Hi, Dan! Re: The treble switch: If 'ya swapped out one of your pots for a push-pull pot and did some minor solder work, you could replace that DIP switch with the aforementioned push-pull, so you *could* change it on the fly.
Would love to see a vid of your custom engraving. I've had a few engraving jobs and very curious to see your technique. Tried freehand engraving with a Dremel vibration engraver and yeah, not so good lol. Love that pickup ring!
Hey Dan, it's been over a year since you last did a Rickenbacker style kit, and you'll notice in that time that affordable kits for rick style basses have become quite a bit rarer and quite a bit less affordable. If you're looking for an idea for a future video, It'd be really cool to see another one of those.
Love the new video style where you are playing throughout the build with labeled tone samples (bridge, neck, both, etc.) Simple, non-obtrusive, and effective!
I've been a bass player over 30 years now, and this axe really inspires me. So many possibilities flowing through my head on a second bass build for me are churning now!
Love the fact that most of the mods would normally cost hundreds, Dan comes along and as long as you have the tools to do it you pay for parts and done. And definitely do a video on the etching always turns out great
That engraving you did was super cool too! I REALLY want them to do a kit for the Hofner club bass (not just the ugly violin one). Thanks again for your fun how-to videos; LOVE them.
This channel came a long way since the starting days... Very nice. Great video and really like your lifestyle choice. Would be cool if you made this a thing where people across the globe could catch you roaming around their town and bring you stuff and exchange ideas and projects.
Dan, that was a friggin' incredible build! I purchased an unfinished paddle neck that was more to spec for my Schecter Model-T (the neck fits all the way in the pocket this time instead of a nice gap wear my 7 year younger self didn't take fret count into consideration as well as scale length.... *doooohhhh*) I have been really sputtering on getting the head-stock finished at i don't really have a lot of good tools for lopping material off the head, but you have inspired my to start grinding that puppy down to the basic template i put on there and making her look pretty (fender telecaster bass style head design, with a few little personal touches, of course). Thanks for the inspiration as always! i think maaaaybe you should look into getting a bargain musician's V BASS KIT as your next bass, so i have something to look forward to watching.... in a year. lol cheers to you and your family and safe travels!
I'll watch now had to comment first lol!--- 13:49 later...I did the same route to a les paul and put a strat neck on it and now I make em and call em Paulocasters!
That's the bass I dreamed of and never knew it existed! haha This is just beautiful! Amazing paint job, engraving, electronics selection and KILLER tone. I would love to have one of those.
Dan, GREAT vid. That bass turned out STELLAR. Love the tone and the visual aesthetics. I would love to see a vid about your engraving techniques. Keep em coming Sir........Many thanks!!!!!
For those who don't know bass and guitar pickup are made the same way just that, pickups with poles or screws are dedicated to each ones, but every blade pickup works on bass ( There are even people back in time putting guitar pickup in eb0/eb3 under the cover, to replace the mudbucker ) si strat blade pickup, firebird, Charlie Christian, danelectro ... work on bass, and every blade bass pickups could be put on guitars
Heyo, Dan! This is a great vid, mayn! Beautifully done bass in build and your playing. Sounds fantastic. Absolutely would enjoy seeing some engraving videos. Your video production is at a point to really do it justice so, yes please. great video, thank you for sharing!
That's fokin genius, Dan u killed it bass looks sexy enough, but that compass engraving give the bass his soul, would lov to see those engraving tutorials Awesome build man, thanks
That bass sounds and looks so good, was not disappointed. That tone is huge! Good video as always and i liked that you put the name of the place where you filmed. And hell yea i would like to see how you do those gravings
I also love the sound samples.playing throughout the video. I thought the mix between speech and bass was perfect! Also, I give you credit for running a guitar shop out of a 5th wheel. That would drive me nuts.
Thanks for this video. This was the exact bass kit from Fretwire my wife bought me as a project. I trusted that the neck would seat correctly after gluing. I WAS WRONG! I glued that bastard in strong. Once the strings were on, they laid across the neck solidly and no amount of raising the bridge would help. I now know I should have tested it first, but I didn't think I would/should have to. I'm not good at woodworking, but I at least now have an option.
A replacement neck is not that expensive. If you email sam at the fretwire and tel him your story, maybe he’ll give you a good deal on a bolt on neck to replace it. It’s worth asking!
@@GunsandGuitars Thanks for the reply. I've been subscribed to your channel for a while because I love both guitars AND guns. You couldn't ask for more from one channel. I will contact Fretwire.
A video about your thoughts on multiscale guitars and basses and some of the kits that are out there would be interesting. i ask because it seems like everyone from Jackson and Ibanez to Cort are doing one. I ask more from a players perspective , but a build on one of these would be interesting as well. If you think they are worth it. Either way enjoy your travels and be well.
Dan I love the custom headstock you’ve done with these kits but.. that looks almost identical to the peavey zodiac bxp headstocks. Btw I suggest playing one if you get the chance they are cool
EMG makes a humbucker sized pickup that has the sound of a p bass pickup. I believe it's called an EMG HB bass pickup. Its originally for a Steinberger bass but I'm pretty sure it would work in basically (no pun intended lol) anything with a standard humbucker rout.
No kidding on that character, that tone was killer.
Thanks jay!
I love how the playing is in the background throughout now. Love the new formula
But a bit loud compared to the voice over. Just my constructive two cents.
Totally agree @Itsaya... But I also agree with Elon, it's a bit too loud in the mix with the voice over
Snake - I'm could do with a lot less volume or maybe no background - Just saying
And both versions of the bass too.
Hi, Dan!
Re: The treble switch:
If 'ya swapped out one of your pots for a push-pull pot and did some minor solder work, you could replace that DIP switch with the aforementioned push-pull, so you *could* change it on the fly.
Haha, "so I just chopped the neck off, and finished it of with a screwdriver", brilliant to see how your builds stay down to earth!
I totally want an engraving video Dan. that would be sweet.
That bass has been through so much...
And btw I would totally want to see how you do your custom engravings.
Of course, engraving videos!
I think in one of his build videos he touches it, i might be wrong tho. He uses his dremel ik that
in the first dream strat he shows it i think
nope i was wrong
dream bass
Dan every time you build a new bass it shows how much your craftsmanship keeps growing....
I would personally LOVE to see a hofner violon style bass kit review!
Reminds me of Dave grohl’s sig guitar
Yeah very similar to a trini Lopez huh!
Would love to see a vid of your custom engraving. I've had a few engraving jobs and very curious to see your technique. Tried freehand engraving with a Dremel vibration engraver and yeah, not so good lol. Love that pickup ring!
So it’s all about guns ... and guitars, one of the most American channel ever ! This guy knows his stuff! I like that !
Definitely do a engraving video! Would love to see how you get such great results!

Looks nice and yes I'd love to see an engraving tutorial. Pretty expensive proposition to save that kit. Great playing as always.
Not really, a spare neck costs less than $50 typically. The tools for steaming out a neck joint would cost way more than that!
Love the new video style where you are playing throughout the build with labeled tone samples (bridge, neck, both, etc.)
Simple, non-obtrusive, and effective!
I've been waiting for this video for a long time. But the finition and the tone just reach my heart! It's beautiful!
We really need an SG one of these videos
I've been a bass player over 30 years now, and this axe really inspires me. So many possibilities flowing through my head on a second bass build for me are churning now!

Yes on the engraving video.
I would love a video on the engravings. That bass and your custom cabinet look awesome
Engrave away! I got the dremel flex extension and now need to use it!
Great recommendation in prior video.
Love the new style of editing. No need to make 2 videos. Excellent build dan.
Never been a huge hollow body fan, but now I want one! Well done sir!
That engraving you did was super cool too! I REALLY want them to do a kit for the Hofner club bass (not just the ugly violin one). Thanks again for your fun how-to videos; LOVE them.
This looks incredible! I've been saving for a 335- style guitar for a bit and this is giving me ideas.
Thanks for being such an adventurous spirit and having such ambitious work ethic to do these videos bro!
Much appreciated.
Dan you're a madman, cutting off the neck instead of steaming, I love it! Also, I would love to see a custom engraving video!
This channel came a long way since the starting days... Very nice. Great video and really like your lifestyle choice. Would be cool if you made this a thing where people across the globe could catch you roaming around their town and bring you stuff and exchange ideas and projects.
This is by far my favorite build you’ve done! The tone is amazing.
Never wanted a semi hollow or hollow body until today. Great tone. Great playing. I dig the way you demo'd the bass along with the build tutorial.
Dan, that was a friggin' incredible build! I just had an active/passive bypass installed in my bass using the same preamp you use. I’ll never own a bass without one again! It’s so useful!
Seriously. It makes a great little setup
I would love to see a video on your engraving method
You got it Aaron!
I love that engraving job! That is so awesome, I'd love to see a dedicated video
So glad to finally see a vid on this bass. I’ve been seeing it on the wall and been waiting to see a full vid on this
Totally want to see the custom engravings!!!
Your finest build so far! I've said it before and I'm sure I'll say it again!
You are a beast, Dan. Never stop being awesome.
I just can't get enough of your finish.
You have good taste haha!
I'll watch now had to comment first lol!--- 13:49 later...I did the same route to a les paul and put a strat neck on it and now I make em and call em Paulocasters!
That sounds rad. I made a bolt on Les Paul too!
You should tele everyone about that...pun intended
That's the bass I dreamed of and never knew it existed! haha
This is just beautiful!
Amazing paint job, engraving, electronics selection and KILLER tone. I would love to have one of those.
Truly American bass, with the Americas on it!
Good job!
Dan, GREAT vid. That bass turned out STELLAR. Love the tone and the visual aesthetics. I would love to see a vid about your engraving techniques.
Keep em coming Sir........Many thanks!!!!!
That tone, man.. It's so good and punchy...
And I would be very happy if you make a dedicated video on how to engrave on that bass...
Wow. I remember the original build. What a great job on the refinish. That engraving really looks good.
Thanks Jeff!
Beautiful bass, Dan! I've been focused on drone videography lately, but this has my guitar building vibes waking up!
Beautiful work Dan. I love the engraving work and the gray burst. It looks amazing! Rock on!
Hahahaha I love the Dan Thompson way! You are really an inspiration, Dan. I hope to be half a guitar maker that you are some day. Rock on!

By far my favorite Dan bass yet
Excellent end result to the original awkward kit
I just love these semi hollow basses because of the Starcaster
Would definitely love to see an engraving video, I have considered doing it on some of my basses, but have no clue where to start.
Good to see you back at it!
it' is good to se you back on guitars!!!
Heyo, Dan! This is a great vid, mayn! Beautifully done bass in build and your playing. Sounds fantastic. Absolutely would enjoy seeing some engraving videos. Your video production is at a point to really do it justice so, yes please. great video, thank you for sharing!
That's sweet. I'd say you definitely got the tone you were looking for.
+1 for a Scott Pilgrim reference. Always thought it was weird that a kid with no money in Canada played a Rickenbacker. Solid build (mod?) Dan.
I think that engraving video you mentioned is a great idea!
That's fokin genius, Dan u killed it
bass looks sexy enough, but that compass engraving give the bass his soul, would lov to see those engraving tutorials
Awesome build man, thanks
Thanks Giancarlo!
Dan great video as always! Yes please do make a video of how you create engraving on you projects.
One of the bet vids I've seen on youtube. Pretty amazing!
That bass sounds and looks so good, was not disappointed. That tone is huge! Good video as always and i liked that you put the name of the place where you filmed. And hell yea i would like to see how you do those gravings
Nice, as always good video Dan, hope one day you get to make a SG type guitar
Maybe one day I will!
Looks great Dan! Glad to see you building such awesome stuff on the road man!
Btw, would LOVE to see an additional video on engraving!
I absolutely LOVE what you did with this bass!! It looks and sounds fantastic!
Rio Grande make humbucker sized bass pickups. I think there’s is a little bigger. Also I’m pretty sure Lace Sensor makes some.
That was awesome! Love the outdoor shots! Safe travels
Yay build videos are back!
I would really love to see some engraving video tutorials!
You got it razman!
what a life, keep living the dream, awesome bass too
Nice rework there, Dan! Came out great!! Thanks for the great vid!
Thanks Karl!
Holy crap Dan!! That tone is freakin amazing!!
Thanks Darin!
Hi from the UK! Great build/tone. Would definitely love to see more custom artwork footage. You got a gift there for sure. I'm jealous. :)
I also love the sound samples.playing throughout the video. I thought the mix between speech and bass was perfect! Also, I give you credit for running a guitar shop out of a 5th wheel. That would drive me nuts.
Beautiful bass with awesome tone. Great job!
May i say that is the most punk rock thing ive ever seen
Dan, Awesome work and tone on that bass..
That bass is a killer for bass.. from ordinary to super extra ordinary..
Would LOVE a 5-string version of this!!!!!
Great job, Dan!!!!!
Not a bad idea, might need to figure out if that’s possible
Love the idea of a 335 bass.
Love it. Great look, great tone, great build. I'm glad there's still time for these videos with your new lifestyle. Keep it up.
This couldn’t have come out better looking!
Thanks!!!

What strings did you use because I hear a low B string and idk if you were tuned. Did you just put a B string all the way up to a D string
Yes I tuned it to BEAD
Thanks Dan!!
Nice save, thoroughly enjoyable.
That is a killer looking bass . Well done amigo
Thanks mark!
@@GunsandGuitars I'm considering building a bass myself. Not sure which one fits my needs best. Just want something to record with on pc
