- After a fun boat trip at sea, Kimi Werner brings home the uku (grey snapper/jobfish) she speared while freediving to cook over an open fire for her mother. But first she must forage for the ingredients to make a macadamia nut pesto with lots of island flavors. This episode shows a lot of harvesting from the land and a little glimpse of the ups and downs of caring for an elderly parent in her final stage of life. Food, forage, family- it’s what keeps us going.

He’s going to grow up to be so healthy, not allergic to everything and anything, loving and respecting the the land and sea.. but also just a man filled with love and flowing out to others. I also live in the Bay Area, but there are a lot of Bay Area hippies just like her and raising their babies in similar fashion, especially the climbing, camping, and mushroom hunting community. Not everyone is a mean suburb mom :)

What my mom used to do when cracking macadamia nuts she would put a shirt over the nut before she hit it with the hammer and that would contain the nut from flying away

The other day my dive group and I went out to our grounds and I was so close to having my first uku. I was down on the bottom of around 40-50ft and I just saw this monster uku (about 7-8lbs which is a monster to me) and I get the shot and it rips off....
dang! I remember clearly my first uku. It took me a while to even get to the right grounds to see them! Good luck hunting!
