    I've been doing the syphon method for a couple of years. I actually get into the pool first, and run around in circles; the debris will settle into the centre of the pool, then I just syphon the debris out. Easy peasy, no cleaning filters every two minutes!

      Man I’ve been struggling for the last two months trying to find a vacuum that picks up dust dirt that cannot be picked up. And my filtration system is too weak to suck up the stuff on the bottom of the pool and was about to spend thousands of dollars on a better pump going to buy the stuff to siphon out my pool

      @@BigSloe3075 I scrub down the walls and bottom of the pool first, then run in circles and get out. In about an hour, you'll see the debris mostly on the bottom of the pool, in the centre. Git in and start your syphon! I syphon my pool water out onto my lawn, away from my house.

      Also, if you want to extend the life of your filters. go to the dollar store and get knee-high hosiery (not socks). Pull one over your filter cartridge and put the cartridge where it belongs. Remember to check the cartridge daily (or more often, depending on what's in the pool besides people, lol). When you pull out the cartridge, you will find all kinds of crap caught on the outside of the hosiery. Pull that off, rinse till the water is clear, do the same with the actual filter. I have filters which are three or more years old. I clean and replace my hosiery-covered cartridges daily, and that's meant I have spent MUCH less on those expensive cartridges.

    OMG. I feel your pain in getting the hose to suction. If you take a quart mason jar, dip it in the pool to fill it with water, then put the end of the hose down into it. You can hold the hose in the water filled jar and sit it on the ground, it will pull the water. It works! thanks for the tips.

    I use this method. The only thing I do different is stretch the hose furthest away from pool. Use my shop vac to start suction and drain away from pool area. If you drain near the pool, eventually the ground will sink periodically causing unlevel pool. Great video !!!

    Thank you Ken for posting this video! I usually don’t comment on videos, but I had to on this one! I used this method to clean out my above ground pool today after I had put floc in it yesterday and it worked! If only I had seen this video from months ago, I could have been enjoying my pool and saving some money as well. I couldn’t get the siphoning to start at first so I shortened the hose. Once it started, I added the additional hoses that were previously removed. Thanks again Ken! This video DEFINITELY helped me out!

    Yes!!!!! Thank you Ken! Came back from vacation and pool had algae all over the bottom. Attempted this several times, no luck. Thought about emptying pool and refilling! But after watching this, I got it and did the whole pool fairly quickly (18’ pool). The hose got heavy but otherwise this worked like a charm. Didn’t lose that much water either. I did put hose on jet and filled it up, as soon as I threw the hose out the siphoning started! Thank you!

    If you live in a city that kills you on the water bill ask your water company for a meter. It connects through the hose & you won't get the double charge for sewer on water that you use to fill or top off your pool. I live in New Jersey & I get a bill around $300 to fill my pool after the winter or if I refill it after I backwash it siphon out alot of water. Thank you Ken for this. I wish I saw this before I ran my filter for 12 hours)& constantly backwashing it. It would if been alot cheaper if I vacuumed out all the heavy green algae on the bottom of the pool. Thank you

    Thanks for taking the time to show us. We had a sand filter that came with the pool, and at some point, one or more of the internal laterals cracked, putting sand into the pool. We bought a new hayward pump, (not sand) and now of course we are trying everything to vacuum up the sand that you cant seem to get it all. We also have a pool blaster FX8, and even that doesnt get all the sand, let alone the motor went out just the other day! So this gives us hope before purchasing another vacuum!

  • @elizabethdunkelbarger8581
    @elizabethdunkelbarger8581 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I want to add that for my 16 ft pool, I ended up not even using the pool vacuum at first... my pump wasn't strong enough to work the regular vacuum when the pool was at 4 inches, but.. but with my garden hose, I could run water first into the pool and then disconnect the end out of the pool and siphon off the water that way... effectively making my garden hose a small vacuum... it took time, but I WAS able to vacuum most of the dark green algae out of my pool that way, so that when I filled the pool the water was clean.. it was slow and a work out, but it did work. Also, in doing this, I first skimmed EVERYTHING the skimmer net would catch... EVERYTHING, even small seeds... all that was left to vacuum was dirt and algae... and I knew if I left this, that it would grow when I filled the pool... I also drain my pool with the same method, in the fall, when I want to drain it down lower than the inlets. Next to where my pool end comes is my drain that leads to the street underground, so I have no trouble with soggy land, no mud and no soggy grass....

    I wanted to let you know your video really helped me. Our pool had algae on the bottom and I used your method to make it sparkle. It was difficult for the vacuum to start by putting the hose over the side. So I put all the vacuum hose in the water then suck on the hose to get the siphon started.

    This works, but be aware you lose a ton of water with this method. You can get an attachment called a skimmer plate that you attach to the end of your hose and then put into your skimmer. This provides the suction you need and your filter will grab the dirt without losing any water.

I was thinking about connecting the faucet end of the hose to the drain on the pool and see if that creates the suction then that way you're just circulating the same water instead of adding or removing water

    Still trying to figure out what I need to get to do this but it looks great. I'm hoping it gets rid of the tiny dust particles too cos they drive me nuts.
    Just a suggestion but if you syphon from the pool to a holding tank with a fine mesh cover to collect all the debris, could you then double syphon from that back into the pool to save your water? Like I say I'm still figuring stuff out but thanks for the video.

      You would have to pump the collected water back into the pool. When you siphon, water goes from high to low. To get it to go from low to high, you have to lift/pump it.

    Ok so how about this if I take the hose that sucks the water out of the pool leave one end connected to the pump and put the other end over the side of the pool so that I can manually direct it where I want it to suck. And disconnect the hose that pumps the water back into the pool at the the pool end so I can direct in what way I want that water to go. So the water isn't pumping back into the pool it's drainingxinto the grass or rocks. Won't that work? I'll let you all know
