The Palace of Alcazarzaray had ever so briefly filled the hole in his heart that had been ripped open by so many things, but it had also proved to him once again that no matter what he gave to attain his ideals, it wasn't enough. He was now directionless, and enmeshed in a world where he could not go anywhere without Mora. And yet he was accustomed since his youth to putting on a brave front, and so Kaveh was unwilling to let his colleagues and friends know that he was nigh penniless even after selling all he owned, and so he went to a tavern, where he would order a few bottles and chat to comfort himself. One bottle later, he would collapse at the table, only to wake up in the exact same position afterward. Lambad, the tavern owner, had reserved a seat and a few free drinks for him out of kindness, and as thanks, Kaveh helped him redesign and refit the booth seating area of the tavern's second floor. He would occasionally meet friends from his Akademiya schooling days, and with them he would pretend that he was just here to drink and gather inspiration. He would spend over a fortnight in this manner, during which he would encounter that friend that he no longer called "friend." When discussing Kaveh's old friends, the current Akademiya Scribe, Alhaitham of Haravatat, will invariably get mentioned. Alhaitham enrolled at a later date than most of those his age, but his grades stood out above the rest. People didn't know who he was or where to find him normally, only that he was some student who had gotten high marks. And when his name was mentioned, even the old researchers from Kshahrewar would shake their heads and say that he was too intelligent by half and hard to get along with. At that time, Kaveh had just parted ways with his mother and was living alone. He would meet this junior student in the library at times, and would speak to him out of curiosity, and thus did he meet the Haravatat genius Alhaitham. But time would go on to prove that wishful thinking alone does not friends make. For Kaveh quickly realized that Alhaitham, though two years his junior and admittedly both extremely talented and incredibly gifted, was also utterly different from him, whether it be in personality, dealing with people, academic direction, and convictions. Kaveh's time in school would leave him with a great many memories, the least pleasant of which is the group project they undertook together. Each recognized the other's ability, and they decided to conduct research regarding ancient structures, ancient runes, and linguistics, with Kaveh suggesting that Alhaitham be the one responsible for selecting the topic. At first, others would take also take part in the cooperative project, but as the work progressed, the other students dropped out gradually as they could not keep up. That was the first time Kaveh realized the brutal and all-too-intuitive difference in talent between individuals. The Akademiya linked talent and resources to an extreme degree, and all here knew that. As Alhaitham liked to put it, certain matters have their upper limit determined by talent and their lower bound determined by hard work. Ordinary people and geniuses would be separated by various practical realities, and they did not have to force themselves to fit into a group they did not belong to. Kaveh, however, was resolute in his belief that this was all the result of obstacles that appeared during the process, and that wisdom should be uncovered by many people. To prevent the other students from backing out, Kaveh spent much time and effort helping them with their work, placing a great burden on his own shoulders. Alhaitham persisted in upholding the opposite view, believing Kaveh to be too idealistic in his ways - academia was not charity work, and temporary salvation would not change the reality of their differences in ability. Thus did discord arise between the two. Finally, the day came when only two people remained working on the topic: Alhaitham and Kaveh. The disputes between them accumulated to a critical mass before exploding spectacularly. Kaveh maintained that Alhaitham was too much of an egoist, that he could be much better welcomed amongst people if he would just care about helping out more often. Alhaitham for his part pointed out that Kaveh's impractical idealism was just a flight from reality, and that it would come to be a burden on his existence someday, and the source of Kaveh's altruism was naught but his inescapable sense of guilt. At that moment, more than anything else, Kaveh felt cut to the quick by someone who was his best friend. Alhaitham had seen through the reality that he had never been able to face, causing him to feel reality's bite for the first time, a feeling that made Kaveh steadfastly declare that he regretted making friends with this all-too-intelligent person. The two parted ways in a single stroke. Alhaitham would remove his name from that thesis, while Kaveh would rip his copy of the thesis apart in a fury - only to put it back together with deep regret. He sensed that he would not be able to change his friend, with the reverse also being true. Afterwards, the two would later clash in academic journals several times, each criticizing the other's perspective. Before this, the "Decoding the Runes and Architectural Philosophy of the Ruins of King Deshret's Civilization" had made great progress. Its fruits on the linguistics front had filled various gaps in the grammatical logic of some ancient minor languages, allowing for the successful interpretation of many important texts. Similarly, the results achieved in architectural studies had successfully improved the load-bearing structures for some special terrain features in Sumeru, which greatly improved the lives of those living in remote regions. To encourage the project, the Akademiya had even specially designated a research site for its use. Unfortunately, lacking manpower and a united vision on the part of its primary researchers, it eventually ground to a halt. This failed project became an unavoidable part of Kaveh's past. As the years passed, and he was beaten back by reality time and time again, Kaveh was forced to admit that his persistence born of wishful thinking was not always useful. It was only when he was rendered penniless that he finally understood the deeper meaning behind his friend's past words. A person who wished to ascend to the garden of heaven upon steps made of thin air would inevitably plant their feet on an empty stair and fall to their death. As a genius, Kaveh longed to belong in a crowd, subconsciously fearing separation from it - this was the difference between him and Alhaitham. Returning to the matter of that table in the tavern, Kaveh was deeply shocked to see Alhaitham, who was coincidentally present to purchase some alcohol, in this place. Alhaitham for his part could immediately tell that Kaveh was in a very bad way. Having been oppressed by life for too long, Kaveh completely unloaded all his woes onto his erstwhile friend right there and then. After all, there was nowhere to hide from his problems, so what use was concealing them in front of the one friend with whom he had fallen out so acrimoniously? He would lament about a great many misfortunes that had befallen him, only falling silent when they left the tavern in the dead of night, and his eyes fell upon a place in the distance that he once called home. Alhaitham, on the other hand, listened intently to Kaveh's words, and seeing through him once more, asked him a difficult question: "How has realizing your ideals gone for you?" Only reality can force a researcher to admit that they were wrong, but Kaveh did not know what he should consider reality. He yearned for a fantasy so perfect and beautiful that none need flee it, even if the price of this dream was losing himself. He still firmly believed that his ideals were in themselves not mistaken, and that the fault lay only in the methods used to achieve them. People should not give up, for even if they are doing good in an attempt to make up for something, the results will still have meaning for some. Even if he could not enter that promised land of his ideals, that did not mean the radiance and the attraction of such a realm should be denied. As for those phantasm-like realities, like how he found his homeless self living his friend's house by happenstance, or how this house, now under the Scribe's name, had been converted from that same research center the Akademiya had offered them back in the day, or how this excess academic asset would not have been turned into a residence at all after numerous transactions, had Kaveh not resolved to give it up... Or how, knowing full well that Alhaitham never did perform a good deed unconditionally, Kaveh would be plagued by guilty conscience and proactively mention helping with household chores, only to become saddled with all the domestic errands... These might be an annoyance for someone at a low point in life, but they are also proof the most unshakable part of one's past is a friend that will never change. Rationality and sensibility, language and architecture, knowledge and human feelings... I loved how alhaitham looked genuinely proud when kaveh won the competition. And ofcourse he cares for him just doesn't show it. He went through the entire research of that dude to figure out how it was involved with kaveh's dad.

He actually did care, and tried to warn Kaveh. But his delivery was very harsh, and used Kaveh's most hidden shameful secret against him during the argument (Kaveh has a guilt complex, because he believes that his father died because of him) Kaveh freaked out, and denounced their friendship. This si how the fallout happened between them, during their shared project.

Yehh~ true I see Haitham as the type of guy who's completely straight forward and frank with his words, but in regards to his actions he doesn't really show it off. He does things on his own accord, and the person would either be left confuse for a bit or wouldn't question it at all.
From what haitham said at the end of the recent event, he just lacks of feeling or showing strong emotions (from what he says about the old man studies at the end), but he even think that kaveh will bring back leftovers at home, so even if they fight...they still care for each other. haitham is even surprised when kaveh shattered the crown at the end of the event, because if he hate kaveh, he would be just pissed to have to give him a home for more time but he cares
And if he does show explicit care Nd sympathy at this point of their relationship kaveh would just find a "reason" that is in bad faith, potentially pushing kaveh into treat him like any other peopl (polite but guarded)
No, Alhaitham isn't emphatetic. He's a fixer because he's a very logical person so he says what's wrong and what needs to be done as a matter of factly. Most of the time what he thinks is right just happens to align with what needs to be done for that person to better themselves, yet he couldn't care less about the other person's well-being. I know that everyone wants him to be this strict guy with a heart of gold, but he's really not. He still has people around him because he's just been socially lucky.. most of the people around him tolerates him because of his intelligence tho irl he's the equivalent to Sheldon.
Knowing Cyno's deduction skills, I am convinced the TCG card wasn't really worth a million mora. He simply wanted to help and figured Kaveh might not accept it otherwise.

Love how complicated yet caring these two's misunderstood personalities and relationship is. Like, people really misunderstand these two and keep saying stuff like "Alhaitham doesn't care about Kaveh" Kaveh has real problems with guilt and blaming himself for something out of his control to the point he doesn't accept it when people try being nice to him since he doesn't think he deserves it, he probably would have left if Alhaitham showed him kindness. So I think Alhaitham really cares about his old friend/roommate/however you interpret these two, he's just cautious and calculating as always, making sure to treat Kaveh the way he unfortunately feels most comfortable even if it's not healthy. But Alhaitham is smart, I can see this as a way of him doing this until Kaveh fineally learns to move on from his past and would be comfortable with accepting kindness again, yknow, baby steps. But also, honorable mention for Alhaitham's obvious autism that makes things more complicated in their relationship. Autism isn't like in fairytails where it's just something quirky with no actual troubles. And it's obvious in this case too. Alhaitham may mean well- but he often can't express it the way normal, mostly neurotypical people would expect, and he's often called an asshole for his neurodivergent tendencies. Honestly I was really curious on why exactly they were the way they are because to me it just seemed like Kaveh was some sort of tsundere, but after fineally hearing about Kaveh's story, it all makes sense, and it's really well executed in my opinion
And also that Alhaitham is naturally the kind of person who doesn't show care and affection upfront the way normal people do. We already know he cared about what happens to Nahida, even though he frames it as "I just want to keep my job and position just as it is and avoid change," and Kaveh has warned us in his Voicelines that Alhaitham will try to make us think he's a robot but he actually just has a complicated personality. In Alhaitham's voicelines, he tells us that he took Kaveh in because he can learn a lot from Kaveh's perspective of the world which is so different from his own. But from Kaveh's character story we know that he listened to Kaveh's entire life story attentively and then offered him his house. He cares.

He cares about doing the right thing (he went behind the Akademiya’s back many times as a result), and he also cares about the Akademiya and Sumeru in general (in his story quest, he said he was going to do something about the lack of motivation from scholars after the archon quest. And after the archon quest ended, at the feast he said the feast has unique meaning because people here feel genuine joy - and he seemed pretty happy about it).

Kaveh is my main, my beloved, my everything. I cry a thousand times when I think about his story background and I cry even more when I listen to the "Writing on the wall" song. WHY THIS GUY NEEDS TO SUFFER THIS MUCH??!??
What also makes it sad is that kaveh drinks his pain away but al haithaim takes his drinks out of the house (kaveh from new event quest pt 2: “with taking liberties? He’s(haitham) certainly okay with helping himself to my beer whenever he pleases.”
If you read the public sign outside the tavern you can see that Kaveh stole a sizeable wine shipment from Alhaitham. Both of them frequent the tavern (with Alhaitham usually ending up with Kaveh's tab) but it really seems like they have a tradition of snatching drinks from one another.

Basically when Kaveh was younger his dad died (I forgot the cause, prolly an accident) and it affected his mother, he blames himself for it. And then his mother went to fontaine leaving him in sumeru without saying anything. On Layla's voicelines about Kaveh it was said that he seems to be a type of person with a personality. He doesn't have a second personality but whenever she sees him even when he's smiling she feels like it's empty behind it.
Kaveh's father died, because Kaveh encouraged him to take part in the Interdarshan championship. (he died in an accident) His mother fallen in depression, ignored Kaveh, who only tried to support her, and keep her company. Kaveh lived the rest of his childhood in guilt, believing that his father died because of him. Partly because of his guilt, he became a very altruistic person, who self sacrificed himself for others. Alhaitham realized it, and tried to warn Kaveh, but Kaveh wasn't ready to hear the truth.
When your friend who's so indifferent to everything gets angry at you, you know he cares 😢 It was the only way Alhaitham can talk to Kaveh because any gentle and kind words will only make him feel guilty and leave. Poor Kaveh, we don't know when he will get over it and find happiness 😢
At least Bennet has a heap of supportive dads in his unlucky life. Kaveh has negative one dad and a runaway mom, people taking advantage of his kind heart, and a roommate that he has a complicated relationship with. Like what the hell man, why you gotta hurt my boi and me like this TT-TT

I recently learned about Kaveh's lore and I've unfortunately had similar experiences, only with my brother, so I understand just how much pain he really feels inside, and I also know what it's like to try to compensate for the fact that you couldn't save someone from themselves, and do everything in my power to make sure that everyone around you feels loved so that they don't have to go through the pain you know all too well. We need to protect this man at all costs, he is too sweet and pure for this world and he deserves all the love in the universe. If anyone reading this struggles with self worth, please remember that there are always people who love you unconditionally, and please never be afraid to reach out for help when you're struggling. Nobody can go through life alone, we all need a shoulder to cry on sometimes, and if you truly feel like you don't have that, then I will gladly take up that position for you. If anyone needs someone to talk to, to offer advice, or even just someone to listen as you let out all the emotions you've been bottling up inside, please never be afraid to talk to me, I'm always here if anyone needs support. I realized that kaveh is basically me but like his backstory is much sadder tho. I remembered when i was still in a constant breakdowns, i had to keep a happy face so no one suspect me. After im alone i usually just cry a lot. It really hurts so see a character to just share something the same to me. My heart is just sad lmao
Alhaitham had a quiet childhood. He had a loving grandma, who understood him, and since he didn't remembered his parents he didn't missed them. The only bad thing in his childhood was that Alhaitham was a bit lonely. Kaveh's on the other hand is very sad...He lost a warm, and loving family, his mother ignored him, and left him behind, and Kaveh lived his days with crushing guilt. (he believed that his father died because of him) He have never wore a sad face around his mother, and worked hard to support her, and keep her company.
- After Akademiya and doing commissions, his hard work got destroyed for his commission for Dori, and although told to leave he used his own money to finish his commission knowing he wouldn't get paid, in the process he sold all his belongings(left by his mother) and went broke afterward. Then he literally falls into a state of depression Kaveh is literally a mess dude

Kaveh really is the most depressing character in genshin ngl. I mean lots of characters have their woes, but they at least let it be known or they’re healing. Kaveh just suffers in silence most of the time and like we can only watch him from a distance as he sinks in his constant misfortune.
(spoilers) after reading that his mom remarried and left for Fontaine, then in the event when he said his dad died, I felt so bad for him. Then he is broke and has a huge debt to pay, and was so scared of people knowing he stays over at Alhaitham's. I'm not sure if there's anymore to his lore cuz all that were the parts I read before, but it's enough to make me cry and want him even more
Idk abt genshin much, but from genshin vids heres my kavehs lore knowledge. Kaveh's dad had went to a desert for a small mission but due to a sand storm, his dad died. Kavehs mother was so depressed by that death, she abbandoned kaveh. Kaveh grew up all alone and blamed hinself for everything. His mother, his father, etc. He soon needed a place to live, and he found Al haithem. Kaveh supposedley hates being complimented and when hes praised because he things he dosent deserve it. Al haithem and his fight alot but kaveh dosent think much about it since its aggresive and stuff and he hates compliments. Kaveh does hate himself *HEAVILY* but its hidden from all these cutscenes and stuff. Note: I learned this from just plainley watching Genshin videos, theories, etc so it could be false theories ive talked about. Anyways hope this helps

The way I absolutely relate to Kaveh, as a victim of emotional abuse. (Thankfully, with enough time and support I'm in a better place with people who care about me). Sometimes that's all we can do. Love others because we can't find it in us to love ourselves.

Oh yeah maybe it’s fake or it has another meaning, but this made me remember about something… If you were paying attention in the recent 3.6 event, at the moment when Kaveh wins the 2 points and screams: « YAYYYYY I WOOON I CAN’T BELIEVE I WON I’M SO LUCKYYY HECK YEAH » Ok not exactly that but close enough, there was right after that AlHaitham sentence « … » and looking at his character, he seemed to slightly look at the floor and because it’s animation and not « in real life » characters, maybe my guess is fake but he seemed a little disappointed or pensive making me think that perhaps he does not hope that Kaveh will leave his house and maybe he actually wants him to stay and I don’t know what would be the reason (Maybe they actually have interesting conversations or he’s basically like a cat meaning that he wants another person to be there but not necessarily interact much with them) OR he was thinking about how to rationalize the situation and make Kaveh see that it’s NOT DONE there are still points needed and compared to like Cyno that had 4 points, HE’S NOT ADVANCED… He had HALF the 1st place points so yeah I don’t know which option it is, but yeah these are my guesses. Please tell me what you think
tldr. he cares, he's just unexpressive. I'm beginning to agree on the theory/headcanon with Alhaitham being on the spectrum. We on the spectrum are easily misunderstood as uncaring, self-absorbed, unempathetic, or even narcissistic. In reality; he wants to connect, but struggles showing proper emphetic responses to someone as emotive, expressive (and micro-expressive) and unrational as Kaveh. No doubt Kaveh is putting him on emotional overload, and Alhaitham still tries his best, lives with him, helps him, etc; Transl. He cares A LOT.
I mean... It's rude but true. Can't ever feel loved w/o loving yourself first. And Kaveh??? He's super selfless to the point where it might be his end one day :( I really hope we see some character development from Hoyoverse and Kaveh's guilt eases up eventually.

And yet he was accustomed since his youth to putting on a brave front, and so Kaveh was unwilling to let his colleagues and friends know that he was nigh penniless even after selling all he owned, and so he went to a tavern, where he would order a few bottles and chat to comfort himself. One bottle later, he would collapse at the table, only to wake up in the exact same position afterward.
Lambad, the tavern owner, had reserved a seat and a few free drinks for him out of kindness, and as thanks, Kaveh helped him redesign and refit the booth seating area of the tavern's second floor. He would occasionally meet friends from his Akademiya schooling days, and with them he would pretend that he was just here to drink and gather inspiration. He would spend over a fortnight in this manner, during which he would encounter that friend that he no longer called "friend."
When discussing Kaveh's old friends, the current Akademiya Scribe, Alhaitham of Haravatat, will invariably get mentioned. Alhaitham enrolled at a later date than most of those his age, but his grades stood out above the rest. People didn't know who he was or where to find him normally, only that he was some student who had gotten high marks. And when his name was mentioned, even the old researchers from Kshahrewar would shake their heads and say that he was too intelligent by half and hard to get along with.
At that time, Kaveh had just parted ways with his mother and was living alone. He would meet this junior student in the library at times, and would speak to him out of curiosity, and thus did he meet the Haravatat genius Alhaitham. But time would go on to prove that wishful thinking alone does not friends make. For Kaveh quickly realized that Alhaitham, though two years his junior and admittedly both extremely talented and incredibly gifted, was also utterly different from him, whether it be in personality, dealing with people, academic direction, and convictions.
Kaveh's time in school would leave him with a great many memories, the least pleasant of which is the group project they undertook together. Each recognized the other's ability, and they decided to conduct research regarding ancient structures, ancient runes, and linguistics, with Kaveh suggesting that Alhaitham be the one responsible for selecting the topic. At first, others would take also take part in the cooperative project, but as the work progressed, the other students dropped out gradually as they could not keep up. That was the first time Kaveh realized the brutal and all-too-intuitive difference in talent between individuals. The Akademiya linked talent and resources to an extreme degree, and all here knew that. As Alhaitham liked to put it, certain matters have their upper limit determined by talent and their lower bound determined by hard work. Ordinary people and geniuses would be separated by various practical realities, and they did not have to force themselves to fit into a group they did not belong to. Kaveh, however, was resolute in his belief that this was all the result of obstacles that appeared during the process, and that wisdom should be uncovered by many people. To prevent the other students from backing out, Kaveh spent much time and effort helping them with their work, placing a great burden on his own shoulders. Alhaitham persisted in upholding the opposite view, believing Kaveh to be too idealistic in his ways - academia was not charity work, and temporary salvation would not change the reality of their differences in ability. Thus did discord arise between the two.
Finally, the day came when only two people remained working on the topic: Alhaitham and Kaveh. The disputes between them accumulated to a critical mass before exploding spectacularly. Kaveh maintained that Alhaitham was too much of an egoist, that he could be much better welcomed amongst people if he would just care about helping out more often. Alhaitham for his part pointed out that Kaveh's impractical idealism was just a flight from reality, and that it would come to be a burden on his existence someday, and the source of Kaveh's altruism was naught but his inescapable sense of guilt. At that moment, more than anything else, Kaveh felt cut to the quick by someone who was his best friend. Alhaitham had seen through the reality that he had never been able to face, causing him to feel reality's bite for the first time, a feeling that made Kaveh steadfastly declare that he regretted making friends with this all-too-intelligent person.
The two parted ways in a single stroke. Alhaitham would remove his name from that thesis, while Kaveh would rip his copy of the thesis apart in a fury - only to put it back together with deep regret. He sensed that he would not be able to change his friend, with the reverse also being true.
Afterwards, the two would later clash in academic journals several times, each criticizing the other's perspective. Before this, the "Decoding the Runes and Architectural Philosophy of the Ruins of King Deshret's Civilization" had made great progress. Its fruits on the linguistics front had filled various gaps in the grammatical logic of some ancient minor languages, allowing for the successful interpretation of many important texts. Similarly, the results achieved in architectural studies had successfully improved the load-bearing structures for some special terrain features in Sumeru, which greatly improved the lives of those living in remote regions. To encourage the project, the Akademiya had even specially designated a research site for its use. Unfortunately, lacking manpower and a united vision on the part of its primary researchers, it eventually ground to a halt.
This failed project became an unavoidable part of Kaveh's past. As the years passed, and he was beaten back by reality time and time again, Kaveh was forced to admit that his persistence born of wishful thinking was not always useful. It was only when he was rendered penniless that he finally understood the deeper meaning behind his friend's past words. A person who wished to ascend to the garden of heaven upon steps made of thin air would inevitably plant their feet on an empty stair and fall to their death. As a genius, Kaveh longed to belong in a crowd, subconsciously fearing separation from it - this was the difference between him and Alhaitham.
Returning to the matter of that table in the tavern, Kaveh was deeply shocked to see Alhaitham, who was coincidentally present to purchase some alcohol, in this place. Alhaitham for his part could immediately tell that Kaveh was in a very bad way. Having been oppressed by life for too long, Kaveh completely unloaded all his woes onto his erstwhile friend right there and then. After all, there was nowhere to hide from his problems, so what use was concealing them in front of the one friend with whom he had fallen out so acrimoniously? He would lament about a great many misfortunes that had befallen him, only falling silent when they left the tavern in the dead of night, and his eyes fell upon a place in the distance that he once called home. Alhaitham, on the other hand, listened intently to Kaveh's words, and seeing through him once more, asked him a difficult question: "How has realizing your ideals gone for you?"
Only reality can force a researcher to admit that they were wrong, but Kaveh did not know what he should consider reality. He yearned for a fantasy so perfect and beautiful that none need flee it, even if the price of this dream was losing himself. He still firmly believed that his ideals were in themselves not mistaken, and that the fault lay only in the methods used to achieve them.
People should not give up, for even if they are doing good in an attempt to make up for something, the results will still have meaning for some. Even if he could not enter that promised land of his ideals, that did not mean the radiance and the attraction of such a realm should be denied.
As for those phantasm-like realities, like how he found his homeless self living his friend's house by happenstance, or how this house, now under the Scribe's name, had been converted from that same research center the Akademiya had offered them back in the day, or how this excess academic asset would not have been turned into a residence at all after numerous transactions, had Kaveh not resolved to give it up... Or how, knowing full well that Alhaitham never did perform a good deed unconditionally, Kaveh would be plagued by guilty conscience and proactively mention helping with household chores, only to become saddled with all the domestic errands... These might be an annoyance for someone at a low point in life, but they are also proof the most unshakable part of one's past is a friend that will never change. Rationality and sensibility, language and architecture, knowledge and human feelings... Things that can never be integrated are what constitute the two sides of the mirror - indeed, of the entire world.”

No, Alhaitham isn't emphatetic. He's a fixer because he's a very logical person so he says what's wrong and what needs to be done as a matter of factly. Most of the time what he thinks is right just happens to align with what needs to be done for that person to better themselves, yet he couldn't care less about the other person's well-being. I know that everyone wants him to be this strict guy with a heart of gold, but he's really not. He still has people around him because he's just been socially lucky.. most of the people around him tolerates him because of his intelligence tho irl he's the equivalent to Sheldon.

Love how complicated yet caring these two's misunderstood personalities and relationship is.
Like, people really misunderstand these two and keep saying stuff like "Alhaitham doesn't care about Kaveh"
Kaveh has real problems with guilt and blaming himself for something out of his control to the point he doesn't accept it when people try being nice to him since he doesn't think he deserves it, he probably would have left if Alhaitham showed him kindness.
So I think Alhaitham really cares about his old friend/roommate/however you interpret these two, he's just cautious and calculating as always, making sure to treat Kaveh the way he unfortunately feels most comfortable even if it's not healthy.
But Alhaitham is smart, I can see this as a way of him doing this until Kaveh fineally learns to move on from his past and would be comfortable with accepting kindness again, yknow, baby steps.
But also, honorable mention for Alhaitham's obvious autism that makes things more complicated in their relationship. Autism isn't like in fairytails where it's just something quirky with no actual troubles. And it's obvious in this case too. Alhaitham may mean well- but he often can't express it the way normal, mostly neurotypical people would expect, and he's often called an asshole for his neurodivergent tendencies.
Honestly I was really curious on why exactly they were the way they are because to me it just seemed like Kaveh was some sort of tsundere, but after fineally hearing about Kaveh's story, it all makes sense, and it's really well executed in my opinion
And also that Alhaitham is naturally the kind of person who doesn't show care and affection upfront the way normal people do. We already know he cared about what happens to Nahida, even though he frames it as "I just want to keep my job and position just as it is and avoid change," and Kaveh has warned us in his Voicelines that Alhaitham will try to make us think he's a robot but he actually just has a complicated personality.
In Alhaitham's voicelines, he tells us that he took Kaveh in because he can learn a lot from Kaveh's perspective of the world which is so different from his own. But from Kaveh's character story we know that he listened to Kaveh's entire life story attentively and then offered him his house.
He cares.

He cares about doing the right thing (he went behind the Akademiya’s back many times as a result), and he also cares about the Akademiya and Sumeru in general (in his story quest, he said he was going to do something about the lack of motivation from scholars after the archon quest. And after the archon quest ended, at the feast he said the feast has unique meaning because people here feel genuine joy - and he seemed pretty happy about it).

If you read the public sign outside the tavern you can see that Kaveh stole a sizeable wine shipment from Alhaitham. Both of them frequent the tavern (with Alhaitham usually ending up with Kaveh's tab) but it really seems like they have a tradition of snatching drinks from one another.

His mother fallen in depression, ignored Kaveh, who only tried to support her, and keep her company. Kaveh lived the rest of his childhood in guilt, believing that his father died because of him.
Partly because of his guilt, he became a very altruistic person, who self sacrificed himself for others. Alhaitham realized it, and tried to warn Kaveh, but Kaveh wasn't ready to hear the truth.

I recently learned about Kaveh's lore and I've unfortunately had similar experiences, only with my brother, so I understand just how much pain he really feels inside, and I also know what it's like to try to compensate for the fact that you couldn't save someone from themselves, and do everything in my power to make sure that everyone around you feels loved so that they don't have to go through the pain you know all too well. We need to protect this man at all costs, he is too sweet and pure for this world and he deserves all the love in the universe.

Alhaitham had a quiet childhood. He had a loving grandma, who understood him, and since he didn't remembered his parents he didn't missed them. The only bad thing in his childhood was that Alhaitham was a bit lonely.
Kaveh's on the other hand is very sad...He lost a warm, and loving family, his mother ignored him, and left him behind, and Kaveh lived his days with crushing guilt. (he believed that his father died because of him) He have never wore a sad face around his mother, and worked hard to support her, and keep her company.
- After Akademiya and doing commissions, his hard work got destroyed for his commission for Dori, and although told to leave he used his own money to finish his commission knowing he wouldn't get paid, in the process he sold all his belongings(left by his mother) and went broke afterward. Then he literally falls into a state of depression

Idk abt genshin much, but from genshin vids heres my kavehs lore knowledge.
Kaveh's dad had went to a desert for a small mission but due to a sand storm, his dad died. Kavehs mother was so depressed by that death, she abbandoned kaveh. Kaveh grew up all alone and blamed hinself for everything. His mother, his father, etc. He soon needed a place to live, and he found Al haithem.
Kaveh supposedley hates being complimented and when hes praised because he things he dosent deserve it. Al haithem and his fight alot but kaveh dosent think much about it since its aggresive and stuff and he hates compliments.
Kaveh does hate himself *HEAVILY* but its hidden from all these cutscenes and stuff.
Note: I learned this from just plainley watching Genshin videos, theories, etc so it could be false theories ive talked about.

The way I absolutely relate to Kaveh, as a victim of emotional abuse. (Thankfully, with enough time and support I'm in a better place with people who care about me). Sometimes that's all we can do. Love others because we can't find it in us to love ourselves.

Oh yeah maybe it’s fake or it has another meaning, but this made me remember about something… If you were paying attention in the recent 3.6 event, at the moment when Kaveh wins the 2 points and screams: « YAYYYYY I WOOON I CAN’T BELIEVE I WON I’M SO LUCKYYY HECK YEAH » Ok not exactly that but close enough, there was right after that AlHaitham sentence « … » and looking at his character, he seemed to slightly look at the floor and because it’s animation and not « in real life » characters, maybe my guess is fake but he seemed a little disappointed or pensive making me think that perhaps he does not hope that Kaveh will leave his house and maybe he actually wants him to stay and I don’t know what would be the reason (Maybe they actually have interesting conversations or he’s basically like a cat meaning that he wants another person to be there but not necessarily interact much with them) OR he was thinking about how to rationalize the situation and make Kaveh see that it’s NOT DONE there are still points needed and compared to like Cyno that had 4 points, HE’S NOT ADVANCED… He had HALF the 1st place points so yeah I don’t know which option it is, but yeah these are my guesses. Please tell me what you think

I'm beginning to agree on the theory/headcanon with Alhaitham being on the spectrum. We on the spectrum are easily misunderstood as uncaring, self-absorbed, unempathetic, or even narcissistic.
In reality; he wants to connect, but struggles showing proper emphetic responses to someone as emotive, expressive (and micro-expressive) and unrational as Kaveh. No doubt Kaveh is putting him on emotional overload, and Alhaitham still tries his best, lives with him, helps him, etc; Transl. He cares A LOT.
