  • Event begins at minute mark 15". Hosted by iD Studio Theater in the South Bronx, a sharing of art submissions and testimonials from young people around NYC, inspired by the song and video "Black is Beautiful" produced by Folklore Urbano NYC in collaboration with choreographer Daniel Fetecua.
It was a powerful hour as we listened to young artists express what "Black is Beautiful" means to them! We also had the opportunity to hear from Daniel Fetecua (choreographer of the video), Pablo Mayor (composer and artistic director of Folklore Urbano) and Anna Povich Mayor, as they shared insights into the creation and relevance of this project during this time. And, don't miss Daniel teaching the choreography! "Black is Beautiful" is the first single released from the new album of Folklore Urbano NYC Called "El Barrio Project-SALSA." The album was recorded at ID Studio, where Pablo Mayor continues his long-term collaboration as composer and producer.
We’d like to thank the participants for joining us in this discussion and creating a space to embrace this message of love and solidarity. Thank you, Daniel Fetecua, for sharing your gifts with us and creating this piece. Thank you to our close collaborator, iD Studio, and specifically Sandie Luna, for hosting the event and connecting with the richly diverse neighborhood where we have been working since 2016. Thank you to Megan Minturn for your help and support in running this event and connecting us with students at the Brooklyn International High School. We’d like to give a huge thank you to Oumou, Dahirou, Kamia, McKenzie, Isabella, Benjamin, Darilys, and Giana for responding to our call to action and sharing your art with us. This event would not have been possible without their contributions. Thank you to Tammy Rodriguez for her contributions in outreach and for sharing her own personal experience at the event. Thank you to Bleu Pablo for joining us and sharing his experiences with us. Thank you Beverly Emers of Bronx Art Space for connecting us with young artists and supporting this event! We are greatly appreciative. Please download our music, share it, and unite with us in our mission of #GlobalMusicToUnify!
