I mean two things can be right. He’s not done much and lost a lot of his in ring work aside from his dragon Lee match but who needs in ring work when you’ve gotten reactions by being a slimy heel. Dude needs to bulk up ngl because he’s obviously gonna try to be serious. Needs to ask rhea and buddy for steroids.
I think his size was the main reason. Being so small makes him the obvious underdog who everyone wants to see overcome the odds. You naturally want to cheer for him
Yeah, he's so small it's hard to buy him wrestling a match where he isn't fighting from underneath which heels can't do because they would gain sympathy.
I could easily see him or someone his size go heel and use underhanded tactics and justify it being necessary for him to win. I mean if there's heel cruiserweights it wouldn't be that far off anyway. I know it's a game but wwe 12 had a storyline where he joined the heel wcw faction.
@@priyankichakraborty2179 No it is absolutely about size to some degree. Psychology based on appearance is huge in wrestling. A few examples being, bigger makes you a more likely Heel (Lesnar, Mark Henry) while being small like Rey makes you more likely a Face. Blonde women with bright attire leans more towards being Face, while Black hair and attire leans towards Heel. Hell even clothes affects it. Austin and Cena wore jorts not because they looked good, but because it helped make them look like the everyman. None of it is set in stone, but to say that it has nothing to do with appearance is blatantly wrong
I mean Chavo, Spyke Dudley, Eddie, Hurricane Helms, Kid Kash, Daniel Bryant, and more were about the same size and they did a good job as heels. I mostly think it was just based on his character itself and being a Lucha Libre. They mostly wrestle with honor and he build his name of living off that code. Now if Rey did turn Heel, he could have been the opposite of that, kinda like he was with Filthy Animal, except his masks stayed on.
Rey Mysterio has only turn heel in WWE video games. In SmackDown Vs Raw 2006, if you play as him in the Smackdown season mode he turns heel on Teddy Long. In SmackDown Vs Raw 2011, in his RTWM if you decide to side with Jack Swagger then Rey turns heel. In WWE 12, in the Jacob Cass RTWM, Rey Mysterio turns on him.
Best decision by Rey Mysterio to never turn HEEL. But as far as Dominik goes that was the right move for his career cause it is still working in his favor.
The Mysterio family already has the ultimate underdog babyface in Rey. They needed another Mysterio to become the biggest heel in history, and that was Dirty Dom.
Ironically did do an heel turn, but not in the WWE. In 2006 he stared in a small time horror movie called WrestleMania, where he played a wrestling serial killer. The fact most you probably didn't know that tells you how well it was received (22% on rotten tomatoes).
I believe Rey can have a decent heel run but it can only be achieved through Dominik. I also believe Dom’s face turn is being saved for Rey’s retirement regardless of any story he’s being pushed in
Jeff Hardy, and Rey are the only two superstars that people never got tired of being faces in the company. The crowd support is more successful than championships at times
Even IF he turned heel, fans would STILL cheer for him. Hes got that legendary status of being loved by the fan's rhat it wouldn't matter if he was heel or face.
Vince was many things, but he wasn't stupid when it came to Rey, he was NEVER going to let Rey go Heel. Not only does Rey as a heel not work, cause he's loved by all and not intimidating, BUT Rey was one of the biggest money makers with merch for Vince. Making him heel would plummet sales.
If Rey turned Heel, he would have had some fire ass masks. Like the one on SVR 2011, he had that red skull mask🔥🔥🔥. I could see more masks like that in different colors. A black and gold one? Omg lol. Honestly, im surprised he haven't turned Heel at least once, almost everybody did. Even Hurricane turned heel and down the line became Gregory Helms, who became an underrated Cruiserweight Champion 💯. It definitely would have been different but I understand why it never happened
I gotta say that wrestling fans really messed up at the Rumble in 2014 booing Mysterio. I get that y’all are like that, and it’s kinda all in good fun, but STILL.
They would buy in if Rey sold it but the window for that may be too late now. If it was to be done, a good opportunity would be when he got booed being the 30th entry in the Royal Rumble fans were hoping Daniel Bryan would be in. Rey could talk about not appreciating being booed for something he had nothing to do with and go from there.
I think Rey could have been a great heel. He's so small that being the cowardly heel would have worked great for his size. Plus he's super fast so he could get sneaky wins on his opponents.
That is the thing that WWE needs to realize that not everyone can be turn heel. Look at what happened when they tried to turn Stone Cold heel. That flopped and Stone Cold regrets it till this day. Then also look at the Rock, people still love and cheer for him even though he is supposed to be the bad guy. lol 😆
I'm glad you didn't turn heel at clash at the castle. I was 26 at the time, i was there and instead of anger at dom I would've cried my eyes if you were the one that turned heel

Anyone who could make a heel out of a decades-long luchador with that non-threatening voice should get a couple of Golden Globes or something, because that's a hard shit to do. I mean, Rey's by no means a midget, he's 5'6" or something, but as WWE's populated by many bigger guys, at least a couple of inches taller than Rey, you'd have a hard time convincing an audience that the smaller guy was the heel. Rey would have to ditch A LOT out of his character - the fan-friendly mask that is consistently a merch seller, the entrance music, many of his signature moves that elicit crowd pops, pandering to the Latino crowd in every city, making the 619 move a little more dastardly... it's a lot to do. There's no easy path to making a longtime fan favorite into a heel. Heck, WCW threw the yellow-and-reds, the catchphrases, the pandering, all that away from Hogan to present him as a heel. To be honest... if WWE and H will ever turn Rey heel, there's only one way to do it - a heel stable with at least one veteran who will be the main wrestler and can sell ice to Eskimos with a mic, and have Rey ditch everything that made him Rey Mysterio, mask included. It's not about convincing the sickos and hardcore fans, it's for the casuals.

Usually, if a smaller guy is a heel, he has to have bigger guys backing up his big mouth, like Shawn Michaels. When I look at Rey Mysterio, I don’t know how you would turn him heel at any time in his career. No matter what you do, it looks like a bully picking on a smaller guy. And his style was never conducive to heel work.

Closest Rey ever came to being heel was in svr 2011 road to wrestlemania
That was a funny one with Jack swagger
Man this brought back some memories lol
And Rey turned heel in WWE 12 when he joined up with Kevin Nash and tried to take over WWE until Jacob Cass stops them
