The owner here! This boost pipe is prone to snap or burst because of the heat and turbo pressure. The original one was breaking at the jubilee clips, so I replaced it. It did hold well but this was maybe the last push it needed to snap. Max and Martijn are great lads with even better stories to tell. Now going for a better and stronger boost hose 💨😁
Hi mate! In the past i own a VW Passat TDi 130hp with some mods(big intercooler, aluminium hose pipes with silicon conections, Garrett GTB 2260VK and of corse a remap) and that situation that happen to your car happen on my car too due the high boost pressure(2 bar), you get a jump scare due the big burst sound...😂, but my car don't turn off when that situation happens, in your S3 the car turned off when this happen...
I understand why Max said last time that you must have duct tape with you no matter where you are. So that you can fix stuff on the road, doesn't matter if it is a sunroof on the 750i or an intercooler pipe
That intercooler pipe is very prone to open from the high heat coming from turbo on these engines. You should put some heat wrap around the pipe. I did the same in mine, now using silicon forge brand pipe.
@@didinos It can happen. The engine reads x amount of air at the maf sensor. With one pipe open that amount of air is incorrect and the engine runs with an incorrect afr that can cause engine stall. But anyway, it is possible to run the engine in some cases
As a former 1.8t owner myself, I would always worry about any noise like that out of that engine, can't say it was the most dependable thing out there, lots of fun to drive though.
Lucky you didn't break down on the M3 here in the Uk. You probably would have been run over, after some bright spark though smart motorways was a good idea. Motorway with no hard shoulder, ideal for a pile up and making life hard for the emergency services.

@@weetrcek4133 Thanks, I'm not an expert but I have heard a few turbos, and there was a change in the pitch of this one. Hot or cold, that's never a good sign.
Seeing the Gauge Cluster of a B5 S4/RS4 or 8L S3, or even the UrS4/6 RS2 just takes you to peak Audi immediately and makes me forget all their flaws. The joy of AZR ripping in 6th is unmatched by the more modern Audis, and the sounds were simply epic.
Familiar place for hose to fail and got lucky it was just that 😅 I had a Forge's pipe there, but it never handled the heat as it bursted at the first track day. Put an rather expensive OEM one back in (red, lined with Nomex?) and it has held in for years. My S3 8L is running a 3" exhaust, k&n panel filter and a ecu flash, should make around 260 hp from the MAF readings.
😅🤣😂 welcome XD this i know many times on my 200 quattro 20v turbo... 1.8 - 2.1 BAR was a lot of tuning tubes 🤪😝 my has about 420 HPs and it was amazing.
I think that these small car are better on mountain roads than on highways... My diesel (MB e350cdi) is at ease with high speed on highways (low rpm, stability of the long wheel base, silence).
my car sounding like this before the bang when i had hole in the turbo pipe, all that hissing to me sounds a broken car, i hate it when cars catch up me when in line traffic sounding like this i always think my car is broken and now not got a turbo car and when over tuned car behind think something wrong with my engine. don't mind a turbo sound but all that over the top hissing all the time drive me mad id prob drive in to a tree for fun on long trip to end it, a small bit turbo ok but that much not for me that, just get bigger engine
Dont turn turbo cars off immediately especially a 1.8t the turbo gets hotter than the surface of the sun and its quicker to take the engine out to replace the turbo its a pain....😂😂
oh i know that moment when the boost pipe comes off. i had it in the first week after i build my engine thank good just a few hundred meter from my house. but the second time i was drifting mountain roads in the winter and the hose flew off in the middle of nowhere. i tried to fix it but i couldnt get more than 300m befor it flew off again. had to call an friend of mine to tow me to my garage but in the meantime my battery died on me. it was -8C outside my girlfriend in the car and no heating. gotta say that was a cold 30min wait until my friend got to me. i changed my rubber hose with welded stainless steal piping. now its holding the 1.7bar of boos like a champ
This reminds me of a test I watched on a german car TV show many many years ago (20?). AFAIR they had an M bmw, an AMG (or Brabus) and a RS6 (I think).. during the high speed test something in the Audi exploded and it ended with a big bang too. dont remember what it was, I knew almost nothing about cars back then..
That was an easy fix, get back in and start booting it again. Imagine having a similar problem with a modern car, you ll be stuck there until the 2nd coming of Jesus. Well done Max.
can happen all the time, last thing i had was poped open freshly new exhaust manifold, in the middle of the ElbTunnel car was loud as a tank but want go any faster that 60km/h and near at home it got comeplet off and engine was goind 100% spitfire wanted to bbq everything^^
I've been in this situation, but with a pipe under the engine block, i had to wait for 2.5 hours for road side assistance just to jack my car up because i didn't have a car jack which could jack up my car high enough to reach the pipe, then when i got home i checked and the clamp on that hose had come lose again, instantly replaced that piece of shit hose with a better one, never had any issues again
Awsome.. i will pick this kind of era car over a modern laptop car... i had a i30 n too much bullshit like lane assist and computer with functions i never used ..
Lol! This happened on my Urs4 all the time. Eventually I got another intercooler and I got rid of the issues as it always popped of at the same place, even with an aftermarket hose.

Max is a nazi ?
Had same problem in my seat 225. Rechanged out for a silicone one with some very very strong clamps not a problem so far
Had one come off but just needing a good tighten, did it rip apart on yours or something ?
hearing a big bang and then discovering its just a hose must be such a relief
German quality with Chinese clamps... 😂😂😂😂 disapointing German quality...

Should it move but doenst? Use wd-40
It moves but shouldnt? Use duct tape
please go fix the world economic Forum then 🤓

noise sounded like something pressurised just burst so unlikely internal. glad it was just an intercooler pipe quick and easy fix.

The way "big bang" sounds in dutch still makes me laugh. As a german, dutch just sounds funny.
That wasnt a normal Dutch expression.

In Dutch you would say "goede knal / flinke knal".

So, just a boost pipe. Couldn't the engine be started, and run as N/A, just to not have to be towed?
That turbo did not sound right from the start. That gasping sound set me on edge straight away.
That's normal sound with cold air intake.

lucky it wasnt uncle rodney coming for a visit
