The Drakensberg Amphitheatre and Tugela falls 2 day hike is perfect to do as a getaway from the city.
For nature lovers, it is a fantastic opportunity to get to the top of the Drakensberg in just a 2 day getaway.
The hike starts at Witsieshoek lodge, Witsieshoek is a 4-hour drive from either Johannesburg or Durban, making it conveniently close
The Drakensberg Amphitheatre and Tugela Falls 2 day hike covers about 6km each day, ascending from 2500m to just under 3000m
The route is mostly circular starting at the Sentinal car park and walking up the zigzags for a stop above the 3 Witches. After this, you stroll along the contour path to the world famous chain ladders, oh my goodness I was super scared, my feet trembled for the first 5 steps, after that I was okay 😊
Not recommend for people with a fear of heights . After climbing the Chain Ladders you walk for another 2km to camp site where you can pitch your tents on top of the Amphitheater.
The way back down has 2 options. You can climb back down the ladders or down the gully. The gully is a story for another day.
