I'm glad you said what you did about how conventions are changing. I can't believe how many vendors are just on their phones, ignoring everyone passing by
Just as an alternative point of view: Introverts exist. Sometimes, the terror of just being behind the table is enough to *appear* non-engaged, when it's really just that you're out of spoons. Zines themselves are good ways to share with people when even the thought of being in a large group of people gives you the willies. It may not be snobbiness; it may well be a different way of interacting with the world, and I'm glad that zinefests are inclusive of *all* types of people. (Also, and I say this gently, the comment about people not interacting with you even if you're dropping a significant amount of money is kind of...off. You're buying the work, not the life of the creator. It's a bonus when someone gives freely of their time, for sure, but to me, it seems like the boundaries of the transaction are the goods you're buying, y'know?)
I'm going to be signing up to sell art at a convention soon, and this inspired me to maybe make some small comics to sell or trade if I make it in. Although what you were saying about people selling comics not being engaging enough at times, they might have social anxiety, a quiet voice, low confidence, or are simply introverted. Because people don't always hear my quiet voice I think that being a convention artist and comic artist could be a great way to share what I'm about while I'm still learning to be loud in this noisy world. ☺
this appeared on my recommended page and I never felt more grateful tbh, the way you talk about comics inspired me to try and make a tiny zine,, thank you for the inspo ! your excitement is very contagious !
Minis and zines are something i have a hard time finding at the events i go to. I still have a ton from when i was in college tho. I recently started making my own again since i miss it.
Thank you for this video! I have tried making comics in the past but have doubted myself because my head always tells me, I’m not good enough, but I came across this video and am now making mini comics! And I am really enjoying it! So thank you!
OMG, homemade Zines are high production value but are made with very low low budget.... Let's face it, some Zines are more interesting to get than those regular magazines sold in supermarkets, news stand, etc... Zines are fun to look at....
Interesting video. I’ve just started learning about zines. So this was very enjoyable. Good luck on your someday future zine and comic coffee shop. It sounds terrific. I hope you do it.
Those look like fun projects to do. I'm currently making a full 22 page comic, but I am inspired to try mini comics like the ones shown in the video after I'm done with my current project.
TY SO MUCH FOR THIS VID!!! I've seen other collections in the past from Donkey Jaw Comics and somewhere else but I'm 3 pages into mine and can't wait to check out your tutorials!!
Trying to figure out how to draw small size I can't do reductions cause I have limited funds and I an a very talented artist I have to fit the art on a one sided 8 by 11 size paper
Since you saw a lot more zines than me, I'm almost done with mine, it is possible for me to show you a mini video of it and have your opinion on it? 😳🖤 it's an art zine, the theme is Faces

High time someone delineated between these three, confusion typically runs rampant
I really enjoyed this!.
I too want to have a cafe in my hometown, Bangalore, or in Mysore where people can read from my library and I can serve them native cuisine :)
Love your Pickin n Peelin Zine. I live in Louisiana. Is there any way to buy a copy?
So when image made a bunch of ash cans was that to build relationships in the comic business?
I would be interested in contributing to a zine with you. You love the form and I dig the mini comics format. “Egalitarian communication” love that.

I wanna make mini comics now. Don't know why. What could be the reason. I wonder.
Your a good artist why are your interiors a lot more impressive and detailed than your covers?
