Great idea! I was thinking of placing panels on my flat garage, but I really like this pergola creation. I don't like solar panels on the house, but I understand it is necessary most of the time. Thanks for the video!
@@Mikebuildss Cool. I have a couple ground mounts. One that is concreted in and another that its on 48" ground screws, Both are very sturdy. The wind on this hillside can be something amazing. After construction the wind was strong enough to blow one of the panels off the array because I didn't attach it well. Amazingly it wasn't damaged landing about 4 feet away. If I put up another array I'll do the ground screws again. The only problem is the 2" galvanized pipe for the frame is quite expensive.
@@peterjol I would bet there are some products that would work, so far normal window calking seems to be dealing good it doesn’t leak water when it rains
Joist tape for decks. There might be some so the width don’t cover any of the cells. Put on top so water doesn’t pool and cause issues the many of issues that come with sitting water as compared to sealing from under.
Interesting approach! I have been watching Solar Pergola videos for a while, planning on doing one in the near future. Really love your can do attitude and am interested how you utilize the power, are you connected to the grid?
@@Mikebuildss Wood rots and needs maintenance. There are metal kits for carports out there, but they are expensive. Would love to be able to go to Home Depot and buy struts etc. there and fashion a solar carport out of it at a more reasonable price.
@@danstenis660 also I used a cheap flux core welder, you don’t need a fancy machine to get good results, metal is cheap if you buy from steel supply places.
Hi, have them on beams and rack on my wooden side roof over the garage and toilet / coal house. ( That dates the house!) Easy to remove though with solar racking. I have them on the sheds in the garden and a A frame on the lawn. Looking at putting them against the fence line when I clear the weeds. (bushes) Living in the UK not much need for sun shade! But I like it. Take care M

When I build mine I’m going to use Unistrut. Good project though! More landscape and shade. Win win.

It Surprises me that nobody appears to be selling some sort of simple plastic/rubber sealing tape/strip designed for using solar panels as a roofing.

No grid connection, this is for my off grid 48 volt power system that i use to run my mini splits and charge batteries, its plenty of power!
It's like a junkyard back there. Bet the neighbors hate it.

Australian here, why not put them on the roof of your house like we do?
