    This is almost a perfect built for DWC, would add some aeration to the system + allowing yourself to drain the buckets in place vs moving anything. I don’t see how you can empty those weekly. If the drains were on the bottom but added shut off valves to each drain you can run it as a DWC system and turn your drainage system into a weekly used thing when you cycle the water out. Deff appreciated the video and ideas to go off of!

    Nice Job! I wanted to keep my water levels higher, but most growers don't subscribe to that method. Hopefully, you will have great luck with it. Great thinking on anticipating issues later. Instead of perlite, it will be fertilized solution with root microbes to increase uptake of nutrients. The idea being to get production earlier to have a longer growing season. We get too much heat here in Kansas City, so mine will need to be an enclosed building for controlled climate. The section requiring bees for pollination will be screened in.

    You are gonna have to figure out how to keep the solution cool. It will heat up and kill your plants. Some people bury the reservoir to do it. You could also implement a float valve to keep the level full automatically. Another geeky idea for redundancy would be to use a TEE and another pump. Good build, great instructional video!

    To save confusion, black PVC pipe does not technically exist. It is black because it is ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) pipe. It doesn't appear to be an issue with your build but just know that the two (PVC & ABS) cannot be joined together with the pipe cement that you recommend in your product list or with other cement. The two are mutually exclusive and PVC is typically used to feed a system where ABS is most often used for the waste side. BTW, awesome build and I loved the attention to the little things like thinking ahead and foreseeing issues and dealing with them beforehand.

    • @intohomesteading778
      @intohomesteading778  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, i have another big DWC system and aeration is key for output. And definitely set up
      Agreed. The water level to where your crops root system will do best. I found with a dutch bucket siphon system the pvc is more forgiving than cutting hole to shallow or too deep. If i shorten or lengthen then pvc in the buckets then i get what i need too!

    I love that setup. Is that the Harbor Freight greenhouse? One correction though. You can't simply convert a deep water dutch bucket to a shallow water one just by adding an extension pipe down inside. The water level will still rise until it gets to the level of the hole.
    You CAN convert a shallow level bucket to a deep water like you said, because the water will need to rise to the height of the new pipe inside. I think that's the way I'll go because it opens more options. I think those grommets are pretty leak proof once seated properly.
    Looking great so far though.

    • @andreamitchell4758
      @andreamitchell4758 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes that is what I was thinking also
      last year I made a MHP style system with 4 gal cat liter buckets
      this year I want to make another 10 bucket system ,but after taking all yea to collect 10 more buckets I don't want to drill the drain holes up high only to find out later
      it doesn't work for me , I think I rather drill the holes the same height , about 2" up from the bottom and upturn the inside elbow add another piece of PVC inside to the desired height, I have seen people use another elbow at the top of the drain pile but I don't think it is needed ,or maybe it is to help prevent roots from growing down in there
      I also do not want to use any air stones I was wondering if there are some nozzles that can attach to the end of the 1/4 tubing that will make a thin higher pressure stream to shoot into the water to make it aerate better
      not sure if it would work or if it would been too much restriction for the pump though
