Thunder Road gave its final race on Sunday, July 26 after 39 iconic years. To celebrate this classic wooden coaster, we asked fans to submit their favorite pictures, which are featured in the second-half of the video. Thank you to all the fans who submitted photos.

7 years (almost 8 years) since this beautiful coaster was tore down, never got to ride it it, wish I could've but at the time I was about maybe 4 when they tore it down I'll miss you thunder road ❤️

I sadly never got to ride it, I was always too short to ride but, I still admired its presence every time I went to carowinds. I had told my mother the day before it closed to let me on it, I can't belive it had to go. We love you even 4 years later!

Awesome to see that initial footage of Thunder Road in its original colors in all its glory. It was a sight to behold! In this era of "giga" coasters, the old ones like Thunder Road tend to fall on deaf ears. But for those of us who knew it from its beginning, its magic will be our little secret.

Thank you thunder road. My dad, mom, and i all rode this, calling it "Our first big roller coaster." I know im super late, but my dad rode this in the 70's, my mom rode in the 80's, and i rode in 2012. This ride is the reason i wasn't afraid of big coasters. This ride has been part of my family. Thank you Thunder road!

Awesome tribute video. Always sad to see a wooden coaster go, especially a classic like this! Lets hope that whatever will replace it will be better than this. Maybe the park could preserve a small section of track and display it by the site where this was.

Thunder Road was my first roller coaster. The first time I went to Carowinds was on the 4th of July in 2014 and the first thing I rode was Thunder Road.

my heart hurts....I loved Thunder Road so much...the water park is kool but the spirit of Thunder road will always remain and haunt Carowinds
Miss it very much. I rode it on the last day and that is last time I will step foot in that park.
Went on this once in 2012. A truly amazing experience. Cedar Fair screwed up big time. I will never stop missing this ride tbh

It’s been 4 years and I still can’t believe they tore this down. Fury is bigger and faster and you can always build bigger and better but you can’t ever replace memories. It was my brother’s first big coaster in the 70s not long after it opened, it was my first big coaster in the late 80s, and it was my niece and nephew’s first big coaster as well. I rode it countless times with my friends on family and school trips. I’ll never forget it.

One of my best experiences at Carowinds, was SCAROWINDS during a overcast night. Absolutely NO line at thunder road, road it frontwards then backwards over and over... watching ppl get scared at that haunted house exit that was right next to it... Forever alive in our memories

This roller coaster was my first coaster back in the mid 90's. I will never forget. My older sister made me and my twin sister ride backwards with her and her boyfriend, and it was truly terrifying for my 5 year old little body. But, that all changed in future seasons, riding non-stop for hours. I wish i could have given it one more ride for memory's sake.

This is one of the worst decisions Cedar Fair has made since deciding to close Geauga Lake. All for a water park... absolutely ridiculous.

Cedar Fair made their worst decision last year. They demolished the historic Big Dipper coaster at Geauga Lake which was designed and built by the legendary John Miller way back in 1925. The ride could have been restored and Cedar Fair refused to sell the Big Dipper to anybody, including the American Coaster Enthusiasts who designated the ride an ACE Coaster Landmark. Every other park or company, including Cedar Fair's biggest competitor Six Flags, would have sold the Big Dipper to ACE. Cedar Fair didn't even care that the Big Dipper was the 10th oldest coaster in the world or how important it was to ACE and the community. They wanted to destroy it and Cedar Fair personnel have even said one of the reasons they demolished the Big Dipper was to stop efforts to save it. John Miller was the greatest roller coaster builder who ever lived and without his careful, the big coasters of today wouldn't exist. That coaster that Cedar Fair destroyed last year, if I could estimate in value and importance, the Big Dipper was worth more than Matt Ouimet's whole life. (NOTE: Before any of you attack me for what I said, think about all the people who fought to save the Big Dipper. Think about all the people who are so angry at Cedar Fair for demolishing it. Think about how Cedar Fair refused to sell the ride.)
Before Paramount, Carowinds was synonymous w Thunder Road. It was an all-time classic. I'll never forget Thunder Road.

Sadly, I haven't seen Lightning Racer with more than a 2 ride wait. It is also right next to a waterpark that isn't that good. I hope that not every racer related to weather doesn't close. First, Rolling THUNDER, now THUNDER Road. Hopefully no more follow.

John The Golden Crafter I’m so sorry... I’ve had great memories riding the Thunder Road .... I first rode it in the the early 80’s when my church visited. We had a blast and the ride was amazing ! It was scary as hell tho lol 😂 Every time after that I was still scared of it , but still rode it 😊.... I miss it so much and I’m still upset that they had to retire it from old age 😔

ThunderRoad was a great ride, but, guys, its their choice not ours, stop hating on Carowinds, there is other classic coasters in the park, besides Fury 325 is the BEST coaster in North America, in the world for that matter, think, you have a 325 foot giga, or, a wood coaster, now im no Albert Einstein, but i think the choice is pretty clear.

Minebuster is not going to close. Wonderland is getting a coaster in 2016, which I can vertually comfirm. They will either build around Minebuster, over it, or through it, similar to Phantom's Revenge with Thunderbolt at Kennywood.

Because the structure was settling, they were shelling out way to much money to GCI for re-tracking work and the station was always walk-on empty. How can you justify keeping a coaster with the lowest attendance in the park that also took up more than 20 acres of land?
People didn't love Thunder Road, they loved the idea of Thunder Road.

It's sad that wooden roller coasters are being less common, they might Be rickety but that's what makes them fun. I rode this back in 2015 before it was closed. I don't get why they needed to expand the water park, if people go to an amusement parks for the rides who even used the water park?
