Because, even in Anime, Majority Villains are actually liked more than Protagonists. Antagonists actually make the show better than Protagonists, in my opinion. @Happy thoughts mostly because of how much everyone was expecting for how long it took just for them to be really lazy with the whole thing. there's no real story and no one knows the true meaning of a guardian or know what they're training for, there are png props everywhere (even in the first episode), it took like a few years I think just to release and the "bad characters" are more likable and interesting than the main characters.
Things I know about High Guardian Spice: 1) Magic School 2) Main characters are named after things I toss on steak when I feel fancy. 3) The A in Amaryllis stands for amazing 4) Amaryllis and Slime Boy are literally the only two characters I care about

So, wouldn't chopping through the maze with an axe and magic be faster than following a compass. They don't even have a map, so the compass is useless. (Also, why is the bully character axe girl more likeable than the main elf character?)
The Compass isn't entirely useless. They state in the show that to the north is the exit, so in general they are trying to puzzle their way to said exit. A map would kinda void the whole maze idea - not really a perfect solution but I can kind of get the goal. Had to learn how to use a compass in Boy Scouts as apart of wilderness trekking/survival stuff, it's a useful skill when going out in the woods alone.
Amaryllis lowkey makes the other characters more enjoyable just by being around them, especially Thyme. She brings out new sides to them that are actually very interesting.

That part where the karate teacher switched the heirlooms weapons without the students permissions, nor at least considered their feelings or burdens to 'em was horribly bad written. At that point when the weapon is switched, these 2 could've had consulted eachothers about using eachothers heirlooms, instead of immediately going with it. The femboy could've asked the short girl "can I trust you to take care of father's axe?" or something. The girl would smile and agreed to it as long as he does the same to her father's heirloom rapier, and both made their choices. That's when they'd form a strong bond of friendship than anyone in the show.
Doesnt even have to be that dramatic. If, instead of making the weapons heirlooms, they simply had the teacher ask: "Your father used an axe too." that would instantly characterize Snapdragon's personality about wanting to be like their father. Then instead of straight up switching their weapons, an actual teacher would guide the student to coming up with their own answer: keep striving to use the axe, or find another weapon that fits better, and build on that throughout the episode. Juicy character development potential right there. It ties into the theme of identity too. There is bad writing, then there is HGS writing.

From all the clips I've seen of this show, it honestly seems to be more like an animated web show made by inexperienced people rather than a professionally studio made show. The thing is that the writters suck so much are telling and defining what a good character is, that when they try to make main characters, they made bland one, and for them, what is "mean" and "bad" in a character is actually enjoyable, and unique.
Liitle did she know, the girl was granted the Axe of Keraunos, a weapon that puts its user in a berserker state, making its holder insane with rage. She would later kill every single member of the High Guardian Academy in her bloodthirsty trance as she was too powerful to be contained. The authorities only were able to restrain her once she had died from exhaustion. Truly a horrible sight to see.
Please don't tease me with such amazing alternate endings. The only tragedy I see here is our poor axe girl was subdued by her own awesomeness. R.I.P Axe girl, you were too good for this series
Even her voice acting is more decent than the other characters. You could tell her VA was having fun instead of just awkwardly forcing emotions out on a mic.
1:26 This scene actually isn’t too bad. Allows them to bond somewhat, but my only problem is how bland elf girl is. Her only personality trait is “tired” and while that can be a fun personalty trait it shouldn’t be her ONLY one. I feel this scene would have been better if elf girl got a kick out of axe kid being trapped, alluding to a sense of humor she might have. And in a somewhat happier state, her and axe kid begin to bond. Would feel more realistic, as if elf girl is someone who is always hiding her emotions behind a tired teenage look, it would mean axe kids antics and bright personality got her to come out of her she’ll just a bit. Woulda been nice is all, sorry for the rant.
the art on this show isn't always terrible, but the way the teacher at 0:10 just stands there for 4 seconds with unblinking eyes and no emotion makes me take that all back
Why did the writing explain what literally just happened? Elf girl repeats the same question twice, dragging out the moment, and then axe girl, constrained by very thin vines (she can lift an axe... where did her upper body strength go?), clarifies the that the maze is magic. All she needed to say was, "Apparently, the maze doesn't like being hacked at" and then move along. And don't get me started on the affair bit... I physically contracted a little. It's bizarre how uneventful this feels for what's supposed to be magical training. Points, however, for the, "I... feel... alive!" bit, as well as axe girl's laughs in general (her reaction to the "...she usually just talks about murder" was enjoyable). Goodness.
As much as I abhor the shady business practices behind this show. This series "might" have been salvageable if it wasn't made by out of touch and mean-spirited writers. When your jerky side characters like Axe girl, Stoner Slime boy, Douchebag Blonde boy and Oblivion girl are more diverse in personality than your main four protags then you know you hit rock bottom.
"Oh this is your family weapon passed down to you? Yeah, let's remove it from your family and give it to someone else despite probably having access to different weapons"
Gotta admit, Armirylas and Thyme's relationship is really interesting. I'd love to see it grow from here, with them possibly having a frenemies bond and helping each other out with their problems, finding that they have more in common than they thought. Too bad it's never gonna happen.

The thing that makes her comedy works for me is that it's a gag that supports her character whether it's serious or not, that "usually, she just talks about murder" at the end was better than all the other "jokes" that they made with the main cast
Its a shame because the interaction between Amaryllis and Thyme was actually quite nice and established a foundation for a relationship, the dialogue just sound like it was written by an AI just introduced to human language.

From all the clips I've seen of this show, it honestly seems to be more like an animated web show made by inexperienced people rather than a professionally studio made show. And that just blows my mind.

Neither the less, this is the best clip I've seen of the show, it is actually quite fun and I like the character interactions for once.
It also seems to be a mockery of the anime genre by overusing tropes which add more of an awkward tone to the show. Simply put, it's an out of touch western persons idea of what an anime is
Also lots of aspects of the show seem to be full of itself. There's ton of positive intent but not handled in a positive way, if that make sense. The quality of the show overall comes off as if it has something to prove rather than proving itself.
Looking up who made this show gives you a perspective of why it sucks ass 90% of the thyme (bad joke, I know)

But she didn't say anything bad about gardeners Thyme, don't be defensive with axe girl, she has more emotional depth than the protagonists
The thing is that the writters suck so much are telling and defining what a good character is, that when they try to make main characters, they made bland one, and for them, what is "mean" and "bad" in a character is actually enjoyable, and unique.
Liitle did she know, the girl was granted the Axe of Keraunos, a weapon that puts its user in a berserker state, making its holder insane with rage. She would later kill every single member of the High Guardian Academy in her bloodthirsty trance as she was too powerful to be contained. The authorities only were able to restrain her once she had died from exhaustion. Truly a horrible sight to see.
Please don't tease me with such amazing alternate endings.
The only tragedy I see here is our poor axe girl was subdued by her own awesomeness.

Even her voice acting is more decent than the other characters. You could tell her VA was having fun instead of just awkwardly forcing emotions out on a mic.

This scene actually isn’t too bad. Allows them to bond somewhat, but my only problem is how bland elf girl is. Her only personality trait is “tired” and while that can be a fun personalty trait it shouldn’t be her ONLY one. I feel this scene would have been better if elf girl got a kick out of axe kid being trapped, alluding to a sense of humor she might have. And in a somewhat happier state, her and axe kid begin to bond. Would feel more realistic, as if elf girl is someone who is always hiding her emotions behind a tired teenage look, it would mean axe kids antics and bright personality got her to come out of her she’ll just a bit. Woulda been nice is all, sorry for the rant.
But that would imply _understanding_ the characters, which people have been saying that these writers don't know.
the art on this show isn't always terrible, but the way the teacher at 0:10 just stands there for 4 seconds with unblinking eyes and no emotion makes me take that all back

Why did the writing explain what literally just happened? Elf girl repeats the same question twice, dragging out the moment, and then axe girl, constrained by very thin vines (she can lift an axe... where did her upper body strength go?), clarifies the that the maze is magic. All she needed to say was, "Apparently, the maze doesn't like being hacked at" and then move along. And don't get me started on the affair bit... I physically contracted a little. It's bizarre how uneventful this feels for what's supposed to be magical training.
Points, however, for the, "I... feel... alive!" bit, as well as axe girl's laughs in general (her reaction to the "...she usually just talks about murder" was enjoyable).

Unfortunately, her laughter at the end was from another clip, and she wasn't reacting to what he said.
As much as I abhor the shady business practices behind this show. This series "might" have been salvageable if it wasn't made by out of touch and mean-spirited writers. When your jerky side characters like Axe girl, Stoner Slime boy, Douchebag Blonde boy and Oblivion girl are more diverse in personality than your main four protags then you know you hit rock bottom.
The team of writers are all women, so that's why there's a ton of hate to anything white cis male, lol.

Its a shame because the interaction between Amaryllis and Thyme was actually quite nice and established a foundation for a relationship, the dialogue just sound like it was written by an AI just introduced to human language.
