂 jk...
I'm working on that full year list!
I have Caligula fro Drafthouse. Could not see paying that much for Umbrella version. I haven't watched yet.
@@screamingeekmedia it is kind of overkill but absolutely incredible
I agree. And, as Chase said, the new cut really is quite good.
@@LanceThigpen Hoping to watch next weekend. Have grandkids at moment. Don't think it would go over well to watch it now. LOL
Nice, ToT and TrT made the list! 🎃🎸🔥
