I am of the opinion that there is a ±2 year span around the "official" boundary of the generations, and anyone born in that window could easily fall into "the generation before" or "the generation after" the one they're supposed to be. Like, if you're born in 1964 but all of your friends were younger than you and you think more like people born in the late-1960s/early-1970s, you're not a Baby-Boomer, you're Gen-X. Conversely, if you're born in 1965, are the youngest child, and have older siblings and hung out with them and their friends, you're outlook could very well be more that of the Baby-Boom Generation, even though you're _technically supposed to be_ Gen-X.
Honestly I see boomer as more of an attitude than an age thing (I'm 28 so sort of younger millenial/older gen z), I've met plenty of people born in the baby boom who are not 'boomers', and I've met people younger than me who are.
@@John_WeissI completely agree. I know multiple people that are technically early Gen X, but were the youngest of their otherwise Boomer siblings, and they definitely act more like Boomers despite their age. Sadly I don't personally know any that act younger from that cusper group, but I'm sure they're out there.
My mom is one of those people who had kids because it's what's expected of young women. Like, routinely has told us she doesn't want us kind of stuff. But me? Today, I broke the curse. I am officially medically sterilized, so there's damn near 0% chance I will ever be able to carry on the abuse she subjected me to, or that her mother subjected her to, and her mother's mother, and her mother's mother's mother.
I was just talking to my partner about this. How I feel my parents didn't really want kids but had to because it was expected. I was told a lot that I was not planned, not loved, and all the physical, verbal, and subsequent mental abuse that goes with that shit. I decided to get sterilized because I didn't want to deal with possibly messing up an innocent life with the baggage I carry. Needless to say, I don't speak to my parents any longer because they chose to exclude me from their lives once I broke free from their neurotic hold.
Sadly I’m not too surprised, back then it seems like kids were just had to continue your bloodline or it was just expected to be done, not to love or care for them..
As someone raised by boomers, I was not at all surprised. 😂 My mom struggled harrrrrrd to be nice to me. She reminded me often how she had been treated by her parents (Latina mom. 💀) We were really the first generation that was treated like people.
the fact that reporter dissed a 13 year old who probably made more money than she does at her job is embarrassing and so rude. Like has she ever seen like Project Sekai tournaments? those people are crazy talented and I can just see her saying that about that too and it makes my blood BOIL. the kid probably played tetris with his dad/his dad loved it and to diss a grief coping mechanism is uhm.... a choice, especially when its a healthy one
If that was in the 70s then it would be the baby boomer generation as the kids as the last boomer year was 1964 unless teen pregnancy or the very early of the generation. Maybe that’s what messed them up and they were just continuing the cycle.
@@nicolethompson3782Considering the generation started in 1946 (so the oldest boomers would be 29 in 1975) A LOT of boomers would have kids already and need the PSA. Of course, their parents probably needed it too, so...
"As a mother, I'd diminish my 13 year old child's joy about achieving something nobody else has because I don't view it as a life goal" is not the take that lady thought it was. Also! He's a child! He doesn't need to be focused on achieving "life goals" yet. He should be allowed to just be a kid with "trivial" goals.
The ad for child care brought back memories of my parents saying "stop crying or I'll give you something to cry about". They could have used the ad.....
The hug your child commercial reminds me of the "It's ten o'clock do you know where your children are" reminder to find your kids and make sure they are safe before going to bed. I saw both of these types of things in the late 70s/early 80s.
I remember seeing the girl quoting WAP to the preacher on tik tok awhile back. She was on a team of people there to guide people to the planned parenthood and protect the patients from the Christian protesters. This preacher was incredibly obnoxious. He also had been arrested before this for what I think was inappropriate behavior with a minor. I think, I saw a video about it quite awhile ago. Anyways, love you both!!❤❤
I was a clinic defense volunteer for Planned Parenthood in DC way back in the early 90s. That guy spouting the Bible was completely tame compared to the huge crowds blockading clinics every weekend back then.
We've got a group in Glasgow called "Cabaret against hate speech" who turn out at transphobic events and sing Lily Allen's "f- you" 😂😂 drown out the hate with catchy melodies 🤘
Oh yeah along with the "have you hug your kids today" ad you had the "dont violently shake your baby" ad and the "Its 10 o'clock do you know where your kids are?" ads to remind ppl "Hey! You got kids remember??" They honestly didnt stop the last one until millennials started having kids
The baby shaking thing is different. They still give very strict advice about putting baby down in a safe place and take a break because shaking them happens when parents are totally sleep deprived and overwhelmed, not necessarily because they’re abusive psychos or something. There’s loads of support nowadays because it’s been recognised that even loving parents have the capacity to do that when they don’t have support and advice around it.
I live in south Mississippi... that man who thinks a driver's license is a suggestion is exactly what it's like to interact with people here. 23:23 found accidentally that loud, religious types can be shut down with the prayer of St Francis of Assisi (aka the hymn "Make me a Channel of Your Peace"). On the one hand, it's a PRAYER from an ACTUAL SAINT. On the other, it advocates for the opposite of these nutty folks "where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy." Total mic drop. Of course WAP is a good choice too.

11:27 My mom used to work as a tour guide. She'd stay at the same hotel as the groups she would guide. And she had to deal with the towel situations. People would come back to the hotel late from partying, and they would already put their towels on the chairs. She'd told them multiple times not to do so, but of course, they wouldn't listen. So eventually, one morning, she came to the pool and noticed that they had put the towels out once again. So she did indeed pick them all up and threw them right into the pool 😂

As long as we were home by the time the street lights were on, they didn't care where we were or what we were doing. 'Is it on fire? No? Is there blood? Is it a lot of blood? Only a little blood? Pfft, you're fine, get out & don't come home till dark!'
@@lapetitemorte6307 Yep. We roamed the neighborhood like a street gang as little kids 😆 My mom’s whistle could be heard in a four block radius. If she ever needed me, she’d just step onto the porch and whistle and I knew I had to go home.

As a reform Jew when Luxxypoos pointed out that the word abomination wasn't around in the times of ancient/Biblical Hebrew, I snapped harder than I've ever snapped before. YES.
As others have said, that "have you hugged your kids today" PSA came out in either '75 or '76. There was also another one in the 60's, "it's 10pm, do you know where your children are?" Depending on where they were, and whether or not the streetlights were on yet, they did not. When my mom was a child, her curfew was the streetlights. As long as she was home by the time they came on, she wasn't late.
I mean to be fair I'm early gen Z (born 2001) and it was the same for me as a kid. I'd go out to play with the neighborhood kids and our curfew would be when the streetlights came on. BUT to be fair, we also all had cell phones so there's a bit more security in knowing that they can call if there's a worry or I can call if something is wrong.
My sons are gamers and I’m glad they are. They’ve never run street, hung around with bad people, caused any trouble etc I’d rather them be at home than me sat at home worrying if they’re ok. They still game now they’re sorta adults (18 & 20), one’s training to be an a la cart chef, the other an electrician. Gamers can still go out and have a life.
"And what if the boys want to wear skirts, eh, eh?" was an actual reason why girls weren't allowed to wear trousers to my school. This was in the 1990s, truly the olden days.
I was so shocked at seeing the “did you hug your kid today?” That I actually teared up. I can’t tell if it was out of shock or genuine sadness but mouth agape and tears streaming😂😭

About the "they'll dig up the bodies" argument: 1.there's laws against disturbing the dead 2. sometimes some tiny rest of proteins survive in old bones but the older they are the harder to extract the proteins are. 3.Archeologically excavated people's genders are guessed based on grave goods... and inscriptions.

Omg Lux’s face during the 70’s “be nice to your kids” advert was HILARIOUS. Just absolutely gobsmacked. Lmao Who’s gonna tell them about the 10 o’clock commercials in the 80’s that reminded parents to CHECK THAT THEIR KIDS WERE FREAKING HOME. 😂 ‘Murica!
As a Puertorrican they want our people for war, want us fo vote for their gov, come to our island to have an easy life, and pay less taxes but in the moment we show our pride is a problem. 😅😂
He also mentioned how women only fairly recently started to wear pants...He does know that pants were originally only worn by one group of people and the Romans despised them so much for their pants that they drew them naked or in loin cloth. This is where your stereotypical image of a "barbarian" comes from. They were likely the inventors of trousers. Back when the old testament was written, essentially NO ONE wore pants. And they were still not common during the early days of the new testament.
I just have to say as someone who has a close family member that was involved in a TERRIBLE infamous police brutality case... I have ZERO issue with anyone that says anything about police officers, including him. Lux, no worries about offending people by giving perfectly legitimate criticism of a corrupt system that draws in people that create an endless cycle of pain for the people they are supposed to protect.
Roly and Luxeria, if you think the Hug Your Kids Today ad was bad...in America, Walmarts have signs when you leave the store reminding you to check your cart for your children and they use to advise parents to put something "important" in the back seat with your kid so you remember them...the world's going to Hell
I know it's not the same thing but if I've popped out to the store on my lunch break at work and bought something that needs refrigeration, I'll put my car keys on top of it in the refrigerator so I don't forget to take it home. 😀
My new response to boomers is gonna be "have you huged your kids today, have you sent them on their way with loooove?" MY POOR FRICKEN PARENTS this was aired EVERYDAY when my mom was a kid apparently.
Regarding the kid who beat Tetris: I love how you said earlier in the video that you don't like kids, bit still you manage to show more compassion and respect towards that kid than the news reporter did ❤❤❤ Both of you havethe kind of kindness and rationality about you that I would trust you to look after my kids (but I wouldn't do that to you, just saying that you seem trustworthy). Btw your energies, humour and personalities match so well that I keep thinking you must be twins 😂
That news lady pisses me right tf off. I am a mother of two young adult boys that started play Call of Duty when they were toddlers. I cant say enough about how much video games impacted my children in a positive way. And not only that, but no adult should ever minimize a child's accomplishments! Thats so wrong and shows what little himanity you have. That boy was so thrilled beyond words for an accomplishment people have been trying to achieve for decades. Her children must be so embarrassed.
Im from SE Alaska and only had two snow days, both times it snowed over 5ft overnight. Know what i do when i hear about schools closing because of a half inch of snow? I giggle and then i think about how the kids are probably gonna have a fun day out of school, and then i go about my day. I dont understand what getting upset about that would do? For people who never wasted any time they sure do waste a lot of energy on things that dont affect them🤷♀️
Luxeria always looks totally gorgeous but in this video she's utterly SLAYING! I don't know what it is about this one, maybe it's just the addition of the bat necklace, but I experienced SUCH a sense of style envy it's not even funny.
Can we just take a moment to say how pretty Luxeria is in this video? Honestly the makeup, the hair. Iconic. And i LOVE the contacts roly used today. hes looking so good as well.
I work with a boomer. My favorite she's ever said was, "I wouldn't make my kids wear seat belts if it wasn't for the law. We never wore them when I was little, and we survived."
An here I was thinking that getting some action in the bathroom stalls of a gay bar while dressed in nothing but leather straps was the absolute gayest thing anyone could do, apparently it's being thoughtful of your wife. Allegedly, stopping at the gas station to get some halfway wilted flowers in a plastic wrap and some expired chocolates is the peak of masculinity. At least according to Matt Walsh.
when I watch videos with the two of you, it feels like I'm hanging out with my two best friends. you both make me laugh and feel validated. also the music in the background is so nostalgic for me. it's crazy to think you don't even know how much happiness you both bring me!

"Have you hugged your kid today" has the same unhinged energy as the bumper that played every night before the news "its 10pm. Do you know where your children are?"
The answer to "when did this become a thing" is around the 1800-1900s but mostly solidified around the time right before ww1 and later reinforced after ww2 (at least the modern version, it's an on and off thing throughout history). It's a product of nationalism and the "ideal people", the white picket fence thing is the same thing. It was an ideal that was reinforced by propaganda during a period of unpresedented tragedy and extremes to be able to mold the population into easily defined categories. Where there's categories there's "us" and "them" which makes discrimination easier for everyone to spot and tell on so that the population could be "cleansed" into the ideal of the state. Basically it's bs.
13:25 Slogan was created in 1975. The commercial was probably close to the same time. By 1982, the only examples I could find cut out the first half and only kept the wholesome bits, so full original was definitely pre 80s.

I use a walking stick because i have EDS, but also im mobile enough that if it gets busy or someone else with grater needs gets on i will move no problem but i find it wild that I'm "too young" to be disabled like oh wow, would you mind telling my body that for me?
Kentucky native here and that PSA was just one of the weird shit we seen here in the early 80’s. Since my mom had 4 kids and was a single parent I lived on my nes. I loved Tetris. I have beat that game many times. I remember the first time I showed everyone there was an eleventh level because it doesn’t show up on the select menu. Aahh the good ol days 😂
Regarding preacher laws in America, my college (which is very openly pro lgbtq+, pro diversity etc) had a preacher that would come on campus and shout hateful things about these groups, and the school couldn’t remove him because of free speech 🙄
When i went to job corps in Maine in the 2010s, the homophobic governor came to do commencement at the graduation. Every queer student graduating that year refused to shake his hand, and the same-sex couples kissed crossing the stage. When i graduated the following year, it was after Colin Kaepernick was fired for his protests at games. So a large number of us took a knee or otherwise refused to interact in anyway with the national anthem. I hope the spirit of rebellion is still carrying on
As a mother I would just say that beating Tetris is amazing! What an awesome kid! And there's actual research about Tetris being useful to process trauma so he is demonstrating some amazing intuitive self care. Gaming is a big part of our family life as are other activities. We can do multiple things, funnily enough.
I did buy my girlfriend a gift well before valentine's day, a candle and a keychain, cuz she got me a keychain and she also likes candles. The keychain she got me says "I choose you and I'll choose you over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat I'll keep choosing you." and the one I got for her says. "You are my person. You will always be my person." The candle thing has "in case I don't say it enough, here's a candle to remind you. You're sexy. I appreciate you. I believe in you. I'm proud of you. I love you." And it smells like lavender, which I've heard is really good for anxiety
It was Ben Shapiro's wife that said getting wet was bad. (He read the lyrics to WAP in a video and admitted to it--his wife is a doctor). I get the mix-up though, Map Walsh, Shapibo and Chowder are all the same person.

You have to be registered to vote. they check your citizenship, address, and other qualifications... you also have to be registered with the right political party to vote in many US primaries, and you can't be a felon. So in a way, yes, you do need to register and pass an evaluation to vote... it's much more than you have to do to buy a gun via private sale in many states. source: in Arizona my friend bought an AR15 from a guy they met online in a Starbucks parking lot. 100 percent legal there and in much of the American southwest/south. literally harder to register to vote.
You dont have to pass an evaluation necessarily. You just won't be registered if youre underage or a felon (some states have exceptions). Phrasing it as such would imply that your local voting place is doing something very illegal.
@@HighAsHeckPriestess I guess I was implying the extra research and multiple registrations millions of people in the US have to do to vote in every election they are eligible for as an "evaluation". In my last state if you didn't register with your party of preference in addition to registering to vote you simply didn't get to participate in primaries. When I moved to my current state it took hours of research to figure out what I needed to do to make sure I was able to vote in every way I possibly could. There's a lot more to obtaining the right to vote in American public elections than your initial registration, and the extra work is complicated and requires extensive knowledge of our political systems, parties, etc., often much more than the average 18-year-old eligible voter has encountered. If the system is forcing you to possess extracurricular knowledge as a precursor to qualifying to vote, you're having to pass a test to earn what should be a right.

Also, now knowing that his father had passed away, there are LITERALLY STUDIES on how Tetris is good for treating trauma.
46:44 I always look around at people in Dr waiting rooms because I am nosey, and the last time I was at the Dr was for a neurology appt for my mom. The room was full of people my mom's age and older (my mom is a baby boomer, but she is not a "boomer"). So, first thing I do, as usual, is silence my phone and put it in my pocket (I have noise anxiety, so I don't want to do that to anyone else who might have it, and I have obnoxiously over the top phone etiquette when in public or with friends). Then I look around to be nosey, and I see every patient in the waiting room on their phone, except one woman who was on a tablet. That was the weirdest out of body experience I've ever had.

As someone raised by boomers, I was not at all surprised. 😂 My mom struggled harrrrrrd to be nice to me. She reminded me often how she had been treated by her parents (Latina mom. 💀)
We were really the first generation that was treated like people.
the fact that reporter dissed a 13 year old who probably made more money than she does at her job is embarrassing and so rude.
Least the internet actually got wholesome for 2 seconds to hype this kid up and support him.
Obviously she’s Lost The Plot !
I remember commenting on the original post "and what have you achieved?"
The ”have you hugged your kid today” ad played in 1975…. I was 3…lol…. I love the looks of horror from you both….
No idea why, but that doesn't shock me.😂
If that was in the 70s then it would be the baby boomer generation as the kids as the last boomer year was 1964 unless teen pregnancy or the very early of the generation.
Or how about the blurb that played on the TV at night "It's 10 o'clock, do you know where your children are?" 🤣

Fr tho these NICE ADDS need to be Yearly !!!
The way my jaw dropped when that news anchor decided to step on an incredible child's accomplishment.

Oh yeah along with the "have you hug your kids today" ad you had the "dont violently shake your baby" ad and the "Its 10 o'clock do you know where your kids are?" ads to remind ppl "Hey! You got kids remember??" They honestly didnt stop the last one until millennials started having kids
I just told my 13 year old about this, and he was HORRIFIED 😂
The baby shaking thing is different. They still give very strict advice about putting baby down in a safe place and take a break because shaking them happens when parents are totally sleep deprived and overwhelmed, not necessarily because they’re abusive psychos or something. There’s loads of support nowadays because it’s been recognised that even loving parents have the capacity to do that when they don’t have support and advice around it.

23:23 found accidentally that loud, religious types can be shut down with the prayer of St Francis of Assisi (aka the hymn "Make me a Channel of Your Peace").
Roly’s hard, yet silent laugh, with the wheeze is my favorite 😂

BUT to be fair, we also all had cell phones so there's a bit more security in knowing that they can call if there's a worry or I can call if something is wrong.
hahaha, When Roly is "Go grease lightning", and Lux looks at him like he's lost what's left of his mind...Perfection. Love you both!

That video was so utterly disgusting! Also how can people be so ignorant?
@6:14 - he's talking about not preeching in a dress. He knows that most vicars and priests wear robes, right? Full-length, dress-like garments?
He also mentioned how women only fairly recently started to wear pants...He does know that pants were originally only worn by one group of people and the Romans despised them so much for their pants that they drew them naked or in loin cloth. This is where your stereotypical image of a "barbarian" comes from. They were likely the inventors of trousers. Back when the old testament was written, essentially NO ONE wore pants. And they were still not common during the early days of the new testament.
If a priest has been particularly naughty they can be defrocked.
And now a lot of modern cars will remind you to check the backseat before getting out.
I know it's not the same thing but if I've popped out to the store on my lunch break at work and bought something that needs refrigeration, I'll put my car keys on top of it in the refrigerator so I don't forget to take it home. 😀

That news lady pisses me right tf off. I am a mother of two young adult boys that started play Call of Duty when they were toddlers. I cant say enough about how much video games impacted my children in a positive way. And not only that, but no adult should ever minimize a child's accomplishments!
They had to have a commercial to remember we even existed. “It’s ten O’clock. Do you know where your children are?”
I'll never forget it😂😂😂
