My Protestant Experience of The Holy Fire 2017

  • In 2017, I got a ticket from the Greek Patriarchate to attend the Miracle of Holy Fire Ceremony with a friend of mine who is a professional videographer. We were given incredible access and I stood 15 feet from Christ's tomb for most of the ceremony.
    This is my experience.

Haris Skarlakidis in this book talks about how even Muslim authorities were skeptical as to whether or not there were lighters or candles used to light the candles rather than the supernatural behind the lighting of the candles. Yet even back then they couldn't disprove the miracle!

    • @danielbrowniel

One of the patriach assistants or whatever they are called confessed that they light a lamp right before the patriarch walks in. I don't know why you wouldn't trust the word of one of the few people allowed to go in immediately after the door is unsealed?
I'm surprised they would lie. And I'm annoyed people wave fire around on their hands and claim it doesn't burn them, you can do that with any fire.
And coming from me, I'm not an atheist I do not deny the power of God, I have experienced miraculous things.
I was skeptical of this from the beginning, It is unlike the God I know to be predictable, rather God's works have a tendency to be mysterious and either deeply personal or wide reaching prophetic words that span decades, centuries, millenia.
When Christ returns He rejects people that call themselves Christians yet He calls them lawless. Is a liar lawless? Yes. What damage would a Christian liar do? whether it is an orthodox priest pretending a miracle or a Charasmatic pretending a miracle, in both cases you can kill someone's faith because they foolishly put their faith on someone's lies rather than God.

We’ll done! During Covid that church was completely vacant of visitors except for a few of the Armenian clergy and of course the Greek orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem. One of the cameras was trained on a side window while yhe Patriarch was inside. I could see inside the tomb area through a side window. There were a couple of instances I saw a blue glowing light appear while the Armenian delegate could be seen inside looking down toward the stone where the Greek orthodox patriarch was kneeling. A few minutes later the Patriarch appeared with the two bundles of candles and the Holy Fire. I took a couple screenshots of the blue light and saved them on my phone. It was 3:15 AM in California and something compelled me to see what was going on at the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. I am glad I did! Kristos Anesti (Christ is Risen!)

The Greek Orthodox Church is criticised by many new age Christian denominations because we believe in the grace of God and doing the will of God through acts of kindness. The new age Christian churches believe that you are saved through your relationship with God alone. The irony of this debacle is that God himself bestow's the tradition of the Holy Fire to manifest itself.

In 2010 in Michigan, I happened to run I to a video clip of the fire DESCENDING from in front of the tomb. I had to pause and rewound it to see if that was real. The Fire came from above outside the tomb, and to this day I haven't run into that clip again. I still wonder if it is real, hoping to witness that someday.

The Holy Scripture was firstly written in Aramean, Christ's native language. ( Christ was NOT a jew !! ) Logically, the honour of lighting the Holy Fire should go to the Arameic Orthodox Priest.

Fire is used a lot in the Bible, and in the same way we use it a lot in real life. Just like in real life fire can be pleasant or discomforting. We could say "Spending a cozy evening by the fire" or "our cities are on fire" and they mean different things. In the same way is our afterlife, the fire of God will burn on everyone living and dead and we will either view it is as good thing if we follow God, or evil if we follow choose not to.

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex-monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.
If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIIl in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to re-marry.
If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.
If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.
If you are Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England, founded by Samuel Senbury in the American colonies in the 17th century.
If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1606.
If you are of the Dutch Reformed Church, you recognize Michelis Jones as founder because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.
If you are a Methodist, your religion was founded by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1774.
If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, New York, in 1829.
If you worship with the Salvation Army, your
sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.
If you are Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.
If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as "Church of the Nazarene", "Pentecostal Gospel", "Holiness Church", or "Jehovah's Witnesses", your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past hundred years.
If you are Roman Catholic, your church shared the same rich apostolic and doctrinal heritage as the Orthodox Church for the first thousand years of its history, since during the first millennium they were one and the same Church. Lamentably, in 1054, the Pope of Rome broke away from the other four Apostolic Patriarchates (which include Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem), by tampering with the Original Creed of the Church, and considering himself to be infallible. Thus your church is 1,000 years old.
If you are ORTHODOX Christian, your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It has not changed since that time. Our church is now almost 2,000 years old. And it is for this reason, that Orthodoxy, the Church of the Apostles and the Fathers is considered the true "one Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church." This is the greatest legacy that we can pass on to the young people of the new millennium.

Yeah, I would rather experience something “spiritual” rather than something physical like, for instance, the bodily resurrection of Jesus, the God-Man, or, let’s say, tongues of fire, like at Pentecost. Are you beginning to understand how ignorant your comment is? The Holy Fire/Light is the UNCREATED divine grace of God. The Scriptures say “God is light.”

      @@orthodoxywenatchee2293 you are right
it's about Pentecost. as Christ had commandEd his disciples before He left us for His heavenly abode He said the holy spirit will desend unto you after I ascend. you will receive great power and heal in my name. Thus on the day of Pentecost, in the upper room at Jerusalem ,this miracle took place upon them. from then on the holy fire spread across the land, by the disciples of Christ.

This has been happening for over 1600 years, since right after Christianity was legalized and the original church was built. 1600 years ago you were either Orthodox (including the bishop of Rome, there were some really devout and saintly pre-schism popes), or a heretic. There were no Roman Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, or Presbyterians all claiming to be equally valid. You were in, or out. One Church, one Message, delivered once, to be unbroken and to prevail against the gates of Hell, established by Christ and the Apostles, who passed down the tradition and apostolic deposit to their successors; the fist bishop of Rome, Pope St. Linus, is mentioned as Peter's successor in 2nd Timothy 4:21. Were it not for the Orthodox, there would be no set canon of Holy Scripture at all.

I wonder would Jesus get a ticket? As a Jew the Christian denominations would hardly welcome Him. I wonder will it be a Protestant heaven? The resurrection took place 3 days after the Day of Passover, which is Nisan 17th in the Biblical calendar. Surely that is the date that Yeshua or God would have a fire miracle if they truly are the Authors of it, not the man-made "Easter 'Sun'-day" which rarely falls on Nisan 17th. Who controls time, man or God? God's Passover or "Easter"?

I wish people like you never had the right to speak, if there would be no tickets, then Muslims, Jews and many denominations would enter instead of Christians who are checked by the churches, and if there were no tickets then billions of people would try to enter and it would be worst then Travis Scott’s concert

@@OrthoFireCrusader The point is Jesus (Yeshua) would not likely buy a ticket for this man-invented travesty that neither the Bible, God or Yeshua support in any part of Christian belief/doctrine.

@@nonnymoose6260 Thank you for your most gracious reply. I was writing about prejudice, not being prejudiced myself. I studied the history of the Church in relation to the Jews as a church missionary among them in Israel for over 10 years, and the sad reality is that the Hebrew race over the past 2,000 years of Church or "Christian" history has been murdered, persecuted and hounded in and out of many Christian nations often in the name of Christ and the Cross, such as during the Crusades lighting synagogues alight with Jews inside, and forced conversions of Jews in Spain before their expulsion in 1492, preceded only by England in 1290 under Edward I.
All these Christian monarchs promoted anti-Semitism within the churches preceded by the anti-Semitic vitriolic sermons & teachings by the Church Fathers such as St John Chrisostom (probably spelt wrongly) which has filtered down among church congregations over the centuries to the present day. Yes, some Jews will be welcome in a church if they either convert or want to pay a visit, but the doctrine & ecclesiastical teaching of many clergy & prelates is often filled with anti-Jewish attitudes and prejudices, even if veiled or not readily admitted to. It is still there.
Don't ask me, but ask any Jew and they will tell you how they fared better under the Muslims than under the Christians, and it hasn't gone away you know. I have digressed, so I will stop.
I apologise for offending you, I was trying to be a bit hypothetical siding onto dry wit, but I obviously failed in my objective. I must keep my conversations strictly to non-Christians in future as they are a little less easily offended. Keep what dates you like. It's not at all my business as you say. I'm going to have a churchless, dateless, Christianless week and be happier as a result.

I don't understand. What do you mean? Christ established His Church 2,000 years ago. Of course Jesus, His family, the Apostles were all Jews. Indeed, the majority of the first Christians were Jews, with Ethiopians and Armenians being the first Gentile Christians before Europeans were accepted into the church.
In terms of prejudice that's not on God, Jesus, or the church in of herself. The human side of the church, the people, sure. But that's the thing, we're all flawed sinners. Prejudice and evil at large has sadly been a part of the human condition since the fall of mankind and creation at large. We are evil, sinful, and depraved by nature. The antisemitism of a percentage of people in the church is not representative of the entirety of Christendom. Many times, anyone who has any kind of prejudice, whether it's antisemitism or any other kind of racism or hate and commit such abominable acts against their fellow man, are not true Christians.
Christians are (or should be) taught to love God and love others, including those who are different from us or hate us. We are not supposed to hate anyone, for any reason, period. If one hates someone they are a murderer.

    THE NAME JESUS CHRIST
( in Greek : Ιησούς Χριστός ://: Iesous Christos)
    Ιησούς ://: Iesous
it comes from the ancient greek verb
"Ιήσω" (Ieso) at the Attic dialect (Athenian dialect) or
"Ιάσω" (Iaso) at the Doric dialect (Spartan Dialect)
Both these two verbs means "CURE"
So, in ancient Greek language, (Attic or Doric Dialect) the name ("Ιησούς" ://: Iesous), means, "The person who brings Cure" or "The Therapist"
    { example : "Ιατρός" ://: Iatros, .... means DOCTOR }
    "Χριστός" ://: Cristos (Christ)
It comes from the ancient Greek verb...
"χρίζω" ://: (chrizo), or "κεχρισμένος" ://: (kechrismenos)
It means "The anointed" (The person who bears the anointing)
SO, "Ιησούς Χριστός" (Iesous Christos) : {Jesous Christ} means ::
The "Anointed Therapist" ( who cure souls, bodies, minds, hearts)
THE SAVIOR = ("Σωτήρ" ://: Soter) of HUMANITY AND THE WHOLE COSMOS (WORLD) WHO GIVES THERAPY TO EVERYONE and EVERYTHING.!!!
