this is a dream find. The 1973 Super Duty is my all-time favorite car. I remember seeing one in front of a neighbors house only a couple blocks from mine in high school. Accidentally saw it during drivers training class. I would walk by it every day and fantasized about somehow owning it. Still my wish to get one myself.
Suggest you read my comment. Especially related to what you can do today to quench your thirst for something like a SD. Owned SD, now moved 21st century. You might be surprised.

Great find! Sorry to hear the owner passed on. I think i ve seen this car on a t-v car show a long time ago with the 70-72 stripes on a 73. Works well, could have been stock. You guys do a great job keeping the Pontiac and all the musclecar spirits alive. Best days i've ever had were in high school in the seventies cruisin in my 70 lucerne blue ram air 3, 4 speed trans am .Hope to be joining you soon in a bandit run with one of my S Es. Happy holidays and take care 🎄
I remember I could have bought the twin to this T/A for 7500.00 back in 1992. All stock new paint and stripes and a fresh SD 455. It was 98 % done... All stock...Just some trim and interior completion. I was a beast. I foolishly passed on it and bought a 66 GTO instead... This was quite a machine !
That is as good as it gets. The 73 is the best looking car for my taste because you can get it in red. I told you I wanted the blue 72 in my garage, want the 73 even more. My first new car was a 74 Sd 455. i kept it until 2000 and wish I still had it. The 69-74 trans ams are the best of the best.
Very nice car and great video. In 1981 I drove a Brewster green SD. My dad was a mechanic and it was brought to him to tune up because it was running poor. He did all the usual plugs, cap, rotor, and then adjusting, but it still ran rough and rich. So, wires, just in case and a carb rebuild. The Quadrajet was doing the things Quadrajets do with age, but dad was good with them. Anyways, that fixed it and he handed me the keys and said go test it. Up to this point in my little over a year licensing, the fastest car I had driven was a '70 Torino station wagon, that was my main ride. VW Beetles and a Karmann Ghia were my other choices, along with an occasional test drive of some mundane car he might be working on, usually a VW. So, I took the car down the road to another street that has a long stretch about a mile and half long. I drove it normally for the most part to the end where I turned around. Then I waited for a good space in traffic and nailed it. Well, it went everywhere but straight and I was looking like one of today's cars and coffee Mustangs. Fortunately, there were no curbs, and no other cars, and I lifted enough to go straight. Before I knew it, 120 was up and I started slowing down. Now I know many cars today are as quick and faster, but in 1981, a few factory cars and modified ones were the only cars that quick.
it was quick alright yikes! Tony let me drive his SD 455 TA across the street to the Bar. I was an extremely nervous 22 year old, barely knew how to drive a stick. THERE WAS SO MUCH POWER SHAKING THE HOOD I got scared lol! I was not allowed to do a burn out. If I had I probably would of crashed it lol
Wow ! What a great video and story ! Wonderful family. That had to be heartbreaking letting go of that car / obviously Steve's pride and joy. Such sweet people. Got kinda teared up 😢 ! Lucky new owner tho. Hope u do her well ! 🙏
I'm heartbroken after seeing this. I remember I had seen this car in another video where the owner was interviewed. Cars are more than money to some of us, they are fun times, they evoke memories with loved ones, they have a piece of us and our souls. I'm sad that this car was not kept in the family and passed down on to a son or grandson to enjoy. The episode was not over and the car was already with the original decals, I'm sure the owner was not enjoying watching that. Now all the stories and the reflection of Steve's personality is getting stripped out of the car and it will now get sold to some collector for high $ as it is an SD, will probably rarely see the roads again and much less be raced and enjoyed. So sad. I understand it is your business and you are doing the best for your interest, but at the same time it is just a reminder of how short our time on earth is and that once we are gone, we are not taking anything with us. I hope the day I die I will have a son who would actually like to keep my cars and every time that he rides on one of them, he would feel my soul sitting right next to him smiling. Rest in peace fellow car guy and T/A lover.
I am the daughter of the original owner of this car. This was my Dad's. I am not heartbroken, so I am not sure why you would be? In fact, this car will be in the hands of one of the greatest collectors in the world. Our family wanted this car to be taken care of in the very best way possible. We, his children, knew that we were not going to be able to do this in the way that Dave could. I helped facilitate this with Dave, and put my Dad in touch with Dave prior to his passing. Dave, and his assistant Dillon, made this video out of respect for my father and to preserve my father's legacy with this car. Dave wanted to make this video out of respect for the shared passion for the 455 SD Trans Am between him and my father. This video is out of respect for our family, especially my Dad. The preservation of my Dad's car will stay with Dave for his personal collection and not be resold. We have access to go see this car- to drive this car, as well as generations of family members whenever we like. There is no sadness here, other than the loss of life of my father.
@@jennydager hello Jenny, sorry I did not mean to be disrespectful. I’m sorry for your loss and glad the car will be well taken care of. I apologize and my condolences to you and your family again.
Hi guys, usually like your show, but I've got to say, I think you did a big disservice to Steve by undoing all that he had done to make the car his own, and thus erasing the wonderful provenance of the car. Especially one with such a unique and rich history. Now your just making it 1 of 180 SD produced... still rare, but it was even more rare before.
I had a '72 Trans Am back in the mid-80's. I knew it was a mistake to sell it at the time, but being a broke college student I didn't see another choice. I still miss that car.
When i was a kid, my summer time neighbor had one of these as his daily 👍 I never really knew how rare it was, just knew it had hd or sd on the hood and that was different. Same colors though
When my gpa died back in 1980ish, my dad got a 78 z28 and my uncle got a 1973 trans am with the 455. It is white with blue stripe like what was here. Can't remember but I think it did have a bird on the hood. It was a show car. My dad says when they would race the Z28 smoked the TA until it got to around 140. At that point the TA just got up and ran away. He is in the process of restoration.
The story about him ditching the cops in his Trans Am sounds like the scene in Smokey and the Bandit when Burt Reynolds did basically the same thing hiding behind a building. LOL
Unfortunately Steve didn’t know that removing a screw on the secondaries would ave given his 71 TA full access to THE FULL HP the motor had. Pontiac did that on purpose to allow the GTO from a stock perspective to out perform the TA. some guy back in the day put an 850 Holley on the 455 HO and ,an did it make a big difference. However these secrets didn’t come out until years later. But, the 73 is an awesome car. I have a 75 Formula that has been transformed from a cub to a full Tiger, and the heart of the car beats a 455 / 472 Pontiac motor based on Butlers performance specs backed by a 5 speed Tremic and a 342 rear gear. There is a lot more done to it, but this story isn’t about me. Love the car, love the family, and the man who loved the car. Awesome story. Recast in peace.
I think you miss-understood my intent and taking it personal , and that’s understandable. The information that I’m talking about wasn’t available in 71 to anyone outside of Pontiac engineers. Do you know if he knew that? And if he did okay please accept my apology. I’ve been around Pontiac performance for over 40 years and found out about this information 10 years ago written in high performance Pontiac magazine which is not in publication any more. Again, lots of respect to your dad. Wish I could have met him.
My brother had a Green SD 4 speed car. Bought the car brand new from a dealer in Bay Shore Long Island NY. Dealer kept telling him the car wasn’t coming in, but he wouldn’t cancel the order. He finally got the car in 74. Sold it in the early 80s to gentleman from Pennsylvania for 12k. Car only had about 5 thousand miles on it. Would like to know what became of it if anyone knows. The car was sold from Kings Park Long Island in the early 80s.
Very sorry for the family to have this on them ! This fella was exactly like me ! Collected the same things ! Garage kept pretty much identical even down to the RICHARD PETTY #43 collectibles! I’m a huge KING RICHARD guy . Sad for me to watch this I have all these decals he has gathered over the years too 😞 I can’t believe this , I see myself here and see my family having to do the same one day with my T/A ..very sad ‼️ wish I knew this fella as me and him are brothers from another mothers
I feel you brother, I hope your doing well, I'm sure these videos like this & some of the ones Dennis does have a lot of real car guys feeling the same, but atleast the right guy got this one
I have a story. 1980 cashiering at a corner gas station. Tony comes to get gas in his '73 SD 455 ho 4 spd white with bird on the front. He had just spent $200.00 on a new L exhaust manifold bc his had cracked. Said it took him a month to find one. I knew what he was driving so i offered to pour a little motor oil in front of his rear tires in anticipation of a cool burn out! When he was leaving I begged him to do a burn out. He said ok. He hit it hard... so much smoke i could not see the car after 2nd gear. I could hear him Chirp the 3rd gear before he got too far away down the road. After the smoke cleared I walked out to the rubber marks. BOTH TIRES BURNED RUBBER FOR 75 STEPS in an 11 size shoe!
Back around '77 I knew a guy who had a Formula 455-SD in red and that car was fast. Then I had another buddy who thought he bought a 326 to replace his blown 350 in his '69 Firebird and when that motor spun a bearing from over revving he tore it down to have it rebuilt and it turned out to be a 455-SD and not a 326. Now I have a buddy with the last year '74 T/A with a 455-SD and 4 speed. Only 212 of those. GM put out a fake ad stating Pontiac is coming back but, who knows maybe they will. P.S. Pontiac claimed these had around 290 H.P. for insurance but, I think they were closer to 400 H.P.
There one more it's in Australia,it was the factory experiment car the first oneComments It's in the preproduction It is Red with a tan interior it was converted to RHd now its LHD I bought the rhd dash as a wall hanger here in the USA so there's actually 253 SD confirmed
Haven’t seen this show before but my skin absolutely crawls when I watch this guy’s eyes and see them only light up when thinking about getting that rare Super Duty out of there - he doesn’t even know how to speak to the family in a sincere and compassionate way about the man who preserved the car so that a predatory profiteer like himself can flip it for an extra 100 grand. I know that many of my fellow Americans have becoming followers and thus worship these dealer/flippers and their collector-investor buddies but they have decimated any possibility for those of hobbyists who have saved their entire lives to find or afford a single decent vintage car; parts for that car; or affordable mechanics to do the work. It’s not hard to see they are doing the same to our ability find affordable housing --- even the elderly poor are having their rents doubled at trailer parks and end up eventually thrown into the street so that these slimey takers can buy a $200,000 musclecar. Maybe that “church” y’all used to talk about was not so bad - you should listen to what the minister says and then wipe your consciences.
Sad to hear of his passing. Unfortunately, this car does need to be converted back to original since it is an original SD car and not some ordinary custom car. Now, if, the car was a regular T/A and he somehow found an SD motor to put in it as a clone, then I would want to leave it the way it is.
I had a 1973 Brewster Green D port 455 Trans Am back in mid 1990's and found a 1974 455 Super Duty motor that I swapped into it, def more power than that d port motor, lol. I regret selling that car most in my life.....also wish I had kept one of the many 1986/87 Grand National/turbo Regals. Both great cars but just that SD motor would be worth a mint today. Even just a D port 455 1973 TA is worth a lot. Oh well, at least I have fond memories of those cars and the fun daily driving them while I had them.
@@gregallen9065suggest you go 21st century vehicles before these are banned. I had real, stock from factory SD. Check my comment. I added reasons why my current choices ended the lust for the SD (or anything 20th century). Times have changed and move forward. You still have the yearning, if you want, check my comment.
@@74SD455TA I have owned 13 of those things.. back when you can buy them for 5-6 K. Currently own new hellcat… WAY more fun! Those old girls were rattle traps and cheaply made…
@@Mrdiver001 Not really, the roads were bad in many states and that was a huge problem, I own a few gems from AZ that rode on good roads and they are tight as a you know what....And, it wasn't so much that they were cheaply made, it was more that they weren't held to account so they got away with poor quality control however that was easily dealt with as an owner . Hellcat, Yeah, OK happy for you (heavy aren't they?), I have a 2013 GT 500 that started it all again that ROCKS....Finally I also own a 2015 Ferrari Italia 458 Speciale Aperta (limited edition) will out run your hellcat with the Shelby staring right at you. I can't speak for your Ferrari, but I can certainly speak for the Trans Ams...
@@lonmcq7317 Sorry too my friend that yours was a rattle trap. Mine is not and it doesn't even have a radio in it so you hear everything. Mine runs about 12 flat so, consider IF you were to put a SUPERCHARGER on it OR a turbo set up, the Trans Am would blow em out. Recall the Shelby GT 500 for 2013 was the FIRST one out of the gates to re establish the new muscle car era with its supercharger and at 662 HP, not too shabby. I enjoy them all, I have no favorites and I defend nothing. My Ferrari might ha ha. 14.5 to 1 direct injection compression, 5.12 rear end 7 speed 200 MPH and a mid 10 second quarter. Will out handler that Mopar with its eyes closed. The hell cat, while OK, is still a Chrysler tho, and that doesn't wipe clean.
Correct, GM would not put a A/C in the 1973/1974 Super Duty Trans Ams and Formula's if you ordered a 4 speed. Also, with the A/C, you were given a gear ratio of 3.08 versus 3.42 for the non A/C car which is much more preferred. A/C sucks in these cars, big, heavy, gets in the way, didn't work very well anyhow, notice on this one that the compressor was removed.
My 73 Formula is going to be in a trust. My bastard family wont be able to sell it to get redneck rich for a few months. The Car will be passed down through the generations. Great for RAMC but super shitty for the family that the car their pop loved is gone forever.
My cousin Genie R.I.P, had a friend with a 72 Formula,I could have bought it for years,& now the $4500 he was asking ain't too shabby especially the condition of the car...I did have a 76'T/A 400 Carousel Red (hugger orange)

@@restoreamusclecar I'm not sure I understand? What's sad? You made out like a bandit.
The 73 did not have the body stripe option. Correct me if I'm wrong. Beautiful car btw. My all time dream over all dreams.. The 73 SD-455
As you may have noticed, many things on this car are not original, the stripe kit is one of those things.
How much steal it for?
Dave's the guy I would want to have go through this for my wife if in the same position.
What's the update on this car?
I could only wish
I believe they're a TH-cam video of him & the car I watched years ago
Yes you did it was on ScottieD youtube th-cam.com/video/-6UHj1TWsMw/w-d-xo.html
I like everything but the wheels.
Cool , No just bad !
He floated it when he started it
Just surprised none of the sons wanted it
Probably did want it. But I assume selling it would help more just for funds and what not.
Love the old ones, but would NEVER pay what I’m sure they paid..
Then you will never own one
Not to mention the SD 455 Trans Am that is now set up the way GM engineers envisioned Knock on the 11 second drawer. Enjoy! I enjoy em all!
@@74SD455TA Sorry, friend... I have also had several Trans Ams, love 'em to death, but they ARE rattletraps, and the SD was a 13.5 second car... No slouch at all, but sadly, a 392 Challenger would put that away in a block... I have a neighbor with GT500, quite a beauty, but a match for the Hellcat???... Hell no...
So my question is this car had a Automatic originally and now has a 4spd. Air and 4spd could not order from Pontiac that way.
Here is a prior 9 year old interview done by ScottieDTV th-cam.com/video/-6UHj1TWsMw/w-d-xo.html
This is my dream car not an LS6 SS not the 429 mustang none of those awesome cars this is the CAR
Sweet car miss mine!! Wish I kept it
My 73 Formula is going to be in a trust. My bastard family wont be able to sell it to get redneck rich for a few months. The Car will be passed down through the generations. Great for RAMC but super shitty for the family that the car their pop loved is gone forever.
Smart move… 💯right thing to do.
My cousin Genie R.I.P, had a friend with a 72 Formula,I could have bought it for years,& now the $4500 he was asking ain't too shabby especially the condition of the car...I did have a 76'T/A 400 Carousel Red (hugger orange)
Why do I feel he stole all that stuff from them?
Shut
Rescue it ‼️😝 Huh 🤔 you should see mine 😂 a 1980 ..this T/A IS SHOWROOM NEXT TO MY JUNKER !
My Mom had a 79' or 80', Blue on Blue,...I had a 76' Carousel Red project
