I was made a Catechumen by our Priest on Sunday. I have been praying with a prayer book for months now, and it has made prayer feel so much more meaningful. Glory to Jesus Christ.
Amen!
Glory forever!
Congratulations🎉 me too! I just became a catechumen 2 weeks ago at my local Russian Orthodox church ☦️ after being a protestant my whole life i feel ive come home, Glory to God
Amen
As a former protestant who became Orthodox last August on the on the Dormition of the Mother of God, I can say the prayer rules are a great blessing to me and they have not been vain repetition.
This is so beautiful. Spent the last few hours watching video after video. Beautiful setting, direct and clear answers, and great visuals. I will be baptized within a few weeks. I'm so thankful God allowed me to accept this path.
Not forgetting the insistent clamouring of the widow of the parable of Luke 18.
Great points brother. The early Church began with the new Christians participating in " the prayers". " And they held steadfastly to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers."-Acts 2:42. Those were liturgical prayers that had been written down and repeated daily in the temple for hundreds of years. The new Church continued that practice.
You guys are amazing. You have no idea what a blessing you are to people watching from around the world ☦️
Grateful for all your input and support since we started this channel, old friend!
The Return of The King. The long awaited sun has shone down on our shores and we are readyyyyy. Man I've missed your videos.
Lots more coming! Thanks for waiting
thank you so very much for addressing this so helpfully. ❤❤❤❤❤
I actually just had this conversation with my son. This is a much better explanation, and ill be sharing this viseo with him. Thank you.
Dude this channel is awesome. Im discerning a call from God to leave the smoke and mirrors of the protestant church. Demystifying the common misconceptions has been pivotal. Thanks for this content brothers.
May God bless your journey!
If you need extra material, we put lots of links in the descriptions of our videos to more information!
Okay first of all, amazing video!
Second of all, welcome back! We have all missed you!
My third point, and the most important point, YOU DRANK THE TEA ON CAMERA AGAIN!!!!
IT HAS BEEN FREED ONCE MORE!!! #PatristixDrinksTheTeaAgain!❤☦️
Glad you enjoy the tea section, my friend
Good video, i always think of the quote from Meister Eckhart "If the only prayer you ever say in your whole life is 'thank you,' that would suffice"
It relaxes me against the turmoil in the world.😊
Welcome back! A great addition here, thanks!
HES BACK 👏🏼
Welcome back! God bless!
This video has fantastic captions, thank you for putting the time into them! There is an error at 4:16 after the quote from John Chrysostom: the quote from St Issac the Syrian is not in the captions, and then there is a minor mistake at 4:24 (a double t in the word "there").
Lovely video, thank you for this introductory explanation of this concept in simple terms. As a Protestant considering Orthodoxy this topic is one of many little issues I have come across... and will need to defend to my protestant friends and family if I convert. Your channel has been a blessing to me and I am thankful I found it, as your short and simple explanations in layman's terms is very useful for those of us who are not cradle Orthodox.
Thanks for this !
I’m so thankful for finding your channel! It’s been helpful to send videos to friends that are not quite sure why I became Orthodox or what Orthodoxy is. I have learned a lot as well ☦️ Thanks again and keep up the great work! I need to buy you some tea😉
So glad you're enjoying the videos!
And thank you. Tea and prayers always appreciated.
If you genuinely want to buy us a tea, you can do so on Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/patristix
But no pressure. Glad the videos are useful!
We've missed you!
Youve just opened up my mind so much! Goodness!
As a recent subscriber, I have been enjoying your videos a lot, keep up the good work! And avoid teabags when making the tea!
Good to see you again! ❤️☦️
Great video, thanks. Subscribed.
Welcome to Patristix!
Love this channel this video really helped me thanks brother!
Glad to hear it! God bless
Great!
On this topic I also recommand the reading of these 2 paraboles in the Gospel of Saint Luke :
11:5-8 and 18:1-8
I continue to appreciate you all's work / content.
Amazing video as always!! God bless you and your channel
Thank you!
wholesome music n channel❤
I was beginning to lean towards this interpretation, because it seemed more and more like the only way to make any sense of it. I don't see how one can spend their entire lives in prayer, and not repeat themselves. Not to mention, in Luke 18:1-8, Jesus Himself teaches us via a parable that our prayers should be persistent, and in Luke 11:1-8 Jesus gives us the oft-repeated Lord's prayer, immediately followed by a parable that teaches us to ask repeatedly, with persistence. I always found the apparent contradiction very complicated. The only solution I see is that, indeed, repetition is a good thing, and that the verse about "vain repetition" has the emphasis on the word "vain".
Amen.
Lots of catechumens in the comments. I was just baptized on April 8th into the Holy Orthodox Church ☦️
Man years brothers and sisters.
❤☦️
Thank you. This was bothering me so much.
Glad to help! There are a few extra links in the description that are good too about the topic
👍👍👍👍👍
here
So how about when im praying for my friend or her friend, and she asks me to say prayer for her or her friend and to keep on praying for her situation, and I do mean what i say in my prayers, but I repeat the same prayer is that wrong? like for example my friends friend is in the hospital, so im praying for healing, strength, love, comfort and peace for the situation daily. Thanks
As we said in the video, repeating prayers is well and good! Keep praying ☦️
@@Patristix Thank you for the quick reply. Yes my mind tends to overthink things especially seeing the word repetitive, and thinking back to how Ive been praying repetitive, but not from an empty heart, but meaning it in my prayers hoping to stay strong in prayers even if its repetitve for my friends, family and prayers for others. Thank you, God bless☺🙏✝❤
Hope the video helps a little bit! There's nothing wrong with repetition. God bless!
I mean, you don't pray the Lord's Prayer just once but (hopefully) many times in your life. And hopefully you also keep praying for your friends, relatives, enemies etc. many times in your life
When originally written, this would have been a very accurate translation to use the word repetition, it would have had a more general meaning, but language shifts over time. It's important to be aware of changes in English with this.
The vain, repetitious prayer Jesus warned about was the type of prayer described in
1 Kings 18:26-28:
Quote:
“And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made. And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.”
The pagans would call upon the name of their gods over and over until they got the god to respond. If their god responded, it made the shaman or holy man a big shot, capable of calling the gods down from heaven. That's the "vain" part. The "repetitious" part is not the problem. Jesus prayed the same prayer three times in the Garden. The angels in heaven endlessly repeat "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY is THE LORD GOD, THE ALMIGHTY, WHO WAS AND WHO IS AND WHO IS TO COME." Now that's repetitious prayer, but it's pleasing to God. Just like the Rosary. Keep on prayin'!

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.🤔🤔
Everytime i get distracted when doing pre-formulated prayers, i get jerked. It's like God shaking me to get back to prayer.
Love your videos! So glad to have you back! Just a little comment that you can disregard if you choose: I don’t love the background music in this video. I feel like it’s different than the classical, regal music you used in the past? The other music gave a more revenant and steady feel.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the feedback!
The problem also lies with the poor interpretation in the KJV which came up with the words "vain repetition." The translators of the King James version in the early 17th century were the FIRST to change to that subtle meaning, and some think it was to be a direct attack on the CC for praying the rosary. The original Greek gospel, however, used a word that was a combination of two words that literally meant "babbling nonsense words" and as the video shows, there was NO connotation that banned REPEATING prayers. The Hail Mary prayer is NOT "babbling nonsense"....the words come from the gospel of Luke.
Easy: Make your repetition not vain.
