As s student pilot that just soloed in a SR-20, this view offers a valuable sight window on what's going on below the seat. Great post - Thanks! So, I had one bounce on landing one, two was fantastic, and three was good. And after I shut her down, my left leg was shaking. :)
Thanks for the kind words Chris! Even with 800hrs under my belt I was surprised too to see what was actually happening down there. Keep working at it! I'd scared myself pretty good with some Creative Landings in the early days too :)
I know I'm a little late (okay, a lot) to the party. But my understanding is there is such a thing as a perfect landing. It's when the wing stalls and the mains touch at the same time. Most pilots come in way too hot for this to happen. It's hard to do, I know. But it sure is fun tryin'! Greasin' 'em in since 1979 (well, most of the time) Ha!
Thanks Dan! The consensus from the RV guys on the forums appears to be that I should cut my speed down. They say me short final should be flown at 60 to 65 kts rather than 70 kts like I currently do. So I'll be back out there again experimenting with that. Perfection never ends I guess :-)
What is the part you have on your nose wheel pant, looks like a tow bar guard. Also, is it custom made or did you buy it (if you bought it could you tell me where?)
gimmieanamestupid perceptive of you to notice! ;-) Yes,those are towbar guards. An A&P that I used to use made them for me, so they are a one-off. But I sure do love them, my fiberglass used to get beat to heck
RT from " BLUE DOG LEADER "...a.k.a. Roger Wilco, I teach students that the best landings are when you can keep the airplane from landing... as long as you can with the main tires " 1 millimeter " from the runway... practice this and you get greasers and learn the feel of the elevators and how different they are in each aircraft... OVER & OUT!
Shave about 5kts off your speed .... you are floating for atbleast 500 feet...tighten up your patterns. Flying a Gulfstream pattern in an RV eats too much time you could spend doing more landings....
+The HD Pilot My RV-9 is at the other end of the spectrum! Regarding holding the nose wheel off on landing........ I talked to Van once, and he said "Think of the nosewheel as a kickstand. It is there to hold it up when you are parked."
Can never understand why someone builds a girly version of the best kit plane ever designed! Conventional U/C looks mean, requires skill & is the only way you can be called a pilot ! Look at that weak nose wheel design? Horrid!
While I am an avid tail wheel pilot, I have to point out that there is a reason all the major GA manufacturers went to nose dragger designs. That being said, the RV's, except later models like the 14, do have a pretty weak nose wheel design.
Nice job these videos helped me a ton in my plane. Thank you
Amazing how much we learn when we debrief with video
Started getting my landings dialed. Key was keep some rpm in it. 1050-1100

Great job. I’ve got 4 landings and 50% of them were greased. Lol I got the speeds down better now.

Nice work man! If my landings were consistently that good, I would be a happy pilot!

Nice camera angles and video

+Neil Cosentino, thanks for the adivce. I'm now addicted to trying to get the best landings possible. btw - cool thumbnail icon you've got :)

Cool. The most amazing thing to me is, how clean your BELLY is! (smile)
+19sloper I use it as a mirror to shave in every morning :-D
Thanks for noticing sloper!

+The HD Pilot Did you reply hybrid asking him then why did he ever start making them with nose wheels? #TailDraggersDoItBetter
All flaps every time
wrong airplane
