Awesome video, i'm glad you enjoyed your stay at both Ryokans. There are many options in the Hakone area and prices vary from Ryokan to Ryokan. We stayed at the Kinokuniya Ryokan which is pretty much mid-tier at about $ 150 - 200,- per night (per person, Ryokans charge per person instead of per room). Pretty much all of them include Onsen (private and/or public), Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Ours had both Japanese style breakfast and Western breakfast so we got to choose.

if you don't have converter or forgot, you can get extension cord from any convenience store and have the third prong of your usa plug stick out, it'll work.
Ohh but you know, I got the 500 usd experience for 60 usd in Gunma, there is this big hotel in front kusatsu, which has everything you showed, but they have season sales. I guess I got one sale, because it was so good!

First guest house probably has no dinner and breakfast. A ryokan usually includes dinner and breakfast in its rate. Second ryokan must be the price for 2 people with dinner and breakfast. The ryokan looks old and the dinner looks ok. They should charge $150 to $200 range. I assume that you didn't spend $500 but $500 had a good impact to get attention. You could stay much nicer place (room and dinner) if you spend $500. I still think that this is a good video.
I spent $500, it was high-season, everything was already booked, often an issue in Hakone. Yes, it was for 2 people, since it was the minimum booking price for that specific day. My advice, book way ahead. Plus, I wanted a rooftop outdoor onsen.

If the 500 dollars each person, if with wife or girl friend does that mean 2 sukiyaki or hotpot. The table might too small with all the heap of cooking mayerials and food.
