    What a beauty ! 76 was the last of the Big Boy Caddy's !! I bought one in 85 from a one owner senior couple ! Kept it for seven years before my growing family forced sale !! Had some great cruise's in that rig ! Had the big 500 GM engine so it wasn't too good on the MPGs ! About 17 mpg on the freeway and maybe 10 mpg city driving !!! But with the 24 gallon gas tank you could usually do Spokane to Seattle without refueling but that was cutting it close !! One finger steering and LEANING on that armrest !!!

    Hey Anthony, I realize this video it's 2 years ago, but I am seeing it for the first time, and I am happy that you shared it with me. I had a 68 Firebird convertible, just a 350 2 barrel carb, but it had a tired looking factory green metallic that alot of the Pontiac's did back in the day. This is in 76, and I saw a Caddy like this at a dealership, loved the Firethorn Red Metallic color with the White Landau top, got my paint guys to change that Firebird to exactly that color, I remember that the paint was pricey, but after we painted it, put a new white top on it, that car popped, but I always wanted to have a Caddy like those colors, thank you for putting a smile on my face, I got let go from my job of 30 years yesterday and I was feeling low, you perked me up a little, thanks!

    Sweet ride so much detail and a real trunk not the tiny trunks you get with the small plastic crap toy cars you spend a bundle on today.

    My first car was a 1976 Fleetwood Brougham sixty special and it had every available option for that year including the fuel injection system, Trackmaster anti-lock brakes, and the air cushion restraint system. That was quite a car especially for the mid-70s. I bought it in 1987 and drove it into the mid-90s and the fuel injection system, mine was all still original, never gave me any problems

    How many times did the guy say "absolutely beautiful car"? It is very nice. I so long for the days when a car was really a car. 1976 was the last year for the GM really large cars. Most cars were downsized for the 1977 model year. The Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado and Buick Rivera went on two more years as large cars then we're downsized for the 1979 model years. The 1st generation of the downsized large cars are still pretty big by 2019 standards. I enjoyed the video. Nice the go back down memory lane a see what cars used to be like. There's nothing special about today's cars. Just a bunch of plastic parts with a lot of electronic gadgets.

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The downsized versions proved highly successful, though, and they were quite large by today's standards, as you aptly pointed out. I had a 77 an 81 Olds 98, and a 78 Buick Electra Limited. Riding in them was very enjoyable, and they swallowed a lot of cargo, too. Very good-looking cars, too. I agree that today's cars are undistinguished (and indistinguishable!), and full of plastic and unnecessary electronics.

    a guy gave me this car in 1986 for painting his house. i got it painted the above color and drove it for a year on all my dates. women loved it. then my father borrowed it and dented it trying to pull into a gated parking lot. then the electrics started to go, the transmission fluid seemed to drain out when parked. a black guy i worked with had to have it, so i sold it to him for $850. it was a really great car, with miscellaneous problems. i was hardly driving it at the time, old triumph motorcycles, a van, and my pickup replaced it.

    That hood alone probably weighs more than most modern cars! I remember when these cars were all over the place. Finding one now, especially in that condition, is a very big deal. Cadillac lost its way about 20 years ago and has not come out with anything stately since.

    • @hakeemsd70m
      @hakeemsd70m 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cadillac had some really nice cars 20 years ago, a lot better than the wannabe import trash they make now. actually lost their way when they started shrinking their cars and giving them hard seats, rock hard suspensions, and tight handling. I wouldn't touch a Caddy made after the 2011 DTS.

      @@paulparoma Yes indeed. But you're totally right about this classic 76 Coupe deVille! So much ornate detail and chrome, I'm a big chrome bumpers, to the chrome trim, to the hood ornament, to the wire wheels, a beautiful car! This car is a work of art. Today's cars are soulless appliances in comparison.

    • @paulparoma
      @paulparoma 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@hakeemsd70m I know. They are so unremarkable today and catering to a completely different type of buyer. American luxury cars used to be about comfort, grandeur and style, made for people who wanted exactly that. Today, luxury is all about "performance and handling" as if we have more room on the roads for all that nonsense. And style? Everything has to be aggressive, not elegant. Pretty pathetic, isn't it?

    Fuel injection in these big Cadillacs during the 70s was very rare. I believe it is a Bosch EFI system.

    • @andythrasher5789
      @andythrasher5789 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was some Bosch components, TPS, Fuel pump (bosch), married to an analog Bendix ECU (analog fuel injection). Used a coolant , and MAT sensor which were interchangable. Injectors were Bendix too as I recall. It was a mixture of components and the Caddies I owned with it none of them really ran that good , and got awful fuel mileage to boot. Lots of rough running, and you would just be chasing an endless loop with that fuel injection system. Also it ESC (electronic spark control) which further made a mess of things on those cars. I did have on Caddie that ran strong though with it, and it was a 1979 Seville with the olds 350 - last version which had also added an o2 sensor for improved MPG. I was lucky to get 24 on some long cruising road trips in that car - which was a fluke. The very last Caddy I had with this system, was a 1979 Eldorado , and I actually took the time to convert to run on a more modern-ish ECU , injectors and TPS which was Megasquirt EFI. That car ran remarkable but 18 MPG was about all it could swing on highway runs. But it sure ran strong.
