I bought my AB3 almost 2 months ago I was happy and excited to buy my first hunting rifle. So I took my new out to my nearby gun range to put some rounds in it to see how well the gun worked. Well let's just say the gun didn't perform as well as I hoped. The gun fired and cycled well through the first 15 rounds without any issues. However after that the guns quality went downhill as after the 16th round the gun started having issues with the bolt not going into battery after extracting the spend round and loading in the new round in. So after that I went through process of troubleshooting to find out the issues. Come to find out it was the hook that held in the bolt to gun had sheared off. So I called up Browning and told them the issue so I packed up the gun and took it back to Cabelas where I bought the gun and they sent it back to Browning. 2 months later I'm still waiting for the gun. Thanks for the informative video! I don't currently have cycling problems on my 9.3x62, but I'm planning on cutting bulged barrel end by 100mm and was worried how it was going to effect the cycling.
@ketse89 you will loose speed. For every 25mm shortened you will loose about 7.6 meters per second. Sounds pretty cool though. I would be curious to see muzzle velocity data before and after to confirm my math. Good luck man. Thanks for communicating
Beautiful rifle ..I’m a big fan of bars and have been shooting safaris from 2506 to 338 win ....with hand loads I always get just under 3/4” groups ...it’s a challenge but it can do it Browning the best there is !
This is one of the most accurate rifles I have owned. I can shoot 3 a shot group at 100 yards and cover them with a nickle. Once it heats up shots 4 and 5 are all over the board. I am a high percentage shooter and seldom take a second shot as it is not necessary, but have on a rare occasion or two, thru everything I had at shit and a waste of ammo. Heat of the battle. Thx for the comment and I love my MK3 Hells Canyon speed for sure. Happy huntin
OOOh Paul, I'm so trhankful for this super-video, because this is not explained in the instruction manual, although it is so important for the handloading peple. With your demonstration they are able to adjust their BAR MK3 without driving to the gunsmith and pay for a repair or conversion that could be managed by oneself. Thanks a lot and please speak a little bit slower for the not-native-english-speaking observers . Spometimes it's hard to follow and it is so IMPORTANT !!
Good video 👍 Only thing that I would be good is removing the gas piston rod and using some Emery cloth to polish it Then oil resemble and then adjust the gas block. Thanks 👍 Be safe and shoot straight.
Myself and all my hunting buddies run mk3, i have a 270 wsm, one has a 300 wsm, one has a 7mm, and one a 270, all have zero issues feeding or cycling, as far as accuracy also not to bad some ammo better then others, these are hunting rifles not competition rifles, any rifle grouping 1 1/2 at 100 is gonna be fine anything better is a bonus, sweet rifle hope you got a beauty buck!
Browning is like John Deer they do not want you to know your own equipment or work on your own equipment. Mine will not lock open on last shot with hand loads using w760. Browning told me not to touch the gas block it could kill me.. Just so you know... Seems to me they would put that in their manual! Not happy with Browning also the screw for the shoulder sling screws right into the gas black how does that make any sense? If it gets loose which mine has it changes cycling.
Merci beaucoup Paul! Thanks a lot Paul! It's true that I also don't understand the damn reason there is no video professional enough to explain how to troubleshoot minor issues and how to clean semi-automatic rifles, especially for the Browning Bar series. I contacted Browning to ask them if they can make a video on the Internet, but after a "polite" response, there is nothing left… .. what is the [….] , Thanks again for helping us how to deal with such a situation! Have a good day!
Nice. Just got mine in stainless. Beautiful rifle. Gorgeous. Imagine my horror when it won’t eject any casing. Didn’t matter. It’s a single shot rifle for now. Pissed!!! Hope this helps me or I now have $2,000 of wall art.
Dear Paul, I hope everything is fine with you there. I'm here again again asking you for enlightenment... I'm not capable anymore ( I did in the past and was ok ) to take off lug in the front as you did at 1:57 , I just want cleaning inside the forearm. The screw has been loosened for a while but it does not come out and turns idle and it does not tighten anymore !!?? all the best ! thanks in advance for your kind attention ! GS
How about that set screw? It looks like a small hole with a round bevel around it, and painted red.... there is no way to remove it that I can see. Oh, nevermind, it was covered with paint. It is a T8. Great video.
Good info, whether I encounter this on my new BAR Mk 3, which I pick up in January, I'll keep a notepad with it to keep tips and observations. It was a massive pain to track down a .308, but it's now mine and the next problem will be finding ammo...what is going on, everything is being bought up?
Yeah I had hell of a time tracking one down in Springfield 30-06. a lot of people are in a panic with the Democrats taking back over so when this happens there's usually a huge push on ammunition and primers and such .I myself can't find any primers. It's tuff out there. Good luck man.
good morning Sir , ..after many problems with same rifle , I just want to share my latest experience about accuracy, finally with factory bullets ( Winc.extreme point 180gr ) 1 inch group at 100 mt. maybe just a stroke of luck with my latest purchase ,Bye Bye
Got one for my 16 year old granddaughter and for what it cost if it don't work bet Browning gonna fix it for free. Like a good saddle it does need to be broke in.
I have a very accurate BAR safari mark 2. a few years ago bought a mark 3 in 308. It didn’t matter what ammo I put through it, the best I could get was a 2” group at 100 yards. I got rid of it. Curious how that one is treating you? Or anybody else on here. It was an aesthetically beautiful rifle and I wish I could have figured it out
my Hells Canyon is chambered in Springfield 30-06 and is very accurate. 3 shot groups i can cover with a nickle at 100 yards. Once this rifle heats up accuracy goes down but that is commom for semi auto rifles. I got lucky with whoever built this one at Browning, had to be some dude who has been there forever. Good luck
It has the same gas block assembly as the FN FNAR .308. The FNAR has the same issue. Why they don't set these up properly at the factory is beyond me. Mine would extract the spent case, but wouldn't send the bolt back far enough to chamber another round. I had a semi automatic bolt gun. Pisses you, right the hell off.
All I did was look at the schematic and saw it had a gas regulator that kind of made it pretty easy from there. Thanks for everything you do man. Fairwinds and following seas
I have a BAR in .338 Win Mag (Lightweight Stalker) with the BOSS muzzle brake system. I have a Leupold 3x10x40mm Mark 4 M3 scope on it. The windage dial sticks out about as far as your's does. Does your ejected brass hit the bottom of your windage dial or does it eject straight out to the side and clear the dial?
My brass actually hits the receiver, I glued a piece of leather there to stop the brass from dinging it up. You could tune it for throwing the brass. We I first tuned this it thru the brass about 8 feet. Now it's a foot or so. Good luck
Would have beed interesting to see the issues during live fire exercise. the fix . then the issues solved with another firing exercise. With Targets at 100 yards and results.
Excellent idea that never occurred to me. When it is not subzero out and shit is all green again, sounds like a good day on the bench. Thx for the input. Shit ya
Dear Friend , I have a question for you, as already wrote to you short time ago we have exactly the same Gun, do you have any suggestion for me for a best compatible cartridge for this Gun ? I m still struggling to find the best one lately I tried Winc. accubond ct 180gr but it does nt perform very well at 100mt and more, it seems little be better with Winc. extreme point 180gr. (I choses Winchester cartridge because of Browning recommendation ) In Italy we have quite hard wild boars and the engagement distance from 70mt up to 200mt, thanks in advance ! all the best!
What seem to be the issue? Not enough to take down hogs? Accuracy? I shoot Nosler ballistic tip 150 grain as well as the 180 grain Accubonds, I reload my own.
@@richrychlewski2128 Great to hear from you, thanks for your info really appreciate and I hope it works on wild boar also!! thanks and happy new Year !
Finally a Great information fucking video right to the point ,I had to do that with My BAR MK3 Hell’s Canyon....Hope Shot a slob out west ....who makes your scope rail and rings..
HI ! Actually the problem is accuracy I'm still testing the gun at the shooting range at 100mt ( not yet Hunting with it ). The shots never go to the same point they are not homogeneous sometime the gap from shot to another shot is approx 10 cm , I dont know how to explain it better, I 'm afraid something wrong with... barrel defect from the factory ? I exclude it depends on the ammunition though I use the manufactured ones that are similar with yours. I wanted to share with you all these to understand if you too had this kind of performance problem. I'm not new with browning rifle this last one is my fourth purchase and I am experienced hunter as well , but this rifle is disappointing me very much. Thank you for your attention and kindness. ciao
The only time I have the same problem is when I shoot to much to fast. These rifles will never be as accurate as a bolt action. I shoot one round and wait. Then another round. There is a lot of metal on these and when it heats up alot it effects accuracy. Try this. Shoot a round the run a bore snake thru it between shots, leave the action open and try to keep it from getting to hot. If I pound 5 rounds out of this as fast as I can it happens to me to. Good luck and motogp starts today....yaaaa
Paul as you said not much out there on the mk3 and thanks for posting. Did you find when you tuned the gas port you got better groups? Also did you have any issues with the BAR disfiguring the top of the shells after firing? I seem to have this problem with Federal powershock ammo?
Yes accuracy improved. The bent brass is from hard ejection and it , the casing, bounces off the receiver. You will start to see marks . I glued a small piece of neoprene where this occurs.
@@richrychlewski2128 above the bolt handle and back a little. If your brass is hitting the receiver you will notice it. So a piece of leather or neoprene about 1.5 inches long and let's say 3/8 high. I used 3M spray adhesive.
Thank you I’m gonna try that I shot mine for the first time yesterday it wouldn’t cycle If you see this, would you please tell me what kind of cheek crust you got? Thank you again have a great day
Hope it tunes up quick for you and you are welcome. The cheek rest Kalix Teknik and is an excellent cheek rest as they soild and modular. You will understand with some research. Good luck and shoot stright. Z
Hey bud, how would you disable the gas system completely? Turn that screw in all the way? I want to have to pull the bolt back myself each time and have it recoil back with the spring.
I would think you could do this. Not sure about any safety concerns. That being said I would do it in reverse. Loosen index screw and turn in gas regulator screw maybe a half turn and take a shot and work it down slow. I feel if you crank it all the way in at once there is a higher risk then if done slowly. Good luck and let me know how it goes for you. A very interesting approach but I understand advantages to that.
Hi Paul, I just purchased a Browning BAR MK3 semi auto 308 rifle. Went to shoot this weekend at a deer and the bullet did not fire. I do see where the cartilage has i mark on it. When i went to eject the cartilage it would not eject which caused a another cartilage trying to load and caused a jam. I also had trouble with the chamber later that afternoon that the bolt only went half way which caused another jam. can you advise me on what i should do. this gun is only 2 weeks old of when i bought it.
I hate to say this but as a shop owner the MK3's are pretty much junk compared to the older ones. This has been very frustrating for me as having a bunch of these come back. I talk people out of them at this point. If it was me I would send the weapon back, they will most likely be able to make it work, and then I would sell it and buy an older safari grade BAR.
Its also a magazine issue, the left stack takes more presure to feed a round then the right side stack. Try pushing rounds out of the mag with your fingers, the left side takes more effort. You need to file your magazine
I would make an educated guess that it was shooting low. The pressure is less at the muzzle now due to some gas pressure loss on the gas operations of cycling. It is hard to explain. Hope it settles down for you
@@Paul-wt6ij thanks for reply i only did adjust right screw is it matter i couldn't find tools for left screw my gun is MK 3 Mossy Oak Break Up Country
What was the end result? Sell them? Chuck it into river? Drop a big old rock on it? Curious if this solution would have solved those issues for you. Would make excellent data. Have a good one
No issues with my Mk3 Compo in 9,3x62 since two years but fixed magazine (2 loads) is mandatory in France…..where only bandits are allowed to have hand guns and automatic rifles like Kalashnikov…🤮
@@Paul-wt6ij For my 300 WSM, I use Federal Trophy Bonded Tip, 180 grain, and was getting 1.5 to 2 inch, 3 shot groups at 100 yards, 2960 fps. I just bought some Norma Bondstrike 180 grain, 3084 fps, and hope I get better results.
@@jackburton307 what I discovered about these rifles is that when sighting in I take one shot then wait like a minute, cool down time, with action open. During that time I will snake my barrel. There is alot of metal heating up and it will change your accuracy. If I shoot fast and empty this little mag, my later shots are way off. Like 4 inches off. Run it cool and run it dry
Groups good when shooting groups of three and some cool down between rounds, maybe 30 seconds or so. After this rifle heats up it throws lead all over the place. In three shot quick fire is very accurate, shot 4...not so much
Just took mine out today to for the first few rounds (brand new BAR MK3 in 30-06) came home after 10 rounds with it jammed and I can not for the life of me get it to cycle. Any advice?
First and foremost if it is a live ammo jam, bring it to a gunsmith. I have used a wooden dowel like 36 inches long with a diameter that goes down the barrel and tap with a mallet. Before that spray some gun oil down the barrel and let it soak while the rifle is vertical, an extra set of hand will help here next. With rifle vertical one person hold it and pull back on cocking handle and the other put dowel down the barrel and tap the dowel with a mallet. I run a bore snake thru my MK3 every 5 shots at the range to help avoid jams, especially if it is humid. Hope that helps you some, and good luck.
@@Paul-wt6ij I truly appreciate the careful and concise response sir. I did take it to my local gun shop and he was able to work out the jam with a similar method. Thanks again.

I can cover all three of my shots with a quarter from a 100 yard target. After shot 3 the heat starts to effect follow up shots with huge negative results. If the deal can't be closed in 3 shots odds for a haily Mary are not in your favor by a huge margin. Have a good one

I have not had my hands on an MK2. Does this gas block have any semblance of the mk3 gas block tuning. I don't think you can tune this gas block. As a guy who has dealt with lots of 300 blackout cycling issues, I can only recommend trying different loads. I had a rifle that only liked 147 grain bullets. Any other load and it would not cycle. Could you snap a couple pics of your gas block just for my self knowledge. Thx man

is it accurate or the scope.
Thanks for the video. A big help for anyone with function issues.
You are welcome sir
Thank you. Helped me for a suppressor application.
@bp814 How does it like a slower cycle rate?
Bought to get mine. Good to know. 👊🏼
Beautiful rifle ..I’m a big fan of bars and have been shooting safaris from 2506 to 338 win ....with hand loads I always get just under 3/4” groups ...it’s a challenge but it can do it
Browning the best there is !
I have the 300 WSM same problem thanks for the video it was very helpful
Many thanks! Got frustrated today trying to adjust the gas block for the muzzle brake! 🇸🇪
Bar ll has adjustable gas block also nothing on TH-cam about it either but it works the same way with adjustable screws.
Good to know. Thx
Good info.I have the same gun, luckily not one problem
You solved my issues with my new BAR!
Good to hear. Shoot stright
Good video 👍
Only thing that I would be good is removing the gas piston rod and using some Emery cloth to polish it
Then oil resemble and then adjust the gas block.
Thanks 👍
Be safe and shoot straight.
Thank you for the video. Just bought mine today. Happy it's a easy fix if I do have problems.
Thank you for the video..
I'm
Thinking about buying one of these rifles in a .270.
Very informative.
Welcome Bobby
Merci beaucoup Paul!
Thanks a lot Paul! It's true that I also don't understand the damn reason there is no video professional enough to explain how to troubleshoot minor issues and how to clean semi-automatic rifles, especially for the Browning Bar series. I contacted Browning to ask them if they can make a video on the Internet, but after a "polite" response, there is nothing left… .. what is the [….] , Thanks again for helping us how to deal with such a situation! Have a good day!
The browning bar, I have one, just after +60 shots, the forearm seems to be loose, I dont know why....
thanks i don't own one but in defiantly in the market for one specifically the 308 Mark 3 DBM
Excellent review and thanks for the information.
Thank You, I'm planning on buying this rifle in a few weeks.
Nice. Just got mine in stainless. Beautiful rifle. Gorgeous. Imagine my horror when it won’t eject any casing. Didn’t matter. It’s a single shot rifle for now. Pissed!!! Hope this helps me or I now have $2,000 of wall art.
No worries it will function as designed once you tune it. Good luck
Did you get it tuned up ok?
It is a T8. Great video.
thanks and have a good one
i just got a mark 3 today...hoping it works out,,,its a 243..
thanks for the video I was having the same problem
You are welcome and Goodluck
If I'm not mistaken, that has been the complaint on these rifles for forever.
God video I have the mk3 in 308 no trouble yet but I appreciate the video if I started haveing problems I know how to fix it know thank you sir
Excellent and you are welcome
Considering purchasing one. Looking for quirks online. Thank you!
I have the hells canyon 300 WSM I haven't shot it yet I got it several months ago
Great video !
How r the groups after? Tight group any flyers?
good morning Sir , ..after many problems with same rifle , I just want to share my latest experience about accuracy, finally with factory bullets ( Winc.extreme point 180gr ) 1 inch group at 100 mt. maybe just a stroke of luck with my latest purchase ,Bye Bye
Got one for my 16 year old granddaughter and for what it cost if it don't work bet Browning gonna fix it for free. Like a good saddle it does need to be broke in.
plenty of bars through the years. made in portugal, made in belgium, made in japan. lets just say i'm very satisfied with my 7400 made in the USA
What is the accuracy at 200 yards with this rifle??
Have a 30.06, and a joy to handle
Is there any practical way to clean the gas port and piston?
Thx for the vid is this just a mk3 problem or is it with the mk1 and 2 ? 🍻
@HEYBERT1984 i have not had my hands on either, so I would be curious. I feel the MK3 has the first gas block you can tune. Thx. -Z
I'm having a similar issue with the Browning BAR MK3 DBM, Thanks!!!
Hope it tunes up for ya
Thanks Paul
I may not get to it for several weeks...
Good luck
@@Paul-wt6ijThanks for the tip. How did you tune the ejection?
@@joelouden6592 same as video. You can make it not eject or make it throw them 10 feet by tuning the gas block. Good luck
I like the gun,, can you tell me the weight.
Shit ya
Thank you for sharing 😊
Dear Friend , I have a question for you, as already wrote to you short time ago we have exactly the same Gun, do you have any suggestion for me for a best compatible cartridge for this Gun ? I m still struggling to find the best one lately I tried Winc. accubond ct 180gr but it does nt perform very well at 100mt and more, it seems little be better with Winc. extreme point 180gr.
(I choses Winchester cartridge because of Browning recommendation )
In Italy we have quite hard wild boars and the engagement distance from 70mt up to 200mt, thanks in advance !
all the best!
What seem to be the issue? Not enough to take down hogs? Accuracy? I shoot Nosler ballistic tip 150 grain as well as the 180 grain Accubonds, I reload my own.
Hi I have mk3 wood stock and shoot Federal Powershock 150 grains and get 1 inch groups at 100 yards , try it it may work for you
@@richrychlewski2128 Great to hear from you, thanks for your info really appreciate and I hope it works on wild boar also!! thanks and happy new Year !
Finally a Great information fucking video right to the point ,I had to do that with My BAR MK3 Hell’s Canyon....Hope Shot a slob out west ....who makes your scope rail and rings..
Thx for the comment. I use 34mm SPUHR rings and a steel Nightforce rail. Glad you all had good luck out west. Have a good one
It didn’t come with a book?
Very good info what caliber you shoot for mule deer
I shoot 150 gr Nosler blastic tip hand loads.
Excellent video thanks.
You are welcome. Hope it tunes up nice for you
Great video. Thanks
Thanks for very informative video
@@Paul-wt6ij For sure I will! thanks so much!
My mark 11 can with adjustable block
Paul as you said not much out there on the mk3 and thanks for posting. Did you find when you tuned the gas port you got better groups? Also did you have any issues with the BAR disfiguring the top of the shells after firing? I seem to have this problem with Federal powershock ammo?
Yes accuracy improved. The bent brass is from hard ejection and it , the casing, bounces off the receiver. You will start to see marks . I glued a small piece of neoprene where this occurs.
@@Paul-wt6ij thanks , where did you exactly glue the neoprene on the receiver ?
@@richrychlewski2128 above the bolt handle and back a little. If your brass is hitting the receiver you will notice it. So a piece of leather or neoprene about 1.5 inches long and let's say 3/8 high. I used 3M spray adhesive.
@@Paul-wt6ij Thanks Paul , I will give it try.
Question I just took you instructions... screw that adjust the air is already out to 3 turnd from factory.. should I try 3 1/2 turned out?
I would try it.
Great video! You should make a field strip for cleaning video.
Good video bud. I just ordered a BAR .300 hells canyon. What kind of scope do you have on yours?
Nightforce ATACR 5X25X56
MIL-R reticle. Thx for comment. I do enjoy this rifle very much
Thank you I’m gonna try that
I shot mine for the first time yesterday it wouldn’t cycle
If you see this, would you please tell me what kind of cheek crust you got?
Thanks!!
What cheek riser is that?
Any thoughts on the Benelli R1?
great video....thank you
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!
I did same thing and start cycling but Messed up accuracy 4 to 5 inches
I would make an educated guess that it was shooting low. The pressure is less at the muzzle now due to some gas pressure loss on the gas operations of cycling. It is hard to explain. Hope it settles down for you
@@Paul-wt6ij thanks for reply i only did adjust right screw is it matter i couldn't find tools for left screw my gun is MK 3 Mossy Oak Break Up Country
I owned two of these, never got either to cycle, ever.
Great video. What kind of grouping are you getting at 100 yrds?
I can cover my 3 shot group with a nickle at 100 yards
@@Paul-wt6ij what bullets are you using?
@@jackburton307 150 grain Nosler Ballistic tip, 2970 fps
How's it grouping? Would like to see some shooting!
Groups good when shooting groups of three and some cool down between rounds, maybe 30 seconds or so. After this rifle heats up it throws lead all over the place. In three shot quick fire is very accurate, shot 4...not so much
@@Paul-wt6ij Good, like 3 shots 1 MOA (inch)? That's usually my standard for a hunting rifle.
Yes. I can cover a 3 shot group at 100yds with a quarter
@@Paul-wt6ij Very nice thank you. Still would like to see some shooting videos though!
Mine groups tight at 300 yards in 30 06
Just took mine out today to for the first few rounds (brand new BAR MK3 in 30-06) came home after 10 rounds with it jammed and I can not for the life of me get it to cycle.
You are welcome sir.
Any tips on scope mounts? Tried the basic browning bar integrated scope system and it doesn’t fit with my new vortex, front bottoms out
What size is your bell? I use SPUHR mounts in 34 mm.
@@Paul-wt6ij Thanks for the reply. it's a Vortex Crossfire II with 4x12x50mm to it's a bit big. I tried a couple of mounts but am struggling to find one that fits. It's a 1 inch tube. What type of mounting base/rail is on your's? looks like it lifts the scope up pretty high. Mine is also a .243
@@CHaynes530 I use a steel rail I got online. Zero MOA. Get a rail, preferably not aluminum cuz aluminum will stretch, then low rings should work. I always try to use the same manufacturer for the scope and rings. But if you have rings now, get a rail and you should be all set. Good luck shoot stright
What’s the tool for the set screw?? Doesn’t look like a Allen, looks more of a t bit but all my tools don’t go that small
I have a browing bar mk3 dbm always jams on my 6-7 round
I will confirm bit size and let you know. Happy Hunting....-Z
I will confirm bit size and let you know
Thanks Paul!!
What kind of groups did you get @ 100 yards ??
I can cover all three of my shots with a quarter from a 100 yard target. After shot 3 the heat starts to effect follow up shots with huge negative results. If the deal can't be closed in 3 shots odds for a haily Mary are not in your favor by a huge margin. Have a good one
Having the same problem on my Bar mark 2 safari , it ejects well but the incoming round hangs up on an angle , usually around the third round, I have cleaned this weapon very well piston and all and still the same problem. Do you think this adjustment would help ? It’s in a 30/06 cal
Thx man
The gas block look a lot like your maybe even the same one , the screws have like a red paint/ lock tight ? On them I’m out of town but ya I can send you some pictures . Thanks for the reply !
