- Super Sonic in Sonic 3D is a hack of Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island made by Sik. This hack allows the player to turn into Super Sonic in that game after collecting all seven Chaos Emeralds, mimicking its prequels Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. The rules are borrowed from the latter two games, so the player must double jump to transform and also must not have a shield in that moment, besides the basic requirements (having all emeralds and 50 rings).
All of Super Sonic's behaviour is implemented: custom palette, a transformation pose with a fading palette, invincibility (with stars), speed shoes and the music changes when transformed. Rings drain while transformed as well. Super Sonic can still be killed by getting crushed by some falling platforms, however, so he isn't completely immune to death.
This hack is based off Sonic 3D: No Flickies, and as such it shares the same gameplay rules.

Yeah, but I wish the Saturn version could recieve the same treatment since while the Genesis music may outstrip the Saturn soundtrack (mostly) as well as not having unbearable loading times; the visuals, controls, and especially the Special Stages are far superior to the Genesis version. There is a fangame called Sonic 3D in 2D which takes all of 3D Blast's Levels and makes them and the gameplay like Sonic 3 & Knuckles while giving new Mini-Bosses and unlockable characters. It's not a perfect game since the physics feel a bit off and the first major boss always gives me trouble since the spike ball is huge and bounces so erratically!
There's the offical Director's Cut, a mod made by one of the lead programmers of the game and co-founder of Traveler's Tales (studio that developed this game).

The whole design of this game is outstanding. I can´t believe it´s been so many years. The game was a marvel both in playability and graphics.
Traveller's Tales sure knew how to make 3D work on 2D hardware.

Ok the graphics were on point. They looked awesome. The controls sucked though. Especially in spring stadium and ice cap zone.

Sonic games always need some Super Sonic. It just feels less complete without him. He's a reward. You get the cathartic experience of stomping through levels and challenges that used to be frustrating. That's what's awesome about him.
Two things I hate about Sonic 3D Blast: no save data backup, and no Super Sonic transformation.

I agree. The game's levels are designed with that mechanic in mind, so removing the flickies makes the game extremely easy and boring as you can just speed through the levels without any thought, missing out on a majority of the experience. What I liked about 3D Blast was the slower paced platforming and exploration. I never found the flickies to be a huge annoyance either. There are a few areas where losing them can be a pain though, like the lava pits, but if you get a fire shield, that becomes a non-issue.
Adding Supersonic to this is nice and all but doesn't really do anything special for me. I don't think removing flickies is a smart move. If anything, I would prefer a mod that keeps the flickies BUT changes the mechanic so that you can't lose flickies once you have rescued them. That would solve the issue people really have with them.
Yeah, the entire game is DESIGN AROUND THAT, plus it's not the much of a hassle.
Despite huge lack of baddies, this game was still fun...always wanted Super Sonic in 3D Blast so thanks!!
And now there's gonna be an "official" Director's Cut of the game with Super Sonic. Awesome!

I love how much Sega remix their old music. For example, the intro and Panic Puppet Act 1 is now Twinkle Cart in Sonic Adventure. Green Grove Zone is now The Air (second half of Windy Valley) in Sonic Adventure. Volcano Valley is now Final Fortress in Sonic Heroes. Diamond Dust Zone is played somewhere in Sonic Chronicles. And Mystic Cave 2 Player is now City Escape. You get the point.
Diamond Dust is Capital City in Sonic Chronicles. Unfortunately, unlike all the other examples you mentioned, that remix was shit in every conceivable way.

whenever i played sonic 3d blast as a kid i always died on volcano valley zone.
aceproductions5734 Rusty Ruin gave me trouble, but then I figured it out, got to Volcano Valley which was worse, and then Gene Gadget which was just awful. Funny fact: I was playing this on an emulator a while back and when I got to Spring Stadium, at some point somehow I ended up losing the flickies which somehow faded out of existence due to getting attacked which made me have to commit suicide

Watching this game made me think that this soundtrack is kind of underrated. I really don't like the second boss track, but the overall music package is really good.
It's amazing how much this game plays when you don't have to collect the flickies.

The biggest let down in my time as a sonic fan. I was so happy to get this game for Christmas as a kid and I actually enjoyed it for a bit. I was pretty good at the special stages so I was ready to see 3D super sonic. I spent hours playing, waiting. When the time finally came and I had the last emerald, I rushed around that balloon level for 50 rings. I jumped up and hit the double tap. Nothing. I collected 100 thinking maybe that’s what I needed. No. Nothing. I was devastated and mentally exhausted. I gave the game up for many years until I ended up playing it again to the end on the ps3 mega drive collection. Despite the lack of super sonic, I can still enjoy this game.
I'm gonna also play this myself too. But first, i need to plan to install an good Genesis emulator...🤔😅

Not to mention you're actually required to collect the flickies. You can't progress without them.

honestly, if this had been implemented from the start, I think I would have loved the game completely in spite of its flaws.

Speaking as a Sonic fan here, I didn't think the game was bad, I never liked it for collecting those god forsaken flickies, but I liked the gameplay aspect to it.

I remember how disappointed I was as a kid when I grinded to get all the emeralds, only to find out I could not become Super Sonic "What, no? Maybe I need 100 rings!..no, 200?? No, no, NOOO!"

The transparency effects on this game is very impressive, because mega drive don't have many titles with translucent and transparency effects like this game show and prove the hardware capability

Sonic doesn't know that Flickies were powering Badnicks but Tails, Knuckles, the spindash, and elemental shields are present so this has to be non-canon because Sonic should have known that Flickies powered Badnicks since the first game.

It should be noted, the director, lead developer of this game heads up a channel called GameHut, who created Sonic 3D Blast (Travelers Tales) made this and had created a Directors Cut of this game. Giving credit where it's due.

This game was the beginning of the end for Sonic the Hedgehog. I don't know why people thought this was a good idea, the gaming was just.... It shouldn't have existed. But then, no games after Sonic and Knuckles should have.
To this day it still cracks me up that there is a credit for "moral support" in this game.

Happy 30th anniversary Sonic the Hedgehog and Happy Birthday you've Been part of my childhood for a very long time helping me going through the good and bad times because I have learning difficulties and it's so annoying and stressful but your video games TV shows music and movies that's what makes me happy all the time you're my favourite video game character of all time and been your biggest fan since 1994 or 1995 the first sonic game I ever played was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 because collecting all the Chaos Emeralds and turning into super Sonic for the first time is amazing and outstanding and to have a little buddy and sidekick on his side tails is really cool my favourite 2D Sonic game of all time is Sonic Mania and my favorite 3D Sonic game of all time is Sonic Adventure and I'm very lucky to be born the same year as sonic in 1991 I've been a big sonic fan since I was 3 or 4 years old and I've got a tattoo of Sonic that I got on my birthday back in 2016 and that makes me a true Sonic fan I've got lots of Sonic merchandise and can't wait to see the new Sonic movie next year and I'll be wearing my special Sonic the Hedgehog trainers at the cinema thank you Sonic you've mean a lot to me and you're like a brother to me and I love you so much thank you SEGA and thank you to the man himself Mr Naka the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog you're the coolest Sonic creator in the world from your biggest fan of all time The True Mario & Sonic Fan Boy. 💙 😁 💙
