From a TV professional that’s recently fallen in love with BJJ, I applaud the level of production value of these. Great camera and sound quality, and I never feel bogged down with terminology. Very polished and inclusive video series. Keep up the great work.
Agreed. These videos are expertly made. Perfect amount of information that is super digestible for beginner/intermediate level people such as myself. Thanks Jordan!
Great videos and instructions! When I'm rolling, I always have in mind "break grips", "don't let them control the head", "awareness of what the other is doing", "where the head goes the body follows" and many other key messages you often transmit. As a white belt, I'm still missing a lot of technique, but it's working great for surviving 😆
He mentioned in one roll, break grips immediately, but not all grips are useful. So you might consider also taking a moment to evaluate if the grip is relevant. When I roll with a black belt friend of mine, he takes grips in a way that are just traps. The grips sometimes are totally pointless, but then I reach to break and open up vulnerabilities and get my ass kicked. Hehe
Man... the break grips was the most impactful tip I finally solidified from Jordan. Thanks for everything and all of the incredible videos/content. Keep it up! Sincerely, ever improving blue belt :)
Wow, mind blown. As a beginner (1 stripe blue belt) it seems like I have just a few techniques for most position. But as my teammates become more proficient and I become more predictable my techniques aren't as reliable. After watching this video I see my pretty much only half guard escape looks like a good opportunity to turn it into a butterfly sweep. I'm burning this to memory now and hope to try it soon. Oss!
@Amayerican Mixed Martial Arts Really, I don't know. I've always heard blue belt referred to as "still a beginner belt" whereas purple belt is an expert. I'm just trying to give context.
Great video. Thanks for putting this out. I've loved playing Butterfly for years and this is a very concise fundamental breakdown. Your channel is killing it!
Just had a butterfly guard seminar today. This is a great video to repeat what was taught to us. Helps especially with remembering some of the details I had probelms with.
Can not wait to begin my journey in BJJ next year. Recovering from an ACL tear currently. Soon as it’s fully back to good I’ll be taking it up. Hopefully learn from these videos prior
While injured, I got some old pants that are too small for me, filled them with pool noodles and stuff to make a training dummy, then did the same for an old collared cotton shirt. I can sit on my back, close my eyes and review stuff with physical movements in a low risk environment at home.
Thank You so much. The details and the way you speak about them are so relaxing that I don't even want to skip the video. That's forces me to study. Wow!
Really enjoyed this tutorial. I love butterfly guard so much and this gives some really things for me to work on, especially the guoilloutine/darce chokes.
God bless Nikki. Also, butterfly guard scares me. It feels like it’s so close to getting passed. If I find myself in butterfly guard, I try to get to closed guard because I don’t want to get passed.
Imo better to be passed than sit around in a static position fully exploiting the absence of strikes from the sport and making the top guy awkwardly escape. :' (
@MrCmon113 dude if youve got an underhook hes not striking you, and if hes punching you with the other arm, perfect opportunity to sweep (or get both underhooks). Its only a "static position" if you're too gassed, out of shape, or bad to make it active
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu I’m studying for my blue belt test right now. A video briefly going over all of the techniques YOU expect someone to know for something like that and why would be awesome!
@@x_Isaiah_x_ we'd love to man! We will make that happen one day 100%. Plan is to build up the channel enough to get seminar offers around the world then do travel vlogs and feature the gyms too. Will definitely happen in SoCal one day!
Super awesome butterfly video !! Those elbow sweeps are 👌😅 very effective!! I love halfguard butterfly sweeps they are my go to being a small person 👊👊
I only recently learned the correct name for this is "shoulder crunch" butterfly sweep, but I'd also been doing it for years now. It's the only move I can hit against someone who outweighs me by 100 lbs so it definitely is powerful and extremely scalable against big opponents. Threaten the armbar and keep getting the side angle even if you don't know how to do it, and they'll practically sweep themselves when trying to fix the angle.
Love the videos, very informative and the slow-mos make it easier to notice the details in each of the movements. What would be your recommendation on how a novice white-belt can practise these outside of class? Keep up the great work 🙌🏻
That was what i was looking for! Thanks Jordan! Just trying to start utilizing my legs in an efficient way while rolling, since i tend to be weaker than the guys i roll with so this really helps out!
@ 4:09 you can also go to rubber gaurd, you can go to a triangle from rubber gaurd from there as well. I have done that on my channel. You load up the sweep and throw up rubber gaurd then gradually force the position for a triangle
Love the butterfly guard, but I seldom get here because I always prefer to get my opponents/ training partners into closed guard. Only reason being I often make the mistake of not playing on my side as much as is needed. The sweeps or reversals fail or don't work and I end up getting passed or out worked. You did a beautiful job explaining the core concepts of the guard, as well as giving us prime examples of what can happen to both people working in this sequence. Thanks again Jordan, and thanks Nikki!
Love this! Just started and I really need a way to analyze after class. When possible could you break it down by steps? Ex. 1- grab wrist, 2- secure elbow, 3- scoot your but to one side etc? This would be great for a newbie like me who is trying to make sure I practice full break down of move. Thanks again!❤❤❤❤❤
