I think Yoshiki lost in terms of rhythm and technique, but he was more expressive and had more character to his sound. Its like those aesthetic of imperfection.

Two different styles, two different drummers, I think it's a draw actually. One being a jazz musician, understated, collected, cool, technical. The other, larger than life, stadium filler, legend. It's a draw, one can not truly compete against the other across the board. But hey, I'm just an old broad...

As much as I love Yoshiki, the Russian drummer is clearly the winner. Yoshiki's just doing the same stuff he's been doing for decades and he wouldn't have anything here without double bass.
Jordan Peters Yes russian is more techical, But I dont think he's here today just because of his doubles bass. New X japan songs more techinal and complex If you compare them with old stuff. His drumming got better over the years but I agree with you not so much. I think because between 1998-2007 he didnt play rock stuff or drums. Maybe he stopped practicing between those years.

He always kinda reminds me of Animal in The Muppet Show. But what really matters the most to me, is that Yoshiki is a great songwriter. Someone who can write such awesome songs as Kurenai, Week End, Rose Of Pain, Silent Jealousy or Art Of Life is definitely in my good books.
Since it's a battle there gotta be a winner. I've been a big fan of yoshiki for at least 10 years and I don't even know this other drummer. But frankly speaking, as a guitar player myself, I can tell the Russian is definitely a better drummer when it comes to live playing, improvise and rhythm. However Yoshiki's skill is enough to make perfect studio recording.

今のYOSHIKIはあまり体力はないけれども、でもこの年で叩けるってすごいよね。

YOSHIKIはリバウンドのコントロールが上手くないから強打でごまかしてるって感じ。
昔はパワーヒッターでそれを持続するスタミナもあったけど、今はそれが失われたので「ドラマー」として評価するのは難しい。
最近は「誰かドラムやって」とか冗談言うくらいですし(笑)
ドラムは打楽器なので、パワーで欧米人を凌ぐのは結構難しいです。
日本人でも全くいないってわけじゃないと思いますが、そこそこドラム歴ある人ならだいたい知ってます。
言っておきますが僕はXが好きです。
変な擁護で「Xのファンて気持ち悪い」って思われるので嫌なだけです。
Kad まさにこれ。よく言われるけど倒れる前のYOSHIKIは鬼気迫る迫力があったと個人的には思っている。でもその時でさえ技術的には高い評価をもらえてるわけじゃなかった。まぁ勢いを評価するか技術を評価するかの違いだよな。年と怪我のせいか最近のYOSHIKは勢いもなくなってきてるけど……。

ロシアの人の技術がえげつないですね、これは。xjapanの曲でもART OF LIFEやDAHLIAは難しいと言われているので技術がないわけではないですが、
ドラムのプロでもない一般人がこのドラミングを見て何を持って何を基準に勝ちとか負けとかが決まるのかが分からない( ・ε・)
ただ二人ともスゴイけど、YOSHIKIが好きだからYOSHIKIにしか目がいかない。
