The wait for this video was certainly worth it! I love the little detail of Daisy leaving the milk van behind, leaving Thomas to take it along with his train. The fact that Wilbert's layout and engines are in such great condition is incredible, that would of course be impossible if not for the hard work and care provided by the volunteers. Well done to you all and I hope you all have a very merry and safe christmas! 🎄

I have literally waited 15 years to see this.
Growing up as a kid in Texas, I was intensely fascinated by the “English” model railways and loved the Thomas series. I read the “Thomas the tank engine man” book and followed the Talyllyn railways online, but video and pictures of the Ffarquhar layout were practically nill. (A testament to the expansion of the internet in recent years).
I had the same 5 photos of the layout that everyone else had but dreamed of seeing it in operation, so THANK YOU for posting this. How cool. 15+ years later, but immensely enjoyed nonetheless!!!

I'm so genuinely impressed by Awdry's layout, for something constructed in the late 50's when model railroads didn't have nearly as many advancements as they do now with motorised points, signals etc, it's incredible to see how he crafted them on his own.
Not to mention the sheer craftsmanship of making the railway actually portable in his new car too, Awdry really was a pioneer of model railways, I do think he'd be impressed with what we have now if he was still with us.

Have to say it pleases me to no end as a model railway builder (and a Thomas/railway series fan too) to see this up and running, it's what the good Reverend built it for after all.
Certainly a lot of action for a small layout, signals working up and down, goods and passengers coming and going, you could have fun for hours.
Mavis' growling motor brought a big smile, certainly sounds like a diesel.

I worked the original layout with Wilber and Rev. Teddy Boston at the Easter Exhibition about 55 years ago. Train movements were done by following a pre recorded tape. When Teddy decided it was time to eat he would speed the tape up which made operation a bit hectic.

the farqar branchline is my favourite branchline on the island of sodor. Its mostly far away from the hustle and bustle from the mainline. It would be nice just to sit there and watch trains go by
