- demoing Strandberg’s new pickups, designed in collaboration with the renowned pickup designer Michael Frank. i'm using the "Original" set here, but you can also hear the prototypes of my signature set (based on these) all over my new album "Impulse Voices" (out November 27).
all guitar tones are from my signature Neural DSP plugin "Archetype: Plini"

They are definitely worth it! I traded my Kiesel headless for a Strandberg Metal and it was the great thing I’ve ever done.
@Flake28 the tone is in the fingers. No amount of gear will make you sound good on its own.

@@SHREDTILLDEAD I did an even trade for my Kiesel Osiris. It worked out great, as I paid $700 less for my Kiesel brand new as the Strandberg was brand new
I want to try one because of the very unique neck design. They're supposed to be the most ergonomic guitars every designed. I'd like to see if this is the case. I almost bought a Steinberg in the 80s but the big problem was the cost of double-ball end strings which are still outrageously expensive. Although they do make these adapters so you can use regular strings. I'm quite happy with my PRS and strats. Just curious about Strandberg.
If they keep this up, the whole world will be playing Strandbergs before we know it 🚀
Love it when it's not high output, sounds even in EQ and very woody sounding yet you still can hear that harmonic content ringing out.

How great would it be have Plini as your neighbor? Probably doesn't wail too loud at his home studio (seems like a considerate fellow), but you could probably crack a window every now and then and catch some sweet riffage coming over the fence.

Steve Vai,besides beeing a monster virtuoso, has great taste in music and genuinly likes to promote other talented people. Remember, he helped Devin Townsend to start his career back in the 90´s.

@@mattmurray07 lol they do it all the time! I remember Zakk Wylde praised Synyster Gates just before Zakk's album was coming out. Zakk's album was melodic, was good , reached 2nd in Billboard.
It's win-win for both Synyster and Zakk. Synyster was upcoming rockstar, he needed endorsement from giants, where as Zakk needed love of A7x fans.

This guitar sounds insane! Been listening to the " Every piece matters" and this guitar sound is absolutely my all time favorite!

The brilliant thing about that guitar is that they extended the scale for the bass strings at the bridge instead of the nut end. That makes this considerably more playable than guitars that do it at the other end or both ends, especially for people with smaller hands.

How do these compare to the Suhr pickups that you were using?
Wow, these sound tight..almost compressed from the get-go. Could do with a bit more top-end airiness IMHO, but that's a matter of taste of course.
For me, the more "airy" the pickup sound, the harsher the sound once it has any level of distortion. Try adding heavy distortion to a bright Strat and you'll see what I mean.
I like bright pickups for very clean, glassy Fender-type sounds, but for warm fat distortion, you should really dial it down.
@@distortingjack I agree with you wholeheartedly, but I'd rather have pickups that sound nice and airy by themselves and when the highs are too much...hey, the thing has knobs to turn that down. You can't add air, but you cán roll off some of the tone.
@@rienoceros I have found that the air is usually a resonant frequency in the treble, and the tone knob doesn't shift that much, meaning it's still harsher than a mellower voicing such as these pickups. It's a matter of taste, but if you want smooth tone, start with smooth, slightly dark pickups.

1:50 It says "using compressed DI", is it normal to record your DI with compression on it? How is this achieved and is it a good thing? I can record DI by going straight into my audio interface, but is it normal to put a compressor in front of that?
It doesn't matter if it's normal lol, if it's the sound that you want then go for it
@@jacob7225 I'm asking for along the lines that I was under the impression that the DI should just be the raw signal so you can reamp it however you want. I was actually curious if compressing the DI actually makes it more playable or something. I guess I could just try it and see, but I'd have to figure out how to route the signal correctly to get a compressed DI AND the tone from his Archetype plugin.
@@Aeolus_000 The Archetype Abasi's first amp has a blend knob that blends DI with the amp, so you could use that with the pathos to get the same effect.

@@jacob7225 ok, he's not going to use his macbook only for the rest of his life. But the plugin is advertised to fulfill the artists full needs - so I would have expected, that a over 10 times more expensive tool isn't needed for just such a homerecording environment.
