i bought one this christmas also for me and the kids. emulator is a good way to test the game but it's not as fun as playing it anywhere and sitting.... down.... somewhere. also easy for the kids for them to fire up instead of totally messing around with Yuzu. to me it's going to be part of my hand held collection anyways.

Cutting grass in this game is genuinely fantastic.
Weapons respawn after every blood moon. All you have to do is mark where all the good weapons spawn on your map..

Honestly, I stopped giving a shit about my weapons. I knew there were going to be more. I didn’t waste powerful ones on some stupid bokoblins, but I wasn’t afraid to use them.
Same, take pictures of weapons and you can find them pretty easily!
pretty much. once i learned where the good weapons spawned, weapon managing became too easy. why worry about 1 weapon when i can go get 3 of them immediately after
But then that makes the weapons feel so unspecial and takes all the cool and joy out of finding a cool weapon

@@TempleTips. You should remember where they spawn after a bloodmoon. You can replenish them anytime so long as you put markers on the map when needed.
Imagine if Link was killed in the opening 2 hours and you had to play the rest of the game with the random Bokoblin that killed him.

This game is ok, but Skyrim it is not, Skyrim is the absolute best open world RPG I've ever played.. This is just ok, not nearly as good as people are saying..
lol Skyrim wish it was as huge, as open and had as much freedom as BotW! Skyrim feels pretty dated compared to BotW. Just the fact of how _everything_ in the word interacts with _everything_ creating this amazing chain effect, together with its amazinh physics engine, makes the world of BotW feel live, believable and interesting.

@weeb stick not really, Maximilian B-lined straight to the second form of the final boss' second to last form. Only weapons he got were ones he picked up on his way there and in the fortress. And no he's no Zelda expert either, it was his first Zelda game. So I'd say the speed run potential is extremely high.
current speedrun record is about 45 minutes I think.... (any% no amiibos) so yeah speedrunners wasted no time on this one...

@@Gameshunter92 nah, I went inn to to the castle really early inn legend mode and build upp terry town, why? the best shield and easy spot to farm the best weapons with good durability, so master mode isn't to hard, just the combat system with a little more piff to it. sinch enemies heals upp if you don't damage enough inn time + knowing the game inn and out can actully do master mode super easy, sinch I never had a problem with master mode I can't say this is close, and the meal thingy? not really an issue, thats more off a preferance, no food to gain more attack? no problem, if he want's a harder time go for it I say

All the “overrated ness” aside I LOVE THIS GAME! It’s a shame that Iwata passed during the production but it kinda adds more to the game for me...I love to think that somewhere in that rainbow he’s smiling and proud of the fact that sooo many people love this game. His death brung more power to this game (in my opinion). I’m not gonna say there isn’t flaws (because I honestly think a lot of things could be fixed or Improved on) but I don’t let the flaws ruin a great game.
R.I.P Iwata, your game was loved by millions and has become a cult classics for generations to come.

I bought a Switch recently. Almost 3 years later. Console cost more in 2020 than 2017 here in Sweden (though this is the newer one with better battery) I should've bought one at release...

They always make amazing games well besides 1-2 switch ignore that one they were tired in the office and drunk making it but in terms of their mainline games they always make hits and masterpieces this was a 10/10 for me some of the critiques he made i disagreed with tbh i think there should be durability imo cause it let's you experiment more and let's you learn what else you can use without a sword all the time and a bow

I can agree with the score. A massively wonderful game that has just a couple tiny spots that need improving. I played it at my brothers and it got me hooked and I went out and bought a Switch and this game plus one other. I don't regret my decision one bit.

He’s also admitted that he wasn’t excited for the sequel, doesn’t care for it, and just thinks it’s the same game with small changes.
So no review for Tears. Joe is letting a bias opinion on a gameplay mechanic and bias against them using the same map as being “lazy” hinder any plausibility of him of it letting go of those things and enjoying it.

Honestly... I've had a lot of near and dear gaming experiences.. I hadn't played video games for a couple years up until i played BOTW, and I still feel like it is the greatest game I have ever played in my life.

Btw with Joe's first complaint on the game they added remapping buttons to the Switch software now so you can switch the button mapping to your liking.

I've avoided watching a lot of your reviews because I mistakenly thought you only bashed on things, simply because of the "angry" in the title. But after watching a few of your negative reviews I realized the criticism is always on point, there is always acknowledgement of positive elements, and you don't just hate everything so I have checked out your reviews for better games. You've become one of a few handfuls of reviewers I go to for really unbiased opinions coming from people who know and love video games but also don't give them slack or overlook weaknesses.
it’s funny how Nintendo fixed almost every issue Joe had, frame rate, added Japanese tracks, etc. 10/10

What bugs me most about vote is that beating Ganon does literally nothing. You never get to see Hyrule rebuilt, or prosperity restored, you just stand there in a field with Zelda. It was a pretty steep cliffhanger on an already lacking story imo...

I have 150 hours in this game. And I just learned that you can shoot the cord of the lamps to get them to drop down and explode the barrels lol
I didn't realize you could shoot the rope, what I've been doing is using magnesis on the metal part and pulling it down really hard until the rope breaks and the fire causes the barrels to explode.
this is how you know the sandbox for this game is amazing. so many different ways to complete a task.

As much as I love this game, I can agree with Joe’s critical points.
Just a fair warning from a longtime fan of this series: If Breath of the Wild is your starting point and you're interested in playing more of the series, don't go into it expecting more games like this one, because it's so much different than most, if not all, of the previous entries. While many of the older games have stronger stories, soundtracks, and dungeons than Breath of the Wild, they don't have the pure freedom and ability to go just about anywhere like Breath of the Wild, the first game for NES notwithstanding. Some games get pretty linear too, and can have some issues with pacing and handholding... looking at you, Skyward Sword. Either way, if you're curious about more, I'd recommend A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo or Game Boy Advance, or The Wind Waker for Gamecube or Wii U. Ocarina of Time for N64 or 3DS if you're a little more forgiving of some of the stiffness of early 3D titles, because I can see how the game might frustrate those used to modern gaming.

Yeh I'd agree as much as i love the entire franchise i think a big reason this one is SO amazing is because it takes the best parts out of the older games while leaving a lot of the stuff we hated out of it... definitely need to give the OG about 2hrs of game play. skip zelda 2 altogether.. link to the past spend a few hours it's a ton of nostalgic fun.. ocarina of time and majoras mask are must plays if you can get past old patchy 3D.. and windwaker was a ton of fun... if you're bored and have a handheld minish cap while hokey was entertaining... all but the OG were pretty linear.. you had to do certain things before you could unlock others.. there was a bit if exploring in LttP and WindWaker but you kinda had to keep moving forward before you could go back towards the beginning areas and get some of the secret stuff... the weapons system in BotW while can be annoying especially to gamers initial introduction to the franchise... but after years and years of Insta-slaughter-everything-in-sight once you received the master sword, the breaking is pretty refreshing as it keeps you thinking about what to use next

I think people want him to review games that feel like gamble to buy, like the new Wildlands that got suspiciously high scores. People can always expect and trust AJ to do a honest straightforward review. That is why.
I actually think the weapon break system is a critical component to the game. Weapons break very often therefore you need to find as many korok seeds as possible to carry more and that in turns rewards you for exploring the world. I thought it was ingenious game design.
Makes me laugh when people complain that there's too little music in this game. The subtitle is "Breath of the Wild"--the wild, ie Nature, is part of the ambience of the game. When there is music it's in specific, isolated situations in order to heighten the action and add dynamism.
Additionally the sound design is integral to your survival, allowing you to assess potential threats and stay alert.

the music volume is still way too low in the game. You have to listen to the soundtrack on youtube to truly understand how amazing it is. For example the Morse code in Ruta's dungeon theme.

I found a video on why weapons break, can’t remember who it was by tho. Basically though it means you have to think about how your gonna tackle certain different situations and to stop dominant strategies which are a really big thing as a flaw in an open world.

Weapon durability in video games other than survival has to be the dumbest shit ever created in human history
i just started playing this on master mode, the hard mode that comes with dlc, and oh brother, the enemies heal instantly after u attack them all the way to full health, as well as BOSSES. i put up with it til i got to the first boss, used all of my weapons on him til the durability ran out, each was abt 30 damage. then eventually all my weapons broke, boss was at half health, then the mf started healing 😭😭😭 the durability + enemy healing literally makes it impossible to play on master mode. the dumbest possible combo they couldve ever thought of, not more challenging, just straight up impossible and annoying

I see it being a 9 for the re-use of Hyrule, but I also see it being a 10 for making weapon durability less annoying, better story and villain, huge vastness of the world, and vastly different mechanics. I hated the beast "temples". The environments/bosses were the same, completely unlike Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. It's a good game, but it lacks creative diversity the previous games had. Just my two cents.
Thank you very much for being so respectful towards my childhood (played A Link To The Past, Ocarina Of Time, Majora's Mask; almost every Zelda afterwards). And yes, Link has more or less personality depending on the game (in Wind Waker, his personality is way more pronounced for example).
Would love to see an Angry Review of Ocarina Of Time (though compared to today it'd lose out on BOTW gameplay-wise, so you'd have to try to see it from the end of the 90s perspective).

Enemy's just do that in this game, there always disappearing once they've run for long enough.
I remember something I had a lot of fun with was going directly to the castle after the tutorial world and going to the castle I snuck into the final battle and beat the first form of Ganon after what seemed like an hour being so excited only to realize that he had multiple forms
this review reminds me of why i respect his reviews so much, its a very honest review that tells the game's glaring issues without the peer presure of the general audiance

Serious update, a recent patch allows Japanese vocals and English subtitles. Much better in my opinion.
I don't know if you found it, but in the castle you can find Zelda's diary were she has written a little bit about Link. It says: Bit by bit, I've gotten Link to open up to me. It turns out he's quite a glutton. He can't resist a delicious meal. When I finally got around to ask why he's so quiet all the time, I could tell it was difficult for him to say. But he did. With so much as stake, and so many eyes upon him, he feels it necessary to stay strong and to silently bear any burden. A feeling I know all to well. For him, it has caused him to stop outwardly expressing his thoughts and feelings.
It might have helped more if it was shown and not hidden in a book, but there you go =P
Also, seeing how you really liked Breath of the Wild, I recommend Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword if you want to play more Legend of Zelda games :)

I used to really support the idea of Link remaining a silent protagonist, but when Mipha was sitting there pouring her heart out to Link, and he just stares back like a plank of wood *cringe*, Link really needs a voice actor if the writers want to put him in these more emotionally invested relationships. Or at least take from Dragon Age and let us choose dialogue.

U can remap buttons on ur switch menu and set presets specifically for Zelda…I use R for run so I can run jump and use joystick to always look when I run

I went into a Shrine, justg when I did, some black birds flew up because I came near, one was DIRECTLY at the camera when it froze to loading, and I could see how much detail was put into that bird alone. God damn it looks beautiful. So much effort put into this game. Amazing game.

Idabomb By freeze, he means that everything around you pauses when your player does an action such as opening chests or shrines. It is very convenient so that enemies don't attack you when doing your own things
