Cute box. Really like the artwork and theme behind it. Very nicely presented by Lloyd in his highly relaxing mannerisms. Kudos to Phillip for such a generous gift.
Just as an interesting aside, Lloyd, Okonomiyaki is basically like a savory pancake filled - typically - with things like seafood, veggies like cabbage, and garnished with stuff such as pickled ginger (which adds a tart, slightly spicy sweetness)

Yes! So excited for this. Perfect timing for my bedtime here in the UK. I love Lloyd’s food videos the most - both set in Lloydville and those in real life! Japanese snacks have been an obsession of mine and my husband’s since we travelled there in 2019 pre-covid (and pre-kids haha). Anyway, can’t wait for this Lloyd. I hope there’s something black sesame in there because I love it and hope you will too! Enjoy!!!
The part where you cut open the Gold Baumkuchen was so satisfying. The packaging sounded like that thick papery plastic stuff which has such a great cracking and crinkly sound coupled with the delicate scissor sounds. Great work again Nate

In regards to the first snack, maneki neko is just referring to the good luck cat figure on the packaging, that cat figurine is called maneki neko. Arare ( pronounced a-rawr-ray) is just a sweet/soy flavored small nugget shaped rice crackers, very similar to the senbei rice cracker, which is made of the same basic ingredients, with major difference being the shape.
For the second treat which wasn't in the book, you can take a photo of the wrapper and try doing a Google image search, if you don't have any viewers that can shed any light as to what it was.
Baumkuchen (pronounced bomb-coo-ken) is actually a German word for cake. The book description mentioned Hiroshima, and I'm wondering if anybody can provide any context as to the Germany-Japan connection, unless it is just the obvious WW2 Axis powers trading sweets connection? History and anthropology of food is my thing, and I was quite intrigued that a German cake was in a curated Japanese box. I'd love a history lesson if anyone can provide!

Ninoshima island in Hiroshima Bay had a POW camp after WWI. A German POW began making them for his peers while interred there. Near the POW camp on the island was a Japanese army quarantine facility. The quarantine facility was made into a hospital after the bombing of Hiroshima. The cookies were apparently a big hit for those in the hospital, and the city features them in tourism.
