Actually in the case of DK, the problem's not with an end of memory for the levels. It's a code bug that accidentally overflows a calculation in the timer for Level 22 which leaves you with so little time it's impossible to get even halfway to the top before the timer runs out and you die. There is a patch for the error in MAME images of DK.

Steve did win. If you watched all the way through the end of the movie he sent in a new tape and won the recorded high score on Donkey Kong. He surpased Billy's taped rollover score. Now, Steve Wiebe holds the live and taped world records on Donkey Kong!
How come no one has fix this issue? I've heard about the kill screens for a long time and I thought by now someone would have made a non-kill screen version of these games. You'd think some version would have it fixed.

No game has been more protected than Billy and nobody has cheated more to maintain his status and had his efforts fostered more by the gaming establishment. Then showed other clips and you really do think twice about what you originally thought after seeing the movie. I still don't like him though. Then they had an online live showing on G4 I think of Weibe's newest attempt at the record. He got to 900K+ but lost.
Sure, and fix it so that it gets harder and harder. It would allow these games to have continual play forever. And these so called best players could go on and on and see who has the best score. Because right now, you can have a perfect score. A maximum score possible. With unlimited screens there really couldn't be a Max possible score. Now are the kill screens in the Playstation 2 versions as well?
