Whitecap's old over and back lift was bananas. Still in operation but can't ride over the gorge anymore. Great content Matt!!

Very interesting lift! That middle lattice tower is over 85ft high, crazy. We’ll cover that one in another installment :)

I hung my ski poles on the safety bar one time and bent them to a perfect 90 degrees at the first unload. Had a good long ride over the gorge to think about that...

The blue school bus return shuttle pre-dated the first gondola at Lutsen. You could catwalk to Moose Mtn but had to shuttle back.

One of the coolest vids yet, MZ! Love the story detail and archival content... first class content! And of course, seeing our local Little Switz featured is always fun. Keep up the great work!

you also should have done the amy's quad at boyne highlands as it was the first quad ever built, altho it was relocated to boyne highlands, it was installed at another resort first in 1967.

Honorable mention for Trollhaugen chair 3 (I think that's its number) that is a quad chair with both sides of the haul line on the same side of the tower. My understanding is it was originally going to be two lifts sharing towers, but that never happened. It is still the only lift I have ever seen with this arrangement.
The Up and Over at Whitecap is also high on my list. I am really bummed that they don't let you ride across the gap anymore. That was something I would do every time I went there.

Yes it was designed as a double quad (if they needed it) and they never needed to add that second lift. It would have been very similar to Brandywine’s double quad Borvig - we’ll cover some of these in another episode similar to this one :)

You don't seem to have many loading carpets on your chairlifts out there, but get this: In sierra nevada ski resort in spain they have a chairlift with an UNLOADING carpet - its designed to prevent beginer skiers from having accidents when offloading chairlifts.

Awesome video. You forgot about Brandywine’s lift 1+2 Borvig double quads that share towers. Basically a split 8 pack I think it’s the only one of its kind

We’ll definitely be doing a few more of these- plenty of great lifts to talk about 🙏

Didn't the original gondola at Lutsen originate at Wildcat, NH?
Does Whitecap still have that insanely high double chair - I've never ridden it, but sure have heard stories!

Lutsen original gondi came from Loon. Installed in 1966 at Loon then sold and moved to Lutsen in 1988.
Yup, the double still operates but Whitecap is no longer allowing riders to ride over that valley section any longer as it is a nightmare to evacuate if needed.

You can NO longer ride the Hemlock chair at Boyne Mt. If you pay an extra $25, you can only use it to access the SkyBridge walkway
