Well, this is the sort of pressure women feel because, yes, it's an aesthetic thing run amok and absolutely not a sanitary thing. It's actually more sanitary, especially for women, to leave some hair because it protects the areas, that's what the hair is for. But unfortunately the stigma against women's body hair has moved to certain parts of the gay community and I can't for the life of me understand that.
Do people understand that the trend to shave leg/other hair was started because razor manufacturers had to come up with a way to sell more razors? It's a marketing technique that for some reason people think has some viable reasoning behind it, it doesn't.
I also just think men who want everything shaved need to grow up and learn to deal with adult bodies or perhaps they're not mature enough to be having sex. If a guy's response is "ew" to HAIR, that's more of a turn off because I'm an adult and I don't need to feel like the guy I'm fucking might as well have skid marks in his underwear for how immature and absurd he'd be acting.
But really, you shouldn't have any trouble finding people to fuck who don't give a shit and those are the people worth your time. No one has the right to sit there and dictate what you do with your body, ESPECIALLY people unwilling to do any of that themselves.

Funky, I think it's a hygiene thing. Hair traps moisture and odor. I don't expect a man to shave his butt hole, but his anaconda area needs to be trimed or shaved. No one wants hair in their teeth either when they go downtown, it ain't floss. I also suspect some men gay or straight want their partners stuff to be shaved so they can see the essence of it....maybe it's more a turn on to see it bald. It's really a personal preference. I am a very hairy black guy and I'm not about to shave every day. I will trim every now and then. I do not like bumps. And my hair does not hold odor because I stay clean and use the correct products. But I also have a very manageable and great hair texture. No naps.

I remember not knowing about shaving and was body shamed for not shaving under my arms. I was a freshmen in college. Hair gets musky smelling and causes an additional odor to your normal smell. Socially acceptable things changed over time and always remember, this started with assimilating to do and be like white people and over time, there developed an expectation as generations followed. Younger ppl than me think it's gross. As a medical professional, I advise to keep some hair in the genital area if you're a woman. It's there to protect. As we all know hair holds odor so many shave for that reason. In regards to men, to me hair there is a sign of masculinity (my personal opinion). There's a cream product by Avon that removes hair it doesn't burn you leave it on 5 minutes you take a washcloth with warm water and you just take it off then you take the shower and finish it and you'll be fine I find it to be cleaning up more safe and it just works wonderful so that'll be something to think about instead of what you are using now
