A very subtle but powerful show of might from Ruyi. Promoting Jia to Noble Consort is a reminder that Ruyi is empress now and can take your title as easily as she has given it. Leaving Jia kneeling for a moment while she chats to Noble Consort Chun is also a reminder that Ruyi is in control of the harem now. The earring bit was a little more brutal, but apparently, that’s all Jia understands. Ruyi had to speak to her in her own language. Too bad she still didn’t get it.
I like to watch their face experession:
Suoxin: Looks like she wanted to strangle Jia
Ling: Absolutely evil smile I spot there
Yu: Calmly watched Jia being hurted
Chun: Laughing 😂😂
And Jia's pikachu shocked face when she realised Suoxin was there and watched her being humiliate by Rongpei 😂
Also Consort Shu had a smug look on her face along with Concubine Ling as they watched Rongpei force the earrings on Jia.
I love how Ruyi leave Jia bending and ignores her for a while before telling her to stand
Its funny all of the ladies are watching and being amused by Jia's and Ryui's interaction 😂
I love the little detail of Suoxin not using Jia's official title when referring to her. She uses Jia's common name.
I noticed that too. Suoxin lost all the respect she's had of that woman.
It's her tiny bit of revenge. Not much, but better than none, I always say.
Because I do not understand Chinese, I missed that subtle diss.
This is one of my favorite scenes.
Actress was not harmed in this filming (they replaced it with thinner earring and second one with clip on not to cause pain). It was all acting. Very effective though

Jia had it coming!
That doesn’t compare to breaking Suoxin’s legs.
It certainly does not but it's not like Ruyi can break her legs back. She'd probably like to, though. This gift mocks and belittles Jia, and rubs it in her face that Ruyi is the Empress and Jia is below her. A very calculated move that will hurt Jia as much as she can.
