I have a decent job and can afford a lot. The worlds opened up so much and I’ve been to go to other countries, stay in great places and have really cool experiences. It is worth it, but didn’t come without risk, discomfort and sacrifice. Don’t lose hope. It doesn’t happen instantly

I’m not sure that it’s true that you can’t afford anything if you have a decent income. Inflation will always play a role but it’s also about the money choices we all make, what we prioritise, and what we save for. It’s not easy but I think some of these TikTok videos make it seem like there’s no hope and nothing anyone can do. That’s just not true.

    • @dissociatedSoul

@@mariancounsellor for a single person w a decent job, sure. It's prob not as hard.
With kids though, it's become way harder. I used to be able to cover rent, utilities, child care ECT, on one income.
Now we've had to move back in w my dad since he went on disability. So, what's true for some, may not be true for everyone. Doesn't mean it just "isn't true"

The only reason us Boomers got up and went to work every day for all of these years was because, we had NO CHOICE! We tried to find the least crappy job, and we lived for the weekend and vacation time. Then when you have children, well then you will do ANYTHING to provide for your kids. You hope and pray that one day your children will be able to live a better life than you did. So don't be too hard on us boomers. We did it for our kids and spouses. It is called love.

My boomer dad worked so much I barely saw him. Went to work before I woke up and got home after I went to sleep. I know he had it rough but never complained. Always thankful for the overtime so he can provide for us. I agree your generation had it rough too. Biggest problem for these generation is its really hard to find a well paying job to pay for all your needs.

First dude has a really good point, I would show up to work at about 5:45 in the morning in a good, or at least decent, mood. And within the first 5 minutes of being there, I could hear my coworkers bitching. Just complain all day every day, and never do anything to improve whatever bothers them. It creates such a negative environment and drain on you constantly.

I am an old millenial, close to GenX. I knew since a young age something wasn't right since school and into workforce. I would get so physically, mentally sick, I was forced to leave various jobs. I am so freakin happy these younger generations are speaking and acting on this messed up system. We are not meant to do this, Spain has siestas in middle of day. Healthy food is obtainable in several other countries. We're here to work our butts off and be sick for the rich to gain from pharmaca. You're waking people up. Keep doing what you do. I am so exhausted. And thank you.

I remember feeling worn out, beat down, and tired way back in 2008. I was working in corporate and I was in my late twenties early thirties.
I had a corporate job where I had to come into the office 2 days a week and I got to work from home 3 days a week and I still hated it. Not to mention the job that I worked at always made sure that they threw in our faces that they could take our work from home privileges away if we didn't do what they wanted us to do and keep our quality assurance scores up.
I remember hating management and everybody that I worked with and hating my life. I also remember wanting to just be a janitor instead of working a corporate job. It's real folks. You just get tired and you just don't GAF anymore.
Not to mention Uncle Sam was taking so much from me that I had to have two side hustles in addition to my full-time job just to survive and maybe go on a vacation or two.
I started doing gig work in the housekeeping field around 2011 and I never looked back. Nowadays I just do food delivery and although it is really inconsistent money at times especially since the economy is pretty much going down the crapper I'm still Leaps and Bounds happier than I was when I worked corporate job.
Living this way has taught me to manage my money and to make better decisions with the times that I get more money versus the times when I'm not getting as much money. That way I can take as much time off when I get burnt out and I still have money to cover everything I need to cover.
The problem is most people are burnt out and they're trying to forcefully keep working through the burnout (because they have to) and that never ends well...

I am tired of the 9-5. Even when you put your all into it they can just fire you because they don’t like you. My coworker and I were both just fired the 13th for no reason. They stated “non-performance” but we built up the clinic as medical assistants all by ourselves straight outta school. All because we told them we needed more help. They hired new people instead of helping us succeed. I feel happier that I’m out because of how they treated us. But now I have to figure out how to pay bills all because they wanted to be cheap and hire someone else instead of trying to help us. I never wanted a job. I want to be a stay at home mother. That’s my only goal in life.

Our current version of society was built to force the maximum amount of people into productivity. 90% of these jobs don’t benefit you as much as they benefit the CEO, Shareholders, Governments who owns the rights to sell your labor. So the problem isn’t work, it’s that our work doesn’t directly benefit the people who do it.
People can redo your entire roof in a day, the company charges $15,000 for the job, the company pays you pennies - material costs. Multiply that by 100’s of jobs a year and dozens of different teams, You go home with 60k at the end of the year but the CEO goes home with millions.
The CEO can’t exist without the workers, but the workers can exist without the CEO. We’d probably run things ourselves better than some imaginary authority that we choose to give our power to. Power corrupts.

Not many people jump out of bed singing and excited to go to work BUT this is the real world. Work hard, be kind, change your attitude. You are not that special. There is always a better more deserving person waiting in the wings ready to take your job and make it work.

"I don't be having the mental capacity to sit at somebody else's job for 8 hours a day. I have a very low attention span and half the time I just don't be paying attention." Good god, it's amazing how people will blast their shortcomings to the world when they're in front of a camera. And none of them seem to have the mental capacity PERIOD to understand that you're trading time for money. You don't need money? Then don't work. You want to work for yourself and believe you won't be working your ass off anyway? Good luck with that. Most times you're working even longer hours when it's for your own business. We've become a society of entitled little cry babies that want everything for nothing, and then they'll sit in front of a camera and complain to the world about it. The world owes you nothing. Grow up.

Yes! These new generations need to understand that life is hard and unfair. No one ever said it would be easy. We all have to suck it up and work if we don’t want to live with our parents forever or on the street. Gen z needs to watch reality bites and have a wake up call. ‘The world doesn’t owe you any favors’ -Lelaina

As a genXer I have two things to say: 1) ofc no one wants to work, no one ever has. How else do you pay for your housing, bills and provide for yourself and whatever dependents you may have. There's a reason it's called "work" and not "fun time recess". and 2) As someone who had work in various jobs including but, not limited to office work, I dare these adults (who come off sounding like little brats) to spend not even a full shift, but half a shift working in a nursing home as a healthcare aide. They'll see real quick how the desk job office wasn't so bad after all.
