  • We make our way from Copper Harbor, MI to the Mackinac Bridge & then take the Lake Express Ferry across Lake Michigan and over to Milwaukee, WI. Whew!! What a ride!
    First off is a ride to remember when going over the Mackinac Bridge as we make our way to Muskegon for a memorial service for Chris’ mom. This five-mile-long suspension bridge connects Michigan’s Lower and Upper Peninsula and is the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world.

    In 2012 I rode my Kawasaki Nomad 1600 from PA to Oshkosh WI, and then on the return trip took that Ferry across the lake (reverse of what you did) and it was a great rest and avoided all of Chicago and 80 across the bottom of the lakes. Good choice for this experience. Because of your channel I've been camping now too with a Kompact Kamp MiniMate and my Goldwing. Been having a lot of fun and learning along the way. Missed you in Michigan. I’m from lower Michigan east side Thumb area Almont, however I was in the U.P. Same time as you kids 🤷‍♂️. I truck semi for myself across country. I was in cedar River along route 2 and stayed in St Ignace, then went across bridge to Roger City. You’ve inspired me to take a bike ride up north in my own state. Beautiful up there. Lower Michigan on west side up to Traverse City is old and pretty as all get out. 😎🤠 safe travels

  • @SFSideburns
    @SFSideburns 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can put your Harley into transport mode to prevent the alarm from going off. With the fob in range, turn the ignition on and off again. Within 3 sec press both turn signal switches simultaneously. The turn signals then should flash once. Now the alarm is disabled. All other security systems work nontheless and you don't have to leave the fob at the bike. I did this on a ferry to Norway.

    Fun fact I learned from History Channel, when the bridge opened, the open deck freaked people out. The state workers, informally at first, would drive people's vehicles across for them. The still do.

    Another great video.
    That does seem to be a nice ferry. Did you do lunch on the ferry? But the cost, and procedures did highlight how spoiled we are in western Washington state with the Washington State Ferry system (when it is operating normally). Most routes do not require reservations. No tying down required. Generally motorcycle are first on and first off. Even without reservations motorcycles almost always get a space on the next sailing. There is access to the car deck at all time. The ferry boats switch which end of the boat is the bow at each crossing. So the boat never has to turn around.
    This isn't really a comparison of similar types of ferries. The Lake Express Ferry is a high speed small vehicle ferry for saving time, reducing stress and generally being comfortable. Its route is almost 90 miles. The Washington State ferry system is part of the state highway system. It is also used by trailer-trucks and other commercial vehicles. Its longest crossing is only about 20 miles. Some are only about 5 miles.
    I have taken a Washington State Ferry coming back from the Oster Run motorcycle rally. That is the only time that I have ever seen motorcycles required to wait for the next sailing. They were limiting how many motorcycles they were putting on each ferry. The ferry I was on was nearly half motorcycles and half other vehicle by space. My guess would be over 200 motorcycles. It was an impressive sight.

      There is limited national and no international reciprocity for guns. It's strictly illegal to bring handguns or ammunition for them into Canada. Many states refuse to recognize the carry permits issued by other states. Makes me wonder why other states accept drivers' licenses from those states.

    Ahhh! The Mackinac Bridge 😠! I went over it in 2008 SB...on a Wing...with a trailer! 😵‍💫 Couldn’t use the paved right lane due to maintenance. Those grates threw the Wing around so much, I was down to 40 km/h (25 mph). Never so glad to get off the bridge. Thank goodness it was a quiet Sunday morning & a Semi covered my backside. He was ready to pick up my pieces if I went down.

    Very nice! I would not have guessed that it would be that expensive. Thank you for breaking it down why. The submarine museum, USS Silversides, is on my list to see. It is a highly decorated WW II submarine.

    That bridge is HUGE, had to ride across it in 2017 on the inside lane due to a disabled vehicle in the right lane. That was NOT FUN. Shared a campsite with a rider from Eastern Canada in the U.P. he was ride down to Los Vagas. We looked at the fairy but not for that kind of money as we were headed north and west on US-2
