Yeah but she has stated many times that all the things she buys she either keeps herself or she donates to people in better need for those items or clothes so nothing she is purchasing is going to waste or damaging the environment by throwing things away! So her buying fast fashion doesn’t really affect the situation!

Just wanted to remind people and say: reduce, reuse and recycle in that specific order. By far most of trash that gets collected for recycling doesn't actually get recycled, but ends up being burned or gets shipped off to less wealthy countries where it ends up in the oceans. So first: reduce you waste. That said, anything you do to help the environment is a step up :)

I keep containers to use as storage containers. Like sour cream or margarine containers for example. They’re great for storing leftovers and you can get a lot of use out of them. Plus you can give them away when people take food home and not care if you get them back.

I love your videos so much. I just wanted to say that in the process of reduce, reuse, recycle REDUCING your waste is the 1st and most important step. This is so we can create less demand for wasteful things and, unfortunately, recycling programs are not always the most effective! It was recently found that about 90% of plastic ends up in landfills. That statistic even includes plastic THAT WE PUT INTO RECYCLING BINS!!!! I hope that by making this video and working with this project we, the consumers, can truly see the impact we put on our ecosystems! ❤

If people don't recycle, WHY NOT?? It takes literally 2 minutes to separate your trash. Here in the UK you get fined for putting the wrong items in the wrong recycling bin.
All local councils/government in other countries need to get on board, and have ALL recycling picked up kerbside, like we have here.
When I 1st lived in Germany in '92 they already had recycling bins at home, and people used reusable shopping bags. Glass bottles etc were easily returnable at the grocery store (for a cash refund) too! It gave you money off your groceries that day, which was great! (As well as helping the planet). There's no excuse in this day and age for NOT recycling! 🌊🌍

I still do recycle, but we do it as a small group of volunteers, we try to find the recyclers ourselves. But it's extremely inconvenient, we have to store huge garbage bags in our apartment till the recyclers can take them. I just wish it was easier and I wish more people would get on board :(

Coming from someone in the US: some places charge a lot to recycle, so people don’t. But I mean recycling does very little. Especially in the US where I’m pretty sure nobody is currently taking our recycling. Like yes it’s a great effort, I’ve been recycling before people starting telling us to. But if you start looking into it most plastics aren’t just aren’t recycled. So for the US all our recycling is just being piled up or burnt or just thrown into landfills.

In Victoria BC we have to recycle everything including our food waste. When I moved to Winnipeg 4 years ago, one of the biggest adjustments that I had to make was throwing out coffee grounds and egg shells and other food scraps. It still bothers me. All that potential compost, tossed in the landfill. What a waste!

    • @kathygrass
      @kathygrass 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Start your own compost! You just need a bin! I just throw my coffee grounds in my garden! Also, if you have a pet, you can bake and then grind up your egg shells and add them to your animals food for some added calcium and nutrients!

Okay I did some quick math, please correct me if I'm wrong:
On their website you can see the following statement.
"It’s estimated that there are 200M tons of plastic already circulating in marine environments, with an estimated 11M tons entering the ocean EVERY YEAR."
So 11M tons of plastic each year.
Let's break that down to pounds shall we?
1 metric ton equals 2204.62 pounds.
This means there is 24,255M pounds of plastic entering the ocean each year, with about 66.5M pounds entering each day.
The goal of this campaign is 30M dollars which will get 30M pounds of plastic out of the ocean.
That sounds a lot but it isn't even HALF the amount of plastic that gets put in there every DAY.
So yes this is a good cause overall since they are bringing light to this huge problem.
But just donating some money one time is not gonna change anything really. We all need to consume less. We are wasting so many resources unnecessarily. Yes it's true that big companies are the ones producing most of the garbage and they have to be hold accountable for that. But don't forget that they produce that to fill the demand for consumers like us. So we can't just shift the blame on to them all the time. Change starts with each and everyone of us.

I think it’s important to mention that even if recycling centers don’t re use everything there’s a higher chance of decomposition of many thinks recycled like cardboard and paper than something like styrofoam and so by recycling more it encourages corporations to switch their materials to better versions and cut out the worst of it all!!!

Mia, I really love how much you’re focusing on recycling and it’s SUPER important, but this video is super ironic given that the goal of the campaign is trying to reduce ocean waste and your entire channel is the epitome of consumerism.
Recycling is important, but REDUCING is the ultimate goal. Recycling will do nothing to help ocean life in the grand scheme of things if we don’t stop shipping products across the world on big cargo ships and carrier planes, not to mention the amount of waste involved in fast fashion and packaging.
I know your heart is in the right place, and I hope to see a change on your channel in the future that focuses on less consumerism. ♥️

Please keep in mind that her fans are asking her to buy from fast fashion companies. They ask because they want to buy from them, but don't know if it's worth the money. Mia reviews it so people don't waste their money. She's actually reducing the amount of fast fashion being produced. And she absolutely doesn't over-consume. Almost everything is donated, and she doesn't so frequent hauls, which is where the problem lies.

I lived in Florida my whole life up until almost a year ago and there is no infrastructure for recycling and it's definitely not prioritized. You'd have to either pay to have recylicing service (not really an option for apartments and they only give you a small green container anyway) or go out of your way to drop it off at a facility somewhere. I live in the PNW now and it's way more of a priority here, which makes it much easier! Our apartment complex picks up our recycling and there are containers on-site, but there are recylicing drop-offs all over the place, and even clothing donation boxes! Florida just sucks in general tbh and I hope you can escape lol

Its not just about raising money or just recycling your home waste......its also about hounding governments to stop just paying lip service to the pollution problem. Im in Australia, we have kerbside recycling collection and yes, some people are still slack and dont recycle properly......but the fact is, a lot of stuff that IS correctly recycled by individuals ends up in landfill anyway because the effort isnt being put in at higher levels to ensure that it is actually recycled after it leaves the kerbside. Im not even going to get into how disgusted I am at our government for its current lies, net zero by 2050 but they dont actually have any real policies about how theyre going to do that..........but if we want to clean up the oceans, we need to also make sure that theyre not going to just get crapped up again.

: middle step between cleaning the oceans and recycling, cutting down on consumption, one time use items, and requiring companies to switch to biodegradable packaging. Why? Because since less people recycle than over consume, recycling alone and cleaning the oceans after the fact is not enough.
