What if they back to the formula from the Wii to the Wii U (switch as well since it was ported from the Wii U) and make New super Mario land and new super Mario land 2?
The opening riff of this song is pretty obviously a variant of the Oriental Riff/Chinaman Lick, based in the pentatonic scale commonly used in East Asian and especially Chinese music.
I finally found it after soooo long I listen to this. I know I heard it and searched it too after watching one of Chuggaaconroy's vidoe in his lp of super luigi's galaxy. But that was waaay back in 2010, I yet still love this tune when he was playing it in the background speeding up his time in the game. But damn this really did brings back memories and I still cannot get the tune out of my head after I remembered it in 2015 and 2017 and now current year. The memories...
OML! THANK YOU! I couldn't remember why it was soooooo familier until I saw your comment! Thank you so much, now I finally recognised why it was soo familiar!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💝💝
that means the black keys, right? I find that's the quickest way to get that 'asian' sound. is that coincidence, or did the people developing the prototypical pianoforte want to include that scale because they'd heard asian music too?
The pentatonic scale is used in traditional music across East Asia, even in India. Composing music using different scales is effectively a shortcut to evoking the sounds of areas across the world. Nintendo does this with their desert themes as well, from the Harmonic minor scale and its modes, to the double harmonic scales.
I think it’s purely a coincidence because the keyboard instruments like piano having their layout based on the major scale, and latter on adding the notes that the black keys are for so there can be a perfect 4th or perfect 5th for every note possible. I don’t think it was until later that we realized that good melodies could be made using only the scales made by the black notes.
I always found it a bit out of place for enemies to be humanoid martial artists. I know it’s an Asian based level, but I doubt that would fly too well now with any Mario game unless it was more like a Bowser or alien minion.

This comment is beautiful. Not as beautiful as the song it’s alluding to, but it exudes truth.

This is the only version I've found with the correct pitch and sounds exactly what it would sound like on a Gameboy.
This is the only upload I've found that plays at the correct in-game speed, thank you so much for this
I thought I was going crazy listening to the other ones!
it literally starts with the oriental riff
As simple as it is, surprisingly good jam.
They need to bring back more from Mario 2 and Super Mario Land
So SO much YES..Wart and Tatanga were such a refreshing change of pace from Bowser this and Bowser that time after time after time!
In the style of Super Mario Wonder too

One of my favorite tracks in the game for sure. Melodic and fun, has a great vibe. Really one of the best soundtracks for the GB.
The music sounds very good. And it's a masterpiece considering this is for a Gameboy
Sometimes, i hear it in my head for no reason...
Sad that nobody remembers names like Sarasaland, Totomesu, and Zamasu anymore. The game might control clunky, but the world of SML was so unique
This was game my back in 1989 when it came out, I still hum this theme when I use my Martial Arts skills on somebody.

Isn’t it considered offensive now that’s probably why we don’t see it that much even tho Nintendo is Japanese and this game came out in 1989
Some of the best music you’ll find on the Game Boy
