Making Puerto Rican Sorullitos de Maiz At Home - Hispanic Heritage Month Special

  • Welcome back to our Dining Traveler Cooking Series! For this special #HispanicHeritageMonth edition, we're traveling to our Latino friends' homes to cook together and hear about their experiences living in Europe. In this episode, we head to Den Bosch, Netherlands, to my friend Almi's kitchen to cook a classic Puerto Rican snack, sorullitos de maiz (fried cornmeal rolls).
    Almi uses her tia's 'Sorullitos de Maiz' recipe, which is simple to whip up and just as delicious. Almi, hailing from Puerto Rico, graciously shares the tradition and love as she makes these decadent, crispy cornmeal sticks. With ingredients easily found at your local supermarket, this dish is accessible, allowing anyone to bring a taste of Puerto Rico to their table.

    Recipe for Sorullitos de Maiz
    2 cups of water
    2 tsp sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 tbsp butter
    2 cups of cornmeal
    1 cup of finely shredded parmesan cheese
