I’m 5’5 and 286 pounds. Butterball if you will. But after following you, Tim. I’ve changed a lot of my habits. I spend an hour walking my block every morning. Started lifting weights now up to 4 days a week. I was 311 pounds when I started following you. Would like to shed some more weight before getting into bjj class. That’s my current goal.

Let me offer a different perspective from something I observed recently. My brother in law's family has a typical modern type structure. Both parents work but the mother is the breadwinner, the father isn't mechanically inclined whatsoever and they have a 12 year old son that plays video games all day. At a recent family get together, the son had some friends over. The boys looked like a group of stereotypical Gen Z kids, small nerdy and weak. But I watched and listened to them while they played. They where playing some type of military game with leggos. I was shocked by the depth of knowledge they had about military strategy, war history and modern weapons and artillery. They knew more about ballistics than I do. Not only where they all well versed in American military weapons and strategies, but also in Russian and Chinese military weapons and strategies. They discussed everything from the war in Ukraine to how atoms are used to create nuclear weapons. After his friends left I asked him where he learned all of this stuff, and he replied "Video Games and TH-cam". So I believe it's not that they aren't learning, they're just learning differently than we did. Not only that, but they're much smarter than we where at their age. I don't think we give them enough credit. If we wanted to engage their interests further, they need INFLUENCE. They need influential people to step up and make content that's gonna appeal to them. There's already big influencers out there grabbing the youth's attention, like Lucas at T.Rex Arms, Garand Thumb, Gunthots etc. Call of Duty is probably hands down the biggest influence on young men getting interested in the military. What they won't respond to, is a bunch of old farts like us telling them how shitty they are.

Maslow's pyramid needs a base....Sweat equity and physical competence cannot be ignored or hired out to others. Concentrate only on the top and you're doomed. Grunts who are intelligent also... will always rule over soft handed comfort seekers who overestimate their "intelligence" alone.

Can confirm as a 20 year old, playing competitive shooters for the last 7 years (and casual ones before that) I can attest the vast majority of my tactical knowledge, and gun manipulation skills to Rainbow Six: Siege. It was originally supposed to be based on the Tom Clancy book by the same name, although they've strayed far from the source material.

I got down to 180 and now im back at 190 since Ive started lifting weights with my little brother. Meanwhile, I’m a 6’3 very fit and mechanically-inclined hard worker who’s applied to become a police officer 3 times in my Austin area once-rural, now-suburban hometown, and they simply don’t want me because I don’t have enough college credits, and my Navy DD214 isn’t good enough because my recruiters lied to me and screwed me over on-paper which directly caused me to get discharged out of bootcamp on processing day-4.
I wanted to be SEAL. My recruiters wanted their quota met.
Even local fire won’t take me on because I don’t have the college credits, even though I’ve saved the life of an Army PFC who tried to take his own life right in front of me, was threatening to slit my throat with the serrated KA-bar in his hand if I either tried to stop him, or if I tried calling for help, was also threatening the lives of any potential first-responders who may arrive, and who ultimately died for a very long 2 minutes in the passenger seat as I was driving within eyesight of the ER (I watched his pulse stop), and he somehow miraculously ended up coming back to life and ultimately survived.
I’m a 7-8th generation central Texan (we lost count), and it feels like my community doesn’t want me. I’ve lived here longer than the freaking mayor, who I happen to know personally. He moved here when I was in 5th grade, and I was close friends with his stepson.
America seems to create its own problems, people.
The god-forsaken paper dragon disqualifies so many qualified people from doing good, and yet we wonder why we have problems?

Absolutely loved this episode. You gentlemen provide a life view that should be observed by every young man in this country. Strength and capability are being attacked and our people are being softened day-by-day. I am 19 years old close to 20 and I've come to realize the importance of all the characteristics mentioned in this podcast over the last couple of years. I want to be capable in things like combat, sruvival, mechanics, etc. I want to be a leader and become the best man I can be for my family and friends. God has touched my heart and I know that my calling is to protect and serve. I have been able to bulk up to 195lbs at 6'4" over the last 2 years. I am working on my 4-year degree currently and am going to apply to be a state trooper in NYS (I live upstate) with the hopes of joining a SWAT unit. One day I hope to have the ability to move out of state where I can be in a like minded environment and learn from men like you. God bless you guys and all you've done and will continue to do. I just wanted you to know that YES men who want to be real men are out there, we just need guidance from those of you who have gone through it all.

Camping, fishing, disguising life and choices. Daughter loves to camp and is chomping at the bit to go to the range but gets weapons handling and knowledge at home. She is told how strong and powerful she is but still is a princess. On the parents to keep the next generation in line. From a person coming from a broken home. Had the self awareness to know to do and be better. Hope they fall in that percentage that is fighting fit, your speaking on Tim. Many blessings to you and yours! 34:23

I love this episode. I used to weigh over 350+ lbs, lost weight, and joined the services. I've maintained a high level of fitness since then and train BJJ as well to be well rounded. I try to be optimistic like Tim about the current generation, but I'm a realist. For me, no one ever said being fat was ok, so making the decision to lose the weight was easy. The best we can do is try to police ourselves and hope being a good example will get others to do the same.

As a fatherless juvenile delinquent foster child, I’d like to know statistically how many of those kids turn their lives around on their own and become functional members of society. The army became my father and family, the National Guard actually helped me graduate high school by giving me goals and structure. But I’ve grown the most since I came active duty and I’ve been able to thrive in this environment for years. But the army is changing and it’s not just lowering standards it’s also changing the culture and removing pieces of our history. I used to be so proud of being a Scout, Stetsons, spur rides, BBQ’s, Fight Friday’s. The new army has progressively completely destroyed the culture that saved me from my own self and is getting rid of my MOS.

I've been in the electrical industry 27 years. Nobody is going into the trades anymore (carpenter/plumber /hvac etc). We can't find young people who will even come to our shop to fill out an application. The worst hit occupation that will be the biggest issue is trucking. I think the US moves about 70% of goods by volume with trucks. The boomers are almost all retired and there just aren't enough young kids (even if they all wanted to) to fill all these jobs. 17 years ago I was 30 and one of the younger dudes at my shop. No all of us are late 40s early 50's and we barely have any early to mid 20s apprentices. If the trades can't fill spots we are in deep crap with this military issue. None of the projects we've done in the past year and a half have finished on schedule do to labor shortage.

I never served, but I’m working out with a combat vet going back into Army Reserve to get enough years for a pension. Our training is focused on passing the ACFT. The standards are not that difficult. I’m 63 and I pass the 60+ standards with high scores, several 100s. I get passing scores on all the 18+ standards except running, because I’m too fat. I was never anything more than a mediocre athlete. It scares me that recruits are failing this test even though all the tests are public knowledge. Since we started our training, they eliminated the tuck test because too many people couldn’t meet the minimum score of 1.

I think you guys are right about a lot of stuff, but I don’t know if you understand the mindset of young men today. Most guys under thirty take a look around they’re lives and think there is nothing to live for. A family is really the only thing to try, but it isn’t viable. Most young men look at the women around them and all they see are those girls posting pics about they’re hot girl summer and how everything wrong with society is men’s fault. When guys see 46% divorce rates and hear horror stories about other guys losing everything because unfair alimony payments; they don’t even wanna try to have a long term relationship. I’m not trying to tell you guys what to do ,but I have to suggest that before we talk about all these practical solutions to theses problems; we need to find a way to convince men that there is some meaning in life, and if you can’t do that then I don’t think telling guys these solutions will matter. Guys will just keep eating themselves into uselessness and an early grave or just out right kill themselves like there doing in record numbers. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to read my comment.

And it's becoming easier to numb yourself to the lack of meaning. Porn isn't as good as sex, but it scratches the itch, and is zero risk of the potential consequences of dating. Winning in video games is not as satisfying as accomplishing tasks in real life, but it also scratches the itch of feeling useful or skilled at something. Women dominate colleges in staff and students, and they have a hate for Traditional male values. It's tough to think of solutions for how we get out of this mess!

I wonder how much not getting to pretend as a child, just forced into adulthood creating delayed pretending, or playing as a girl character in video games, or too much virtual playing and not enough real world playing/ experience or a desire for any real world attention by any means necessary because all socializing is online, I wonder how all of those have played roles in the identity situation we are seeing now

I'm embarrassed to say that the department I work for (a large Sheriff's Department) does not have a fitness standard. You complete the academy (which is laughable) and that's it - no more standard. I am no premier athlete and will never be the fittest guy in the room, but I have a strength training and cardio (rower) program that I follow regularly - it takes 60-70 minutes, including warm up, that's it! If not for you, how about for the partner next to you? You may have to rely on your fitness to save yourself, your partner, a family member or one of the citizens you serve. Anyway, that's my two cents...

Health and fitness are important for life. But why are we still talking nowadays of sending people to kill each other? Hasn't there been enough suffering to finally wake us up to the truth?

Why would I join the military. They would pay me nickels compared to what I get paid now. And I am strapping young fella. I played a college sport, have always hunted and fished, grew up outside. The incentive structure is just not there. The people who are physically gifted athletes are playing sports or simply doing something else. Maybe if our politicians stopped making 200k a year and our soldiers were paid better and there for selected from a higher talent pool, things would look better. You just aren’t going to get as many talented people when you are offering 17k a year and complete and utter loss of personal freedom
