    Very informative. Would have liked to see the actual operation instead of just an explanation i.e. the flow of electricity through the windings, the magnetic poles and the relationship.

    I'm watching this to learn more about my Lincoln SA200 welding machine. I think it's helping a bit, but it's still a lot to wrap my mind around because it has an exciter in the front of the armiture which has its own brushes and coils.

      This has an electromagnet which is much stronger than a permanent magnet. Most commercial generators and alternators us electromagnets because the permanent magnets aren’t as strong and tend to lose strength over time.

      like resistance is for current, reluctance is for magnetism
      reluctance = magnetomotive force / magnetic flux

    Reluctance means like resistance in electric circuit. Reluctance is applicable in magnetic circuit.

      The magnetic rotor is in an alternator, the generator has the armature coils spinning.

    I don't think you know what you're talking about exclamation point if this was a DC motor or a DC generator , you would have a permanent magnet. you just added more confusion to the world.

      Lol I think you're the one that doesn't know what you're talking about there friend. Most DC motors/generators use DC current excited magnetic fields, that is what the coils on the yoke are for. Those motors do not use permanent magnets.
