What year is this Mazda Cx7 that you are working on? I have a 2007 Mazda Cx7 and today the heater core started to leak coolant from the inside and is running out side on top of the muffler and smoking. Still I have to remove all this?
Good luck I could not find a heater core for my 2007. As I was wanting to replace it also while I was in there. I highly recommend you replace this evaporator also so you don’t have to come back to this nightmare.
You don't need to disassemble the whole dashboard... You just take the complete dashboard by removing some bolts... Look at the production line of Mazda....

Base on your concern, you need to replace your heater core.
